Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder! has unveiled the complete casting for its West End premiere, which takes place in May. The murder-mystery musical comedy is penned by Matthew Floyd Jones and Jon Brittain and co-directed by Brittain and Fabian Aloise (who also serves as choreographer for the production). It follows two true crime podcasters who find themselves in the midst of an actual whodunnit, when their favourite author is killed. Bronté Barbé and Rebekah Hinds are set to reprise their respective roles as Kathy and Stella, alongside Imelda Warren-Green who will once again play Erica+ (which presumably means Erica and others). Joining the three are Elliot Broadfoot as Justin+, Hannah-Jane Fox as Felicia, Elliotte Williams-N’Dure as DI Sue Shaw+ and Ben Redfern as David Slatter+. Aladdin’s humble origins are in his mother’s house. She spins for a living. Despite its modesty there is still beauty in their abode: look at the latticework on the floor above and in the tiles on the floor below. Those are special tiles - they are directly lifted from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis tiles from Deckard’s house in Blade Runner. How Aladdin sourced them is a mystery. The children playing in the sunlight beyond kick up feathers and leaves when they kick their ball. It has been annouced that Jamie Muscato is set to star as Billy Bigelow in a one-night-only concert staging of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel this July. Muscato will be joined on stage by Christine Allado (Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, The Prince of Egypt) as Julie Jordan and Rebecca Caine (Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera) as Nettie Fowler. Additional casting will be announced shortly. The production will be directed by Emma Butler (Side Show in Concert) with musical direction by Adam Hoskins (Once: in Concert). Carousel originally premiered on Broadway in 1945. One of the first gigs I ever produced was in this building where I was given the theatre, the names of some comedians and told to get on with it. Last week, a friend sent me this from London, knowing I love the theatre, and I saw it with fresh eyes. For the first time, I realised how monumental it is that I have produced comedy in London’s West End. It’s one of the most frightening and ambitious things I have ever had to do, and seeing the photo out of context let me rewrite the past in a more positive light. Suffs, which celebrated its Broadway opening on April 18, will release an original Broadway cast recording through Atlantic Records. ⭐ JAMIE MUSCATO, CHRISTINE ALLADO & REBECCA CAINE ANNOUNCED FOR CONCERT PRODUCTION OF RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN’S CAROUSEL ⭐ Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CAROUSEL is coming to the Royal Festival Hall for a one-night-only concert this July, it has been announced. CAROUSEL will star Jamie Muscato (Moulin Rouge, Heathers, Les Miserables) as bad-boy carousel barker Billy Bigelow. Joining him will be Christine Allado (Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, Prince of Egypt, Hamilton) as Julie Jordan and Rebecca Caine as Nettie Fowler (original Cosette in the premiere of Les Misérables, original Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, Canada) together with a star-studded cast of West End royalty, an ensemble company and a full orchestra. The concert will be directed by Emma Butler (Side Show in Concert) with musical direction by Adam Hoskins (Once in Concert). Full cast and creatives to be announced at a later date. This timeless, classic musical is an extraordinary celebration of hope, redemption and the power of love. Chosen as Time Magazine’s ‘Best Musical of the 20th Century’, CAROUSEL’s much-loved score includes some of the most powerful music ever written for the stage; ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, ‘Mister Snow’ and ‘If I Loved You’. CAROUSEL has music by Richard Rodgers, with book & lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. We had a lovely evening last Friday, at a charity dinner to raise funds for the Dame Vera Lynn Memorial. Giles Brandreth was the MC for the night. Dame Vera Lynn's daughter was there, and the sculptor, Paul Day. Colin Thackeray, the Chelsea Pensioner who won Britain's got Talent, sang for us, & various friends of Dame Vera talked about their memories. We heard that her proudest achievement was her involvement with the Burma Star, having travelled out to Burma when the War in Europe was over. Dad's eldest brother, Uncle Harold, was a member of the Burma Star Association, & he was immensely proud of this too. I grew up listening to him talking about it, but didn't realise the enormity of what it was about at the time.
