#Psalm16:11 Born in 1939, Junko Tabei, of Japan, was a rather sickly child. When she was ten, a class trip to Japan’s beautiful volcanic Mount Nasu introduced her to mountain climbing, though family finances made pursuing the hobby impossible. Tabei joined a climbing club while at university. Though she loved the adventure and the sport, many men refused to climb with her. So, a few years after graduation, in 1969, she formed Japan’s first Ladies’ Climbing Club. Tabei and her team decided to tackle Mt. Everest. To do so, they needed sponsors. Often, when she went about raising funds, she was told women should be raising children instead. Still, she persisted until she had enough to mount an expedition. She hired experienced Sherpa guides to lead the way. When an avalanche struck, Tabei’s Sherpa guide was able to dig her out and save her life. The expedition continued and on May 16, 1975, Tabei became the first woman to summit Mt. Everest. Tabei continued climbing. In addition to Everest, she became the first woman to successfully climb all “Seven Summits” — the highest mountains on each continent. Every mountain climber knows that knowledgeable guides are essential if one is to be successful. “You will show me the path of life,” the Psalmist says. No matter what mountain you tackle today, be confident that God will lead the way. Reflection: What mountains do I need to climb? How will I know what path to follow? Prayer!!! This season of life has me wrestling with a lot of different decisions. Decisions that pertain to priorities, childbirth, and commitments, to name a few. To be honest, sometimes it becomes a bit overwhelming and a little lonely, and I’m growing more and more familiar with the ever dreaded decision fatigue. But with each step forward, I hear God whisper the truth that sometimes there’s no such thing as the “right” decision. Sometimes, there’s simply choosing a path and trusting that no matter what, God will be with me, faithfully providing what I need along the way. This truth has brought me a lot of peace and freedom to move and decide, not from a place of fear, but from a place of love and trust. ”I always let the Lord guide me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my whole being rejoices; my body also rests securely. How are you feeling today? I'm sad. Something I love is missing but, God willing, it will return. It's scary and freeing to admit that the future is a closed book to me and everyone except God. Psalm 16: What are your thoughts? I love this psalm now. I don't think I noticed it much before. But now I know by experience how much I need God, as a refuge, an inheritance, a counsellor. Now I've seen that without him I have no good thing. "My body also will rest secure" v9 So often my body has confused and shaken me when it over-responded to grief and anxiety. I love that God teaches it to rest and be secure in him. God has no obligation to do any of this, except that he is good and loving and compassionate.
