IL SAMBUCO: la pianta di Frau Holda. di Mascia herbana "Attorno ai calderoni bollenti, ci sono i vecchi sambuchi. I vecchi sambuchi cantano cantano la Vita, la Morte, tutta la razza degli uomini" (Il sambuco delle tre Dee - Elfland Nel regno di Tinuvel) Premetto che nello scrivere riguardo al Sambuco, sono un po' di parte, dato che è una pianta che amo follemente, in tutte le sue forme. Il sambuco (Sambucus nigra) appartiene alla famiglia delle, tradizionalmente definita Caprifogliaceae, è un arbusto o un piccolo albero che può raggiungere anche gli 8-10 m, è molto comune in tutta Italia lungo le siepi campestri, nei luoghi ruderali e nei fossi, dalla pianura fino a circa 1400 m. I rami giovani sono verdi e quelli degli anni precedenti hanno la corteccia bruno cenere, la parte centrale è costituita da un midollo spugnoso, le foglie sono opposte a 2 a 2 e composte da 3-7 foglioline ellittiche dal margine dentellato. I fiori ermafroditi sono riuniti in ampi corimbi con il diametro da 10 a 20 cm, posti al termine dei rami e sono di colore bianco-avorio e gradevolmente profumati, il frutto è una drupe nera lucente contenente 2- 3 semi. I fiori si raccolgono tra aprile giugno, mentre i frutti in agosto-settembre quando giungono a piena maturazione. Il nome "Sambucus" fu usato da Plinio il Vecchio per indicare questo genere di piante e deriva dal termine greco "sambýke" uno strumento musicale fabbricato con i fusti e i rami di sambuco svuotati dal midollo, alcuni autori lo fanno derivare dal persiano "sabka" sempre il nome di uno strumento musicale, forse un'arpa o un flauto, mentre "nigra" indica il colore delle bacche quando giungono a maturazione. Era conosciuto fin da tempo immemorabile, infatti sono state rinvenute tracce di bacche di sambuco, che probabilmente erano fatte fermentare ottenendo una bevanda leggermente alcolica,in insediamenti risalenti al Neolitico il suo utilizzo a scopo medicinale è altrettanto antico. Il filosofo e botanico greco Teofrasto (371 a. C.- 287 a.C.)lo usava per la preparazione dell'Akté, una bevanda che accendeva il desiderio o al contrario favoriva il riposo e come Ippocrate apprezzava il sambuco per le proprietà lassative,

Last year i was kindly given this Sambucus nigra Guincho purple by @young__gardener . It took a while to settle in to its new climate, and for a while was rather pale. But it’s clearly very tough as all the new shoots are the proper Victoria plumb colour. As you can see, it was ready for a larger home and so is now in a three litre pot. i want it to be a decent size before planting out, although knowing how much elders can grow, that may be by autumn this year. Habe heute mal einen kleinen Spaziergang gemacht. Mach das gern um diese Jahreszeit, da entdeckt man jeden Tag was Neues. Neue Blümchen, die das triste graubraun des Winters vertreiben. Heute war ich aber total fasziniert, denn zuerst entdeckte die Nase etwas, bevor die Augen es fanden. Ein unglaublich süßer, starker Duft. So schön🥰 Und da stand er dann: ein Duft-Schneeball. Ein sogenannter Winterblüher. Das ist nun die Mission dieses Jahr. Einen solchen Busch noch irgendwo im Garten unterbringen. So klasse, wenn nicht nur die Augen Anreize haben😊 Man kann sich quasi in den Frühling schnüffeln 🥰 Einfach schön. Optisch schick und olfaktorisch ein echtes Highlight. Viburnum tinus. A local delightful and fragrant plant! The term «local» doesn’t mean that it grows only in Morocco! In fact it’s growing area goes from North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya), the Middle East (Israel, Lebanon, Turkey), Southern Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Greece). Also found in the Azores and the Canary Islands. I’m always looking for local plants