Loni mi moje tělo řeklo dost. Byla jsem po kurzech unavená, bez nálady, začala jsem znovu trpět na migrény, místo motivace k práci přicházela frustrace, že nemám dost času ani energie na své koně. A tak jsem se rozhodla, ze musím udělat nějakou změnu, dál to prostě takhle nešlo. Udělala jsem to, že jsem snížila počet jezdců na kurzech, abychom končili dřív a já nebyla tak KO každý den. A tak se mi jako dneska může klidně stát, že když nejedu do tramtárie, jako je Ostrava, nebo Zlín (pardon holky, jezdím k vám vážně moc ráda ❤️), tak stihnu i své koně :) Dál si potřebuji hlídat tyhle hranice, chci aby mě práce naplňovala, bavila, abych se těšila na každého dalšího jezdce i koně a ne aby mě ničila a frustrovala. Udělala jsem totéž s terapiemi, sice je méně termínů, ale zato mohu vše lépe zvládat a neodnést to zdravotně. Protoze páky, které má vyšší moc, aby nás přiměla zvolnit, nebo odpočívat pak někdy pekelně bolí. What do you think of when you think of dressage? 🤔 My first thoughts are of dancing, a partnership, synchronised & flowing movement. I believe that when I was very young, I loved to watch figure skating and I feel like somewhere along the way that brought me to dressage (ironically, ice skating terrifies me!). Conversely, these aren't the thoughts I have when I watch a lot of (not all!) competitive dressage. I'm no dancer - way too peopley for me - but whilst I know none of the technicalities, it's the flow, the seamless transitions from one movement to another, and the unspoken communication between partners that makes things look effortless that draws me to watch good dancing. Not explosive power, not rigid control. Those things just don't fit? There is a lightness and energy combined that is delightful to watch. When it's right anyway! 😂 This isn't a post to go into the whys, or to moan about competitive dressage. It's a hot enough topic right now. But what do YOU want from dressage? Hugging horses wouldn’t that be the best job ever! 🏇 As well as being a restorative exercise specialist and qualified riding coach. I’ve been a human and equine therapist for 25years. And it’s always amazed me how horses instinctively know you are trying to help them. 😍 Some even actively help you, even though they have never met you. This is really moving a few horses spring to mind there! Some are very nervous and take a while to gain trust. And it’s beautiful when they turn that corner and give you that honorary invite to truly help them. Some try to tell you something is wrong, you just get a feeling of their subtle unease. And on some occasions, turning and looking at an area. And these horses can look perfectly well, and often had multiple therapist look at them prior to me. But I find in many cases, this has drawn me to a systemic problem. A problem inside the body. Which I then refer to a veterinarian. As you can get musculoskeletal problems where the cause is coming from an organ inside the body. And then there are the comedians, cheekily up to subtle things that really make you laugh. Ive learnt so much in my time as a therapist about the very varied personalities horses have far more than I could categorise humans in. How they are always communicating with us on different levels. Riders often say to me it must be so hard working with a horse as they can’t speak. I reply, no actually it isn’t because with a horse what they present to you is a clear picture with no preconceived ideas or worries. Not that I mind when my human clients have these, but the horse and its body do speak. Here's proof the equine industry is broken... 😞 ➡️We literally teach kids to bully horses... and, you know what, I've been there too (on both accounts)! When I was at school, I used to get bullied a lot. It was tough and it's one reason I wouldn't wish to relive the school experience 🏫 Constantly the target of name calling and mean tricks, as a teenager I was able to find absolute solace at the local riding school - it was my place of calm and happiness ❤️ Now as an adult, I have a zero tolerance policy on bullying and for good reason - I know how it feels. Yet when it comes to horses, it took me a long time to realise that a lot of what we teach (and indeed, a lot of what I learnt as a teen rider) stems from an attitude of bullying. After all, who's been told if a horse doesn't respond to the leg, you should tap it with crop to back up your aid? It doesn't sound like much, but when you trade the word 'tap' and 'crop' for 'hit' and 'stick', it begins to feel a lot different. With glittery riding sticks and colourful spurs, we make bullying look pretty and almost feel attractive, even normal. However, we wouldn't treat a child in the way we treat a horse - it would be unimaginable. What if we sought to inflict discomfort and pain on children, ignoring their sentience? 😭 What if we used gadgets to make them comply, ignoring their own free will? 