You cannot defeat darkness by running from it, nor can you conquer your inner demons by hiding them from the world. In order to defeat the darkness, you must bring it into the light. My demons can't stop laughing, they're my friends now... When they appear, I look at them and smile, they're really funny when you understand them. I gave them all the power they had over me, I felt afraid, I thought I was weak, I didn't know myself, I wasn't aware of how powerful I am. 1. My demon of laziness used to sabotage my productivity, but today I choose action and determination. 2. My anger demon used to trigger conflict, but I found self-control and inner peace as my answer. 3. My demon of envy used to make me feel dissatisfied, but the cultivation of gratitude lit my way. 4. My lust demon used to cloud my judgment, but self-awareness and self-respect guides me to better choices. 5. This was a current pic of the Pygmy Cory tank, but then i added some buce cuttings from another tank when I had to drain it to add shelf support. It still dips towards the center of the shelf, but not nearly as bad as it was in this pic... Still struggling to set my critter room up. OCD traits and perfectionism can come in handy sometimes, but it can also hugely hinder things. I'm wanting to put everything away in the perfect spot the first time around, but I can't quite figure out what that might be, so I freeze and get nowhere. It's frustrating on so many levels! The mess is bothering me, as is having things all a jumble. I stand there and look at things trying to figure out mentally how to set it up, but I get stuck on that step. The plants are etiolating without their added lighting, the reptiles need to be hand-misted after moving piles out of the way, and nothing is fun to look at right now... "During my high school years, i was one proud person who had oc traits. Like every other individual having oc traits, i too had severe anxiety while i was forced to control my obsessions. While taking notes from class, i was reluctant to correct any of the mistakes by putting a cross mark on it. Even a small correction in any of those pages made me so irritated and anxious. To reduce those irritations, I used to tear the whole page. Because of this act, eventually 200 pages of notebooks will turn to 100 or 80 pages. One day, one of my friends decided to help me with this. Whenever I start to tear pages, she held my hand. The first time, i had one hundred percent of anxiety. But, as time went on, i realised that my anxiety was gradually going away. And that was just a start, she used to do this for a while. As time went on, i stopped having anxiety while correcting the words. As a psychology trainee, right now I'm aware that my friend used response prevention therapy (ERP) without knowing." Exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) considered the first line of psychotherapy for OCD (Hezel & Simpson, 2019). ERP therapy has been found effective for 80% of people with OCD (Foa, 2010), making it one of the most effective mental health treatments available. ERP therapy aims to gradually reduce the anxieties associated with OCD and interrupt the problematic obsession-compulsion cycle. ERP therapy is not about eliminating your distress but rather about learning how to accept and manage it without neutralizing it. Anger Management On the other day one of my friend was yelling at someone. She was very angry. I was there and I tried to cool her down. Later I realised that she was trying hard to manage anger. Do you know how to manage anger? There are number of things that you can do to manage anger effectively. First you should try to identify the triggers. For example, it may be traffic jams, critical comments, tiredness etc. By understanding the triggers, you can plan effectively to manage anger. One way to manage anger is to remove yourself from that particular situation if it is possible. For example, you may leave a meeting and take a break. A time out can help you to calm down your brain and body. Talking to a friend, physical activity might calm you from anger.
