Mental health is an issue that has been gaining more and more attention and that is for the better! I would love to teach and help my viewers understand that difficulties about certain disorders. OCD is one of the more “popular” disorders that have been gaining more attention because of how it has been perceived on the internet. Everyone thinks that OCD is more like “oh if i misplace my pen i get super anxious” but really it’s more like “if i don’t count the amount of steps I take my whole day will be ruined” #phycologyfacts #phycology #ocd #mentalhealth #ocdawareness #learningaboutphycology #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness

It’s rare for me to be truly proud of something I’ve done, but this is one of those times. Writing this was a release, of grief, self-hatred and anxiety. I also realised how often I was writing “I felt weak and lightheaded” and finally realised that’s not ok! Tomorrow is your last chance to support the campaign. Link below. You all know someone with an eating disorder, whether you realise it or not. This book will give you an insight into their thoughts and feelings… TW: food restriction, starvation, disordered thoughts https://www.pozible.com/profile/hannah-brockway This book is primarily intended for carers, friends, clinicians, anyone wondering if they are autistic and anyone struggling with internalised homophobia. "Having OCD is like being allergic to life. Every walking moment is spent in a state of mental hypersensitivity" With severe OCD, every second of every day is spent with a feeling of alert at the back of your brain; it's kinda like an itch. But when you scratch that itch, it only gets worse. What makes it so debilitating is the constant mental pain you feel. Imagine feeling like you have to replay rape, murder, pedophilic, and incestual scenes in your head. Due to the shame, you can't tell anyone about them, even therapists. The fear of rejection or dismissal regarding your OCD is what prevents so many people from getting the help they need. Not to mention the social stigma surrounding it. Imagine having obsessions which are so stressful that you have mental breakdowns where you become suicidal. You may not even be depressed. You may just feel like suicide is the only way to end the constant, never-ending mental pain you feel. It feels like your OCD will never go away. You are a slave to your obsessions and must act out your compulsions. It seems like everytime you heal one aspect of your OCD, it morphs into another one that's even harder to control. You see nothing to look forward to in the future besides your OCD. These feelings of hopelessness, guilt, and shame are enough to make people want to end their lives. *Words taken from internet. I have OCD, but I don't like talking about it. #ocd #mentalhealthawareness #ptsd #ocdawareness #mentalillness #adhd #bipolar #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #ocdrecovery #recovery #bpd #therapy #intrusivethoughts #ocdproblems #cbt #anxietyawareness #socialanxiety #schizophrenia #pureocd #suicideprevention #endthestigma #harmocd #anxietyrelief #depressionawareness #chronicillness #ocdlife #exposureresponseprevention #mentalhealthsupport

As I sit on the plane flying back from Dr. Jenike's memorial, I am truly blown away. While I felt like I got to know him in some ways through @ethwriter who was so close with him... I truly regret not getting to spend more time with him. I knew he saved Ethan's life, and hearing from so many "greats" in the OCD field that they are doing what they are doing BECAUSE of Dr. Jenike was only one of the many profound aspects of today. In actuality, the biggest thing I learned is that he believed with his entire heart that every single person is worthy and deserving of getting better...and that there was hope for every person. He went to great extremes to live this out - simultaneously treating every single person with respect while reminding all of us to "not give a shit about what others say and think about you." THIS is the optimism, confidence, and balance I want in my life...and honestly, this is the inspiration I need in life and advocacy at this very moment. Spending time reflecting on Dr. Jenike with so many amazing humans furthered my belief that EVERYONE can have a beautiful life...regardless of what OCD has says (even me and you!). It reminded me that I can carry that optimism and hope through evidence-based treatment ...following my values in my work regardless of what anyone says or thinks. Dr. Jenike continues to impact every single person passionate about OCD advocacy and treatment - and as I step forward, I hope to ask myself, "What would Jenike do?" when it comes to supporting others, living fully, laughing authentically, and unapologetically making a difference in the world. ❤️ . . . #ocdadvokatie #ocdadvocate #ocdadvocacy #ocdawareness #ocdtreatment #ocdhelp #ocdhope #ocdhero #mikejenike #youarenotalone #thereishope #stickwiththeick #runningtowardsmyvalues