😱 It would be incomprehensible for us to behave in this way... and yet this is exactly how we teach children to handle their ponies. I'm not for a minute suggesting that we suddenly give up all control and have horses running amok through the countryside. However, if we approach training from a different perspective which values the horse as a thinking, feeling being, then our training processes are naturally going to change🔄 Right now our industry needs a rethink. Zirkelarbeit oder Arbeit im Round-Pen wird immer beliebter Allerdings müssen Menschen, die ihre Pferde im Round-Pen o.Ä. arbeiten wollen, bestimmte Vorkenntnisse mitbringen, um dieses Hilfsmittel – wie jedes andere Hilfsmittel auch – adäquat und ethisch korrekt zu verwenden. Im Review von Fenner et al. werden Erkenntnisse verschiedener Studien diskutiert, um Vor- und Nachteile der Zirkelarbeit herauszuarbeiten, damit Risiken vorgebeugt und Möglichkeiten genutzt werden können. Studien zeigen, dass gerade bei ungeübten Trainern sehr viel mehr Konfliktverhalten im Zusammenhang mit Freiarbeit oder Round-Pen-Techniken beim Pferd zu sehen ist, als bei geübten Trainern. ✨ Mach dir bewusst, welche Signale dein Pferd zeigt, wie es auf deine Signale reagiert. ✨ Appliziere nur so viel Druck wie nötig und lasse diesen sofort wieder los, wenn dein Pferd die gewollte Reaktion zeigt (= negative Verstärkung). ✨ Vermeide erhöhte Erregungslevel, Angst und Frustration, sowie dein Pferd (ungewollt) zu Jagen. Wusstest du, dass dein Pferd bei 20 Minuten Zirkelarbeit bereits ca. 5 km läuft? ✅ Zirkelarbeit ist sinnvoll für das Training des Bewegungsapparats. ❌ Aber bei übermäßigem Training genauso schädlich für den Bewegungsappart, das Atem- und Herz-Kreislauf-System. Round-Pen-Arbeit ist oft Mittel zur Beziehungsarbeit – das funktioniert wunderbar ✅ um Reizkontrolle und alternative Verhaltensweisen auf angstauslösende Reize zu trainieren, ✅ oder Signale zu erklären und Gehorsam zu etablieren. ❌ Allerdings NICHT, um Respekt oder Dominanz zu etablieren, ❌ oder den Menschen als Herdenmitglied oder Leittier zu etablieren. Achte v.a. darauf, dein Pferd nicht zu vermenschlichen: ❌ statt dein Pferd als stur, faul, eigensinnig oder ungehorsam zu betiteln, ✅ erkenne an, dass dein Pferd für sich sinnvolle Lösungen gefunden hat und das „unerwünschte“ Verhalten ein Resultat deines mangelnden Trainings, insb. bzgl. Today I had to say no to buying a horse that I thought was perfect, because I was going to be too heavy for her. (Don't read on if weight-talk isn't your jam) And I'm here to say that that's okay. To look at, I'm a fairly averaged sized woman. But because of my broadness and build, I'm actually 14 stone, which is quite heavy in the reality of the horse world. At peak fitness and health, I can get down to 12 stone, but anything under that makes me look ill and is unhealthy and unsustainable - and it's okay that this is my normal! But today, I had to be extremely realistic and sensible and then I cried floods of tears as I had to say no to the mare I really thought would be coming home with me. But the welfare of these animals always has to come first, no matter how much they tug at our heartstrings. I would have been too heavy for her to carry, and that would not have been fair. Stallions are so misunderstood. We label them as rowdy, dangerous creatures that fight over mares and live to cause chaos and conflict; and as a result they are often subjected to some of the worst care that we see in the equine world- long periods of isolation, limited turn out, constant teasing and prevention of most of their natural behaviours. This so often results in increased aggression and frustration, chronic stress, depression and shut downs and also physical health issues- the reason stallions are often dangerous to handle isn't because they are hormonal crazed aggressive beasts, it's actually because we take away their ability to be a horse, which has negative mental and physical consequences. Stallions are subjected to teasing to acquire semen to artificially inseminate mares. This process is unnatural for them and prevents them from acting out natural breeding behaviours which impacts their mental welfare. This is done for convenience; it allows us to breed any mare to any stallion, but also as stallions can be perceived as threatening to a prized breeding mare. So how do our artificial breeding practices compare to natural behaviour? The brilliant ethologist Lucy Rees has observed and learned all about this. The Latin king strategy sees males approaching the outskirts of the natal band to try to attract the attention of fillies who might be willing and ready to leave and come mate with them- this does risk an already established stallion coming to drive them away. The mole strategy involves keeping a low profile, integrating innocently into a band and quietly attracting a fillies attention. There is also a chance for bachelors to attain mares if a stallion dies. All of this is done in a way that attempts to minimise conflict. Conflict over mares does occur, but is limited and horses actively try to avoid it and keep things very civil- if conflict does arise they work to keep it low level. Injury or death is a very real risk of conflict and as prey animals horses try very hard to avoid this, truly aggressive behaviour is very rare. As you can tell, our ways of keeping stallions, and our assumptions about them are actually very wrong.

