Finally healthy enough to start chemotherapy after having surgery on 10/21 to remove my appendix. During the procedure, they found the cancer and removed 73 cm of my colon that day as well. So I woke up to the news of stage 4 colon cancer when I only planned to have my appendix out that day. 😮 That was five weeks ago though. Now we starting the victory lap. I wanna share this subject matter because, well life for everyone is hard. It’s hard being broke, it might be even harder to be rich, but to me the hardest thing to date for me is overcoming addiction. Addicted to being addicted. Tramily seems to have a different definition out here on this trail. On the AT you were usually surrounded by them all the time, just an arms (or trekking pole) reach away for the most part. The close family like bond formed over countless hours and miles of hiking and being together 24/7. Simply an amazing gift to all of us who get to experience it. But it’s a bit different out here on the this trail. Tramily seems to be a broader term. They might be right next to you every night, you might not see them for weeks, maybe you’ll see them in town, and if your real lucky you’ll catch them on trail after not hiking together for 700 miles. They might be the closest friends you’ve ever had the pleasure of making, they might be a drinking buddy you swap “war” stories with at the bar, they might be the shoulder you cry on on mountain passes when your physically and emotionally exhausted. They might be the big smile and loving hug that squeezes you back together after a hard few days (fun fact Basecamps hugs are literally the 8th world wonder). Their the people that help you process the beauty your immersed in. Their the people that help make this trail even more beautiful. I thought originally the pct wouldn’t have that atmosphere because of the logistics and the vastness; but I was wrong. And I am so happy, and thankful for that.