This is an intense post and is an exposure just sharing it with the world. But if your OCD says that same things that mine does, YOU’RE NOT ALONE. WE ARE NOT OUR OCD. THOUGHTS ARE JUST THOUGHTS. INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS ARE EGO DYSTONIC. (Not in line with our values or beliefs) THATS WHY THEY ARE INTRUSIVE. Okay, done yelling to simply say; this is hard and scary AND you can do it. You can recover from OCD. (Also, for the record, I have values in my faith, as well as for the LGBTQ+ community. My SO-OCD is not connected to that, just FYI. ☺️) . . . #OCDawareness #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #OCDwarrior #MindfulLiving #OCDrecoveryjourney #OCDsupport #HopeForOCD #CopingWithOCD #OCDcommunity #OCDandJesus #OCDjourney #HealingTogether #EndOCDstigma #OCDfighter #InspirationForRecovery #OCDstrength #OCDaware #RecoveryIsPossible #OCDhope #BreakingOCDchains #OCDinspiration #BreakingOCDchains #OCDwarriorjourney #LivingWithOCD #OvercomingOCD #OCDvictory #FaithInOCDrecovery #faithandresilience #OCDacceptance

The Other Mind Trailer, a film based on my life struggle with OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)⁣ ⁣ My story: I was working on a Netflix show when I suddenly developed severe OCD. My condition was so bad, one of the producer’s told me I had a few months to “figure-it-out”or they would fire me. After being misdiagnosed by every doctor, I had no clue what was wrong with me. I hope and thought my Hollywood dreams were over. After careful research, and the right doctor, I realized I had Obsessive-compulsive disorder. OCD is a condition that is extremely misunderstood. In fact, even the industry I love hasn’t done the best job of portraying it correctly. So it was important to me, to make a film that showed what living with this hellish-nightmare is truly like. Creating this film gave me the hope I needed to get my life back. I was able to return to my Netflix job and find a way to work on my dream show - HBO’s “Euphoria” With that said, I’d like to thank the entire Euphoria post production team for all their support and understanding.⁣ ⁣ The Other Mind is based on my real life struggle with Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD is a chronic disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (“obsessions”) and/or behaviors (“compulsions”) that they feel the urge to repeat over and over.” It’s my hope the this film can provide even an ounce of hope for anyone with this condition.⁣ ⁣ Director andycruz_film Starring jamalljohnson__ Staring alexisbsantiago Staring iamsharongardner Cinematographer shawfisher. Unveiling Mental Compulsions in OCD: Checking 🧠✅ Mental checking involves repeatedly searching for reassurance or evidence related to one’s OCD obsessions, with the belief that doing so will provide certainty to achieve relief. Have you ever felt fine and then an obsession seemed to come out of nowhere? Or you woke up feeling good and then OCD attempted to pop up? Or you were simply enjoying your recovery and then an obsession crept in? Though it may seem like OCD sometimes comes out of nowhere, feeling good or bored or relaxed can even be a trigger for OCD to doubt ‘But what if I have _______ obsession again?’ (FYI this is a classic example of thought-thought fusion! Scroll back through my posts to learn more about this). All of a sudden a moment of enjoyment or relaxation has turned to compulsion where you might be ruminating on OCD or checking for thoughts or testing your recovery. Have you ever experienced this OCD sequence? It can be quiet stressful and confusing because one second you felt fine and the next second you felt OCD came out of nowhere, yet OCD was still following it’s usual (faulty) reasoning process. #ocd #ocdlife #ocdhelp #ocdrelief #ocdrecovery #ocdproblems #ocdtips #ocdadvocate #ocdawareness #ocdsupport #ocdtherapy #ocdclean #livingwithocd #erp #exposureresponseprevention #erptherapy #exposuretherapy #intrusivethoughts #pureocd #pocd #harmocd #rocd #realocd #uncertainty #thoughtsarejustthoughts #scrupulosityocd #religiousocd #ocdisnotanadjective #ocdawarenessweek #icbt

