😳 Holy Moly 😳 This is the face of every team member who has worked today!!! That was the busiest Friday for a long while! We’re so grateful for your custom everyday, but particularly this week. You have definitely kept us busy!! We have put our utmost into making sure everything went as smoothly as possible and I can’t tell you how hard everyone worked today. So a massive thanks to the team. Thank you to all you lovely lot for your kindness this week. The majority of customers have been understanding and patient. Unfortunately, some people can’t appreciate that we don’t immediately have a table ready the second they walk in the shop 🤷🏼♀️. We are incredibly lucky that we are often busy, but please appreciate that you are not the only customer at Gray’s and sometimes you may have to wait for a table to come free 😢. Remembering the past can be tricky. 13 years ago stunning news came in that we lost my big brother. He loved the white roses in his rose garden. His soul had been lost a while before that day, but his end was unexpected and severe. He struggled his whole life with depression, a learning disability and as a result a drug issue. I grew up visiting him in facilities and growing attached to his various tutors and counselors- my parents tried hard to help him. It was a major focus of the family. But for all his struggles, he was also charismatic, charming, larger than life and hilarious. He gave the best hugs and made me feel more loved than anybody else could every time I achieved something new. Part of it was both of our unspoken awareness that I was overcoming and doing things he felt were not accessible to him. He had the grace to not hate me for it - to choose to be proud. and even at a very young age that did not escape me. I love him for it. Most days I feel a mixture of anger and pity toward him. For the giant mistakes he made and messes he created within the family and in his final years those he perpetuated in society. He struggled on a level I cannot relate to. I’ve seen more friends than I’d like lose siblings since, & wish I could tell them the pain goes away. It doesn’t. It comes in waves now, rather than fully washing over me. It comes in the form of regret that my daughter will never hear his boisterous laugh that filled a room. It comes in the form of PTSD over the visuals my mind created of his murder scene, or the vivid memory of catching a glimpse of the blood stained couch he died on when looking out the window while cleaning & packing up his family house - friends had taken it out for us, but it hadn’t yet been picked up for disposal. It comes in the form of regret over numerous things, & wishing it got to be different for his 5 kids. It comes in so many forms, all painful in their own right. But now, it largely comes in anger that I’ll have to figure out how to explain so much to my daughter who I wish I could fix it for. But it was never mine to fix. Sending peace to anybody missing loved ones on the other side today. #toughday #rip

A few pics from today’s @bokabaytrail race in Montenegro. I’ve never done a trail race and this was a baptism of fire! Amazing organisation by @lukacupic88 and his team- a really well run event and incredible value. Sadly I hurt my back after mile 7 and really struggled to breathe in so shallow breathing and a long 15 mile walk back shallow breathing only meant I was nearly 10 hours on my feet 😳. This weekend's jaunt was to support no. 72, a grafter, hardworker, and all round wonder, who was running the Derwentwater Dawdle. The competitors had fantastic weather, so it was no hardship to go out on the course have had a dawdle around the lake too. Today I had to say no to buying a horse that I thought was perfect, because I was going to be too heavy for her. (Don't read on if weight-talk isn't your jam) And I'm here to say that that's okay. To look at, I'm a fairly averaged sized woman. But because of my broadness and build, I'm actually 14 stone, which is quite heavy in the reality of the horse world. At peak fitness and health, I can get down to 12 stone, but anything under that makes me look ill and is unhealthy and unsustainable - and it's okay that this is my normal! But today, I had to be extremely realistic and sensible and then I cried floods of tears as I had to say no to the mare I really thought would be coming home with me. But the welfare of these animals always has to come first, no matter how much they tug at our heartstrings. I would have been too heavy for her to carry, and that would not have been fair. What struck me was that the President had no official or political reason to come today; it was sheer compassion born of his own experience with tragedy. He not only lost his son to cancer, but also lost his wife and baby daughter to an automobile accident a month after his first election to the Senate in 1972. He met with first responders, law enforcement, and—for almost two hours—the families of the victims. No press, but for one short statement; just quiet words of shared grief, hugs, and eloquent listening. I’ve never experienced anything like it. Swipe left for a somber moment on the helicopter between Brunswick and Auburn, and then the Bidens and the Governor on their way to greet the first responders. Finally, when we lined up to make our statements, there was a little piece of tape on the pavement telling each of us where to stand. So far this beautiful day and in no particular order : last looked at my phone screen to see 04:44 when I picked it up; one cat peed on my big son’s king size quilt AGAIN; said quilt was hand washed by my other big son who hung the rather heavy item outside as no rain is expected before noon; rather heavy item is now wet hanging outside on the line because, yep, it’s now raining; one toilet appears to be blocked solid and no matter what I’ve tried so far, the water will not be released; the kettle fell off its base causing a boiling flooded small area in the kitchen; my big son has gone into hospital for what will be his final surgical operation to his eyeball; it’s St George’s Day so in London en route home from the central London hospital, festival celebrations are being set up with multiple areas taken over; my friend’s mum died a few hours ago age only 61; that’s two passing overs close to home this month; I think that’s it in a nutshell!! That’s got to be the whole rest of the month worth within the last two and a half hours surely. Please send positive energy for my big son Joseph for his operation today. His journey with all of this started first week in May last year when one retina detached. This last one is to fix the lens at the front of the eye which suffered damage through all the procedures he’s had to date.
