~ a wavy favourite ~ 🧡 Just had to post this favourite again as it speaks to me today on so many levels. Finished all of my preschool planning to the end of the school year including a new “Little People ~ Big Dreams” ART & ARTISTS unit. This museum favourite personifies how I am feeling atm. Looking forward to May 🎉and… June 🎨 Leighton was one of the most celebrated British painters of his generation. A proud traditionalist but also spirited and independent-minded, he championed time-honored ideals of beauty and refinement with dramatic flair. The artist’s style was well suited to the tastes of the British cultural elite; in 1878, when Leighton was still in his forties, he became President of the Royal Academy of Arts, Britain’s premier art institution. #flamingjune #sirfredericleighton #themet #metropolitanmuseumofart #preschoolplanning #artandartists #preschoolartists #museumnerd #museumnerds 🏛️🤓s

Not just a journey of the thread, but a journey of the eye in an endless adventure of brilliant colors and sophistcated techniques. The current exhibition "Weaving Abstraction in Ancient and Modern Art" (Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY) offers fantastic impressions. And for me it poses the question: are we living in a time in which we are longing for the archaic cradle of art and culture? Let’s read some hieroglyphs 𓊹𓌃𓏪! Today 𓏇𓇋𓈖𓇳 we are going to be looking at the word “𓏏𓅱𓏏𓀾.” The word “𓏏𓅱𓏏𓀾” is one I use frequently in my descriptions and I always get excited when I see it appear in inscriptions! The reason I get so excited is because it was one of the first words I learned how to read in hieroglyphs 𓊹𓌃𓏪 and I remember being so proud that I knew what it meant! I have provided two different examples of the word - the first one is in hieroglyphs 𓊹𓌃𓏪 while the second is in cursive hieroglyphs! Cursive hieroglyphs is the version of hieroglyphs that would appear on handwritten papyri! So what does “𓏏𓅱𓏏𓀾” mean? The word “𓏏𓅱𓏏𓀾,” which can also be commonly written as “𓏏𓅱𓏏” or less commonly “𓏏𓅱𓏏𓏛” can mean Image, Likeness, Statue, Figure, and Complete. The word has a phonetic value of “twt,” but is inferred to be pronounced like “tut.” Let’s break down the symbols! The “flat loaf of bread 𓏏” is a uniliteral phonogram used to represent the sound “t.” The “Quail Chick 𓅱” is uniliteral phonogram that is representative of the sound w/u. The “Mummy Standing 𓀾” symbol is both an ideogram and a determinative! The symbol is an ideogram for “twt - Statue and Likeness.” It is a determinative for “Mummy, Statue, Likeness, and Form.” The reason why “𓏏𓅱𓏏𓀾 or 𓏏𓅱𓏏” was one of the first word I learned how to read is because it appears in the cartouche of Tutankhamun 𓇋𓏠𓈖𓏏𓅱𓏏𓋹𓋾𓉺𓇓! Tutankhamun’s name means “Living Image of Amun.” Follow me to learn all about ancient Egypt, hieroglyphs, Egyptian mythology, art, culture and more! This is my personal photograph and original text. Nathaniel Currier, The Favorite Cat (c. 1838-1848) 31cm x 22cm This beautiful and a bit chonky cat was depicted by an American lithographer, Nathaniel Currier who joined with James Merritt Ives to found the printmaking firm of Currier and Ives. They are best known as creators of popular art prints, such as Christmas scenes, landscapes, or depictions of Victorian urban and natural sophistication. Animals, and especially cats, became subjects of their prints and decorated many American homes. Over the decades, the firm created roughly 7,500 images but as you may realize, I think today’s *The Favorite Cat* is the best one ever made. #NathanielCurrier #TheFavoriteCat #MetropolitanMuseumofArt #TheMet #MetMuseum #NewYork @metmuseum

Joos van Cleve and a collaborator - Virgin and Child. 1525. Antwerp. “Two iconographic themes are combined in this splendid painting: the joys of motherhood and the sorrowful premonition of Christ’s death. The sleeping infant is traditionally understood as a prefiguration of the dead Christ embraced by the Virgin, known as the Pietà. Contemplating her devotional reading, Mary points to her prayer book, in which two pages are legible. Taken from the Magnificat (Luke 1:54–55), celebrating the Annunciation, and the De Profundis (Psalm 130:1–2), used in the Mass for the dead, the verses foreshadow the Virgin’s rejoicing in the fulfillment of Christ’s destiny and her suffering at her son’s death.” - Description by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 📷San Francesco d'Assisi in estasi [Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford] 📷Musici [Metropolitan Museum of Art New York] . @Wadsworth Atheneum @Metropolitan Museum of Art #Caravaggio #michelangelomerisi #Michelangelo #concert #saintfrancis #sanfrancesco #concerto #musician #painter #paintoftheday #painter #artoftheday #artoninstagram #art #artist #met #metropolitan #metropolitanmuseumofart #metropolitanmuseum #wadsworthatheneum #wadsworth #hartford #newyork #museum #museums

#edgardegas #monet #sisley #impressionism #realism #dance #metropolitanmuseumofart #gerçekçilik #izlenimcilik #dans

~ water lilies ~ 🪷 Title: Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies Artist: Claude Monet (French, Paris 1840–1926 Giverny) Date: 1899 Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 36 1/2 x 29 in. (92.7 x 73.7 cm) Classification: Paintings Credit Line: H. O. Havemeyer Collection, Bequest of Mrs. H. O. Havemeyer, 1929 Accession Number: 29.100.113 On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 819 In 1893, Monet, a passionate horticulturist, purchased land with a pond near his property in Giverny, intending to build something “for the pleasure of the eye and also for motifs to paint.” The result was his water-lily garden. In 1899, he began a series of eighteen views of the wooden footbridge over the pond, completing twelve paintings, including the present one, that summer. The vertical format of the picture, unusual in this series, gives prominence to the water lilies and their reflections on the pond. 👨‍🎨🪷🪷🪷 #bridgeoverapondofwaterlilies #claudemonet #themet #metropolitanmuseumofart #museumnerd #museumnerds #preschoolthemes … 🏛🤓s … planning my next art theme