I can't imagine how hard it is for someone to witness the distress caused by OCD to someone they love with all their heart. It breaks my heart any time I think about what my husband saw me go through as well as trying not to lose his own shit! All he wanted to do was make things easier for me, to give me a break, to let me get some rest but unfortunately that led to compulsion enabling. I know that this was his only option at the time though and I think anyone would have done the same if they saw the amount of distress I was in all the time apart from when I managed to get a few hours sleep. We didn't know enough about OCD and how it takes a hold of the brain or that no matter who did the compulsion it still had the same results of being even more stuck. We both had a lot to learn in that he needed to say no to my OCD and I needed to understand that was helpful to me in the long term. I needed to be ok with him saying no when I was desperate to learn that I can tolerate discomfort and that these compulsions don't have value. We had to work as a team and not let OCD come between us, i had to be aware of when OCD was trying to drag him in and recognise that no matter who does the compulsion, it's still a compulsion feeding the OCD. Doing exposures with enabled compulsions meant I had to be strong in not asking him for one more spray on my body or to turn the taps off for me and he had to be strong in walking away when he saw me starting to get upset because he knew it was OCD wanting more, not me. It wasn't smooth sailing by any measure there were times when I asked for more and he gave them to me and it took a long time to remove these compulsions completely and my fire for this was that I hated that OCD had dragged I'm in this warped world of mine. Nothing with OCD is ever smooth, it's important to have patience with loved ones and it works both ways. If you have OCD you need to understand that it's hard for those looking in and if you love someone who has OCD you need to understand that it's not their fault and they can't just stop and it will take time. Sending love to all the support systems in this community - you rock!

Do you relate to any of these? If so, you may have a cognitive style called inflated responsibility. This is the belief that if there is a potential for harm, it is your responsibility to prevent it ✋🏼 Inflated responsibility distorts kindness and turns it into an obligation to prevent harm at any cost 🛑 Instead of assuming responsibility for preventing all possible harm, try to remind yourself of some more balanced thoughts ⤵️ “I am only responsible for the things under my control.” “Even despite my best efforts, I may hurt some people or fail to prevent harm.” “Part of being a human interacting with others means that I may cause harm. I’m willing to take that risk.” Interested in learning more? One thing you have to know is OCD loves to play tricks on us! When using I-CBT, we learn that there are several common ways OCD does this. Here are 3 common tricks: 1. Mismatching: Taking information from something else (out of context) and matching it to your circumstance. For example: I know of someone whose daughter got cancer, so my daughter could get cancer. 2. Giving you facts out of context: OCD loves to give us facts to try to make the doubt more believable, even if they have nothing to do with your current reality. The facts may be true, just not applicable to your situation. For example: People do experience psychosis, so I may experience psychosis now. 3. OCD tries to make you believe that you need to go beyond your senses (including common sense) to try to figure out your doubt having you question your senses. Example: I looked at the door to see if it was locked, but what if I saw incorrectly? I should go look at it again to make sure. #CBTTools #MindfulMotherhood #EmpowerMoms #anxiety #anxietyrelief #OCDawareness #OCDrecovery #OCDisnotanadjective #NJTherapist #TherapyforAnxiety #OCDtherapy #NJTherapy #OCDNJ #Intrusivethoughts #unwantedthoughts #christiantherapist #christiantherapy #christianOCD #postpartumanxiety #postpartumjourney #postpartumhealth #ICBT

2012: Proudly graduating while 38 weeks pregnant. 🤰🏼I didn’t know I had OCD at this time. I do remember being very worried I was going to go into labor during the graduation ceremony. Something would go wrong, something would happen to the baby because we couldn’t get out of the building/crowd in time etc. I googled things like “student goes into labor at graduation ceremony” etc. I made lots of jokes about it but I know now that a lot of it was masked reassurance seeking. I even joked with my seatmates around me. I learned one of them was an EMT as they joked back with me. That gave my OCD the reassurance it was looking for. What do you know? I made it through the ceremony without having a baby. Sometimes I feel a bit sad as I remember these really happy moments where I was a mixed bag of excitement, joy, anxiety, and fear. I was so happy but also so scared inside. I wish that I knew what I know now. But…I didn’t! So, I try to look forward to the future moments I’ll have like this where I won’t be filled with such fear anymore. Okay, hear me out! Try thinking of each of your fears as a singular balloon. 🎈 All of your balloons are up in the sky, and there may be hundreds of them. 🎈🎈🎈 The reality is, treatment isn't about going around and individually dealing with each and every single independent balloon. Actually, they exist in "bunches" or bouquets of balloons and are bound by "core fears". When you do exposures to core fears, eg fear of being alone forever, fear of being miserable forever, fear of hurting someone else and feeling responsible/guilty forever - then you will see the OCD end its game of whack a mole. OCD feels like whack a mole, going from theme to theme because we are often not tackling or leaning into the core fear(s) enough. When we start to lean into the core fear underneath those superficial subtypes, then we get to the core of the issue and see that the OCD no longer bounces (as much) from theme to theme. Have you heard of or done core fear work before? What are some core fears you think you struggle with? Leave 'em below in the comments! #ocdawareness #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthquotes #mentalhealth #pureo