Deshalb funktioniert " kannst du dir mal eben den Rücken angucken " in der Realität überhaupt nicht. -Gelenkproblematiken, wie Entzündungen, die keine röntgologisch darstellbare Ursache, entstehen durch Überbelastung auf Grund von Problemen, wie Blockaden oder Verspannungen. - Sehnenschäden entstehen in den seltensten Fällen von jetzt auf gleich...so wie es häufig scheint. Es entstehen durch permanente Überbelastung Microtraumen an der Sehne, die dann in Moment besonders hoher Belastung zum vermeintlichen plötzlichen Schaden führen. Ist der zur Sehne gehörende Muskel verspannt vermindert sich die Dehnfähigkeit drastisch. Most of the ponies are cobs and have a combination of mites, mallanders and CPL so I visit every couple of months to get everyones legs clipped so the skin can be monitored and treated where necessary. Hoy os traigo un par de imágenes 🧐 explicativas para poder saber dónde se ubican algunas de las partes más importantes de la silla, y que pueden influir en el ajuste de esta en el caballo. - Los raíles aportan desde más rigidez o flexibilidad a la silla dependiendo de que material este hecha la armadura (parte interna de la silla). - La charnela es donde se enganchan las correas de los estribos (acción) y es importante que, si tiene bisagra, siempre este abierta por nuestra seguridad. También es importante que la charnela este mirando un poco hacia afuera y que sea fácil de meter la correa ya que, si mira hacia dentro, podría causar punto de presión a través del baste. - El puente, que podemos ver y tocar si levantamos el faldón, nos indica el ancho de la silla. Este tiene que ir acorde con el ancho de nuestro caballo, si no fuera de la talla correcta podría ocasionar dolor y problemas físicos, así como dolencias. - El baste es el cojín de la montura, es la parte que amortigua nuestro peso y ayuda a que la armadura o fuste (parte interna de la silla) no se clave en el caballo. Es importantísimo que los bastes tengan el tamaño acorde con el dorso del caballo y que estén suaves y blandos, pero con firmeza. No pueden están abultados o duros como piedras, recordad que es el cojín que amortigua el jinete sobre el dorso. - Los latiguillos (en este caso de doma o largos) sujetan la silla al caballo mediante una cincha, es importante su colocación en la montura, ya que si salen del puente pueden ocasionar dolores en la zona del trapecio, o incluso evitar la correcta función de la silla en caso de ser de armadura flexible. April 26th is National Help a Horse Day, and I’m in full support of that! But, did you know that there are a lot of equine charities here in the UK alone, caring for horses, ponies, mules and donkeys? I mean… well over the dozen I could name off the top of my head and I very much doubt I’m aware of them all. How has it gone to be that we need so many equine rescue and welfare charities, and that’s even before we look more broadly at overall animal charities? Another thing worth mentioning is that equine charities often work together to rescue, treat and house equines in need, as well as joining forces to bring about necessary prosecutions, new legislations and ownership bans. . I have two sponsor ponies - beautiful Taro at Cecil’s Horse Sanctuary in London, and pretty Lily at Redwings Caldecott in Norfolk. Even so, the little I do is nowhere near enough. AN UPDATE ON OUR BEAUTIFUL MARE, LAYLA… IT HAS BEEN 1 YEAR THIS MONTH SINCE SHE WAS RESCUED, AND WE ARE STILL FIGHTING FOR HER SECOND CHANCE IN LIFE 🙏🥹💕 We have no doubts that Layla is a warrior, she’s such a brave girl! This mare went through hell, literally. Her healing journey has been one of the most difficult ones, but she never gave up, and she’s winning every phase of this process, just like the PRO she is!!! We are so proud of this girl!!!! 💪 Five months after her surgery, we are all so happy to see this girl making progress with being able to walk again. She’s getting better and better with putting more weight on her leg that was operated on!!!! 