Oshiwara begins to flow from Aarey, and Mithi makes an appearance passing through here on its own trajectory as well. Earlier in this year, 3 leopard cubs were found in the colony near where both the rivers are attached (and there has been effort to locate their parent since). Such Human-Panthera symbiosis is not anything out of the ordinary, and neither is the sheer magnitude of biodiversity present in these 1,800 acres is recent in any manner. Even as this ecosystem is entirely localized within a metropolitan (which is also the financial capital of the country) suburb. These entries were captured with @__musaafiir__. Aarey houses approximately 86 butterfly, 77 bird, 46 reptile, 34 wild flower, and 13 amphibian species. Three arachnid species thought to be extinct were even rediscovered here, after over 100 years each. Notably, it is among the only spots in the world where co-existence between human beings and leopards is possible. Archeologists have found both royal (Shilahara Dynasty) and religious artifacts at Aarey in the last couple of decades. Even so, most notably, it was discovered that Prajpur used to be a trading hub back in 200 BC (in the Classical Era around the time of the Satavahana, Shunga, and Kushan Empires). There are 27 tribal padas spread through the forest (Including aforementioned Prajpur, where residents have voiced concern over relocation for the Metro shed, and Ketli, where there is a similar response to the Force One training camp), most of which have existed since even piror to the creation of the iconic milk colony (built by 1951). Furthermore, Aarey houses many other structures inter alia, a boat club, a butterfly garden, a film city, a hospital, and even government organisations. The #adivasis of these hamlets had recently agitated against the impending destruction of their villages which is expected to result from the construction of the upcoming #GoregaonMulundLinkRoad project on their land, for which they were not even consulted. (See our recent video post on the issue) Strangely, the bmc didn't mention that they had 'solved' it even in their last meeting with the adivasi protesters. In this meeting, they interacted as if the matter was still disputed. The BMC are also still not putting out a map of the supposedly realigned road, and not even sharing it with the media. So.. Do you think BMC has actually changed the alignment of such a large project within only 7 days (!)
