#Basquiat #巴斯奎特 Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Made on Market Street” at Gagosian Beverly Hills (@gagosian) Jean-Michel Basquiat, the art world star of the 80s, was mainly based in New York, but the Basquiat works we saw at Gagosian this time were all created during his stay in Los Angeles from 1982 to 1984. One of my curator friends joked, ‘Is there no other artist to hype up?’ But considering this exhibition, even though it’s a gallery show, the pieces were borrowed by Gagosian from various museums. That’s pretty thoughtful, right? Plus, Basquiat exhibitions usually charge admission elsewhere. Victoria & Albert Museum Stond eigenlijk niet op ons lijstje. Maar doordat er treinstakingen waren, moesten we ons dagje Brighton skippen en hadden we een “lege dag” Londen over. Het was heerlijk rustig en we werden positief verrast door de formaten en combinaties. Dit museum paste helemaal in het straatje van Saar. Allerlei verhalen van school herkende ze in de kunst en deze moeder kreeg gewoon les van haar dochter. LAATSTE KANS: M.K. ČIURLIONIS 🎵🎨 De tentoonstelling ‘Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis - Beyond Heaven and Earth’ is nog maar een maandje te zien. Geniet nog t/m 9 juni van het werk van deze Litouwse grootmeester in Museum Belvédère. Yup, het kan dat je nog nooit van deze kunstenaar hebt gehoord, want Museum Belvédère is het eerste museum in Nederland dat een tentoonstelling wijdt aan het werk van deze belangrijkste componist én beeldend kunstenaar van Litouwen. De rusteloze Čiurlionis stierf al op zijn 35e, gekweld door zijn eigen genialiteit en tomeloze werkdrift, juist op het moment dat hij internationaal leek door te breken. In zijn korte leven componeerde hij meer dan 300 muziekstukken en maakte hij bijna evenveel schilderijen. Duik in een wereld van mythen, sagen, sprookjes en visioenen. Want in plaats van de werkelijkheid, zoals wij die (her)kennen, geeft Čiurlionis met zijn werk een andere wereld weer. De natuur was zijn muze en hij haalde zijn inspiratie uit zowel Litouwse sagen, legenden en volksgeloven als uit niet-westerse culturen, variërend van de Oud-Egyptische, Indiase tot Aziatische.