🙌 Layla is permitted to walk 20 min per day, and she has to always be led around on a lead rope, never by herself. She’s not taking medication anymore, she’s just doing physiotherapy and taking supplements. They repeated her X-rays a few weeks ago, and everything is healing well. Layla was rescued in May 2023, and we have been fighting for this girl’s second chance ever since then. She still has at least another 3 months to go, but now she’s ready to come home, and we have a MUCH BETTER scenario with her healing process. 🙏 She’s going to be discharged from the hospital next week, but she will continue with her physiotherapy at home, and she will still be permitted to walk only 20 min per day on a lead rope. #doitride oder do it right? „Alteingesessene“ hier wissen, dass ich mich intensiv mit der Wirkungsweise von Zäumungen und Gebissen auseinander gesetzt habe. Unter #PhysikfürReiter kann man meine Erkenntnisse zu Wirkungsweisen nachlesen. Aber bei der Recherche ist es nicht geblieben. Ich habe auch Konsequenzen aus meinen Erkenntnissen gezogen. Ich benutze keine Kandare mit Unterlegtrense mehr - schon deshalb, weil in den allermeisten Pferdemäulern kein Platz für 2 Gebisse ist. Und das gilt insbesondere auch für meine kleinen Pferde mit kurzen Maulspalten. Außerdem: wenn man an beiden zieht, besteht immer das Risiko, dass man ein Stück Zunge zwischen 2 harten Metallstücken einquetscht. Warum sollte man das wollen (seltsame völlig überraschende blutende Maulverletzungen aus dem Leistungssport lassen grüßen. Ich reite inzwischen zu 90% Gebisslos. Den wenn nichts im Maul liegt, kann es das Maul auch nicht verletzen. Ich nutze keine Zäumungen mit Hebelwirkung mehr. Weil ich dadurch (wie vermutlich alle) systematisch die Kraft unterschätze, mit der ich auf das Pferd einwirke. Kannst du dir vorstellen, wie sich eine Versechsfachung der Kraft, die du einsetzt für das Pferd anfühlt? Ich nicht. Ich halte die Nutzung von Wassertrensen nicht für verwerflich. In manchen Fällen können sie nützlich sein. Aber ich verwende sie grundsätzlich ohne jegliches Reithalfter, denn jedes Reithalfter ist ein Sperrhalfter. Und ohne kann das Pferd einer zu groben Einwirkung wenigstens durch Maulöffnung entkommen. Dass ich aufgrund der unsinnigen Einwirkung nicht an der Trense longiere versteht sich von selbst. Und Spezialfesselungen -äh Hilfszügel aller Arten - hab ich schon vor längerer Zeit entsorgt. Und du? Bist du bereit abzurüsten im Interesse deines Pferdes? So sweet🩷 Van mij mag de lente wel komen, want brr wat is het koud! Ik had vanochtend lekker een rustig ochtendje stal, ook wel eens lekker🥰 Deze week nog even doorbikkelen en dan mag eindelijk de lente beginnen🌸🫣 met Maggie gaat het ook heel goed, ze is steeds rustiger en leert steeds beter omgaan met haar zicht. Ze heeft de afgelopen tijd van het rijden even vrij gehad, dat blijft sowieso de komende maand nog zo. Even goed tot rust komen en dan kunnen we er in de zomer weer helemaal fit voor gaan🙌🤩 we doen nu gewoon lekker dingen vanaf de grond, dat vind ze gelukkig ook heel leuk🩷 Mags bloeit ook echt op in de wei, ze is nog wel erg onderdanig naar Passa maar dat zal ook tijd nodig hebben. Vanochtend hadden ze nog even baantjes (eh sprintjes) getrokken door de wei🏊♀️🌱 want er vlogen 2 dikke helikopters over. Dat zien we niet elke dag ; was dus heeel eng😂 Ze zochten wel echt steun bij elkaar, zo lief! Felt that this was a relevant topic to talk about today after yesterday's horrific incident- Cavalry horses. Many years ago whilst visiting London, as a horse lover (and prior to my time as a positive equestrian, I was definitely less traditional and had more ethical ideas than a lot of horse people, but wouldn't refer to myself as anywhere near as science based and ethical as I am now), I toured the Cavalry museum and saw some of the cavalry horses both on and off duty, and was shocked by what I saw. These horses are regularly reffered to as being treated like royalty, after all they are literally on royal duty, but their lives reflect a reality that is far from it. They are stabled for much of their existence, their time outdoors is when they are being exercised in the Royal grounds or on the streets of London- their socialisation opportunities are somewhat limited, their chances to actually act out species specific behaviour are even more reduced. They live in boxes and