Nature! Nature is a great helper i mist say, too often we forget it, that we are nature, this is where we come from, our natural self in between trees grass, sunlight, leaves, fresh air, rain, water, but here we are, immersed in social media than being immersed in natural sense of the surrounding, hence I have always tried to give the significant understanding of how nature really plays a crucial role in our wellbeing cause trust me it does. OCD wants you to think it is indispensable and necessary to protect you from the threat of danger. But the truth is that OCD IS the real danger. OCD is the real threat from which you need to protect yourself. OCD is what actually threatens your mental, emotional and sometimes physical well-being, while it traps you in a cycle of obsessions and compulsions that diminish your quality of life. It is a lie that OCD is helping you to prevent disasters or catastrophes. Rather, OCD is stealing your joy and making you miserable. You don’t need OCD. You need true, long-lasting relief, and a full life. The good news is that Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP/ERP) therapy can give you the relief for which you long. ExRP empowers you to protect yourself from the threatening lies of OCD! ______ Here at OCD Set Free, our goal is in our name! Through Exposure and Response Prevention, we’ve seen our clients find freedom from OCD in ways they never thought possible. If you’ve never worked with an OCD specialist, this could be the missing piece in your journey to OCD recovery. #ocd #ocdtherapy #pureo #erp #ocdsupport #ocdtherapist #exposureresponseprevention #ocdcommunity #ocdawareness #ocdeducation #selfcompassion #ocdhelp #ocdrecovery #ocdtreatment #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #anxiety #exposuretherapy #exposureactivity #exposureandresponseprevention #pureobsessions #ocdjourney #uncertainty #acceptance #cbt #acceptanceandcommittmenttherapy

Theo is struggling again with new OCD themes which are determined to ruin his day, embarrass him, destroy the things he loves and prevent him from doing things he enjoys by tormenting him as much as it can. Just when you think one OCD theme is under control, another one pops up. But this is the nature of this illness and the reality of living life with OCD. (If only OCD was just about enjoying cleaning and organising your shelves🙄) At the moment Theo is suffering with incessant intrusive thoughts which make him perform harmful physical and verbal compulsions. They are relentless and Theo is back in a place of feeling unable to resist a compulsion , despite them causing him huge problems daily and causing him physical injuries. As Theo approaches his discharge from hospital and a brand new transition in his life, I am again feeling so anxious about his future and how Theo will continue to live with and recover from this awful illness. I can only hope that he has the right support in place to help him after he comes out of hospital. I wish I could say life with OCD gets easier but the reality is that this is something my son will be stuck with for the rest of his life and something which he will have to find the way to live with. And knowing that as a parent is so difficult and terrifying every single day. Nothing about life with OCD is fun, neat or organised. The reality of this disorder is anything but. It was a truly an honor to present the Keynote Address at @NAMIWisconsin’s 2024 Annual Conference this weekend! 💙 This presentation was such a profound, transformative, & cathartic experience for me. I’m so wildly humbled by how much the @NAMIWisconsin community embraced me fully with such open arms. I’m so immensely grateful for every single human who held space for my story & found common humanity with me. This is what life (& spaces like @namiwisconsin) is all about. The timing of this keynote could NOT have been more surreal or serendipitous for me. 2 days prior, I turned 28 — an age I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I’d live to, let alone living a life that remotely resembles the life I live now. And 1 day prior marked the 5 year anniversary of my cancer diagnosis — the culmination of all of my rock bottoms… & also, in many ways, the catalyst for beginning true, evidence-based recovery for my mental illnesses. How much has changed in the last 5 years is… incomprehensible — what a reminder of how powerful time is & why everyone deserves to hold onto hope, no matter how hopeless everything feels. I’m incredibly grateful to @NAMIWisconsin for inviting me to share my whole story, in its fullest form, with their conference! Thank you for holding the space for me to share the complexity of my multiple co-occurring diagnoses & shed light on the many factors that exacerbated my mental illnesses (cultural barriers, lack of access to treatment, financial barriers, etc.). Most importantly, thank you for holding such safe space for me to share the most painful parts of my story & shedding light on the darkness of our collective unwarranted shame. ☀️ I’m especially thankful for @NAMIWisconsin actively creating the space to bring awareness to & advocate for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) with my keynote, & amplifying the International OCD Foundation @IOCDF & @OCDWisconsin. Thank you for helping us raise awareness for this exceptionally misunderstood, misrepresented, misdiagnosed, & stigmatized disorder — together, we can end the stigma, raise awareness, minimize the devastation OCD wreaks, & SAVE LIVES! 🧠💙 WOW. Thank you thank you thank you. 🥹🙏🏾