get to go out to work on streets and in environments that are incredibly unnatural and stressful for them- this isn't the life of royalty, it's the complete opposite. I personally don't think the chaotic streets of London are the place for these horses, and as London's landscape continues to change and develop I think it will become less and less appropriate. Yesterday's accident was a freak accident, and horses out on hacks could sustain similar injuries, but the busy London streets amplify the danger and stress, the risk for serious incidents is also higher. These horses are reffered to as bomb proof, but are most likely chronically stressed and shut down due to their handling and the unnatural lives they live in an inappropriate environment. Being involved in rescue I have seen cavalry horses go into retirement incredibly emotionally scarred, and this all isn't fair at all to an animal who gets no choice in the matter. They might be part of London's icons, but that doesn't mean it's right or fair and ethical to continue using horses for service on the London streets. I really hope that the poor horses involved are able to recover mentally and physically from the incident.

I think sometimes people forget that horses only means of communicating with us is their body language and behavior. I often hear people wanting to punish the horse for exhibiting behavior that they deem rude or dangerous. Even things as harmless as turning their ears back. Trying to eradicate the horses communication does not remove the underlying feeling, rather they make negative feelings much much worse. And this mindset of punishing signs of negative emotions can lead to the horses no longer giving any signs but going straight into attack without warning. The healthy thing to do is acknowledge the horses communication and work on changing underlying negative emotions. 🌟 Give it up for SteinEquest trensen 🌟 Jeg har nu testet SteinEquest trensen i 4 måneder, hvilket har givet et godt indblik i hvad den kan - og jeg er imponeret! Trensen er helt speciel, fordi den frigør første nakkehvirvel fra tryk, ved at to kileformede puder i siderne hæver nakkestykket op, og det betyder rigtig meget for mange heste. Romeo har altid været udfordringer med spændinger i nakke- og kæbe, men siden jeg skiftede til SteinEquest trensen, har jeg mærket en tydelig forbedring i forhold til spændingerne i nakken. Hans udfordringer kommer til udtryk ved at han stiver sig i nakken under ridning, og dermed har svært ved at samle sig. Hans udfordringer er naturligvis ikke forsvundet fuldstændigt, men jeg har aldrig kunnet ride ham i en mere samlet tølt end nu - og jeg har altså ikke ændret min træning af ham. Please look for the following - Swelling on the horses back that could be hot and painful and not disappear between rides. - Bald spots or sores under the saddle. - White hairs/ patches and scarring. - Crusty skin or sores around the girth. - stables who put 4 half pads under the saddle and say ‘this is fine’ Please get your saddle correctly fitted to your horse. Enrichment Here at the ranch, we're lucky enough to have large grass pastures that are hilly, varied in terrain, and have natural bodies of water. This allows our horses to explore, play, and strengthen their bodies daily. In our experience, horses who are turned out in flat and bare paddocks seem to have less developed proprioception than horses who live in varied pastures, especially those containing trees, rocks, and elevation changes. Horses in these natural spaces are also well-balanced and tend to be less impressed by obstacles faced on the trail. If you do not have the land for large and varied pastures, there is still a lot you can do to improve the enrichment of your horse's environment. The idea of creating a "paddock paradise" has become popular in recent years. One major goal of the paddock paradise is to encourage movement through the implementation of a track system. If neither a large pasture nor a paddock paradise is feasible for you, giving your horse a friend (another horse, pony, donkey, mule, goat, etc.) that they can physicaly touch, will go a long way to improving your horse's welfare.