I have been aviophobic for as long as I can remember. When people ask me why I am afraid of flying, I always tell them about the “trifecta”: I can grow claustrophobic. I am not in control. I simply cannot “get off” if I felt the need to. I am afraid of heights. Literally every ingredient to a typical flight experience. However, as a history teacher and culture buff, as well as wanting to build experiences with my wife, I want to see the world. I want to travel, and be exposed to cultures, religions, history, you name it. Skip to the last two weeks. For the last ten days, my wife and I were on our European honeymoon! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience, and we had the time of our lives. We returned this Saturday, after we flew home from Rome. As someone who is aviophobic, it’s all I could think of leading up to leaving. I knew it was going to be at least 17 hours total of flying. I refused to let this damp the whole trip. I wanted to attempt to tackle this phobia and not let it tackle me, as it has for so many people in my life. I am so happy to say that for the first time, I was able to eat/drink on the plane, as well as watch several movies for each long-haul flight. I did not do it myself, though. These three things truly helped: Support system. Talk to your loved ones about your fear. Knowing my wife wanted to support me and make my experience more enjoyable, it helped me the whole time. Dial-A-Pilot: a service where you can literally talk to a commercial airline pilot about all things flying. I spoke to Kyle for about 30 minutes, and he answered my questions about take-off, that dreaded sinking feeling after take-off, the “unknown ding sounds” when taking off, and turbulence. It is a god send. Every flight, I have their advice in my head. @dialapilot Medicine: Yeap. Don’t be afraid to help yourself in order to have an enjoyable flight experience and to put your health first. Talk to your general practitioner about what medicine would be right for you for your flight. I am proud to say I took advantage of this, and my heart was not beating out of my chest for hours at a time as a result. Super proud of myself!

People currently struggling with an ED will probably be triggered by the content of this book, as it is an honest account of my journey, which involved a lot of disordered behaviours and thoughts. #anorexìanervosarecovery #anorexiafighter #cavoodle #cavoodlesofinstagram #anorexianervosa #anorexianervosaawarenessness #arfid #bodydysmorphia

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. It involves putting oneself in someone else's shoes and experiencing their emotions and perspective. Empathy allows individuals to connect with others on a deeper level and respond with compassion and understanding. It is an essential aspect of emotional intelligence and plays a crucial role in building and maintaining healthy relationships. Empathy involves active listening, observing non-verbal cues, and showing genuine concern for others. It helps to create a sense of belonging, foster trust, and promote cooperation and mutual support. ❤❤❤ #empathy #empathyquotes #empathymatters #mentalcompulsions #ocdtherapy #ocdisreal #religiousocd #ocdtherapist #ocdrecovery #justrightocd #harmocd #ocdhelp #pocd #ocd #ocdawareness #perinatalocd

Mainstream media will have you thinking of #neurodivergence as this cool trend you can hop on in little doses. When I hear people say, "I have a little OCD/ADHD/anxiety/dyslexia", I die inside a little. Because the lived realities of neurodivergent individuals is rather difficult. Not in the way The Good Doctor depicts it. Real people who aren't high fuctioning #struggle to remember to eat, struggle to read verbal cues, are often misunderstood and accused of being cold or snobby, struggle to shower, struggle to be in social gatherings, struggle to engage with learning material that isn't visual or broken down clearly and concisely. From #childhood, we exist in a world that calls us weird and different. The adults in our lives labeled us as poor eaters, slow, careless, and forgetful. We encountered the #shame of existing in a world where neurotypical thinking and functioning is celebrated and rewarded at home, in school, and in the workplace. Being neurodivergent has it's perks, but it's also a terribly lonely journey. #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealth #adhdawareness #adhd #anxietyawareness #anxiety #ocd #ocdawareness #autismawareness #autism

If OCD has ever made you question your morals, you’re not alone. It has a very clever way of tricking you into thinking that every thought means something about your person. 💙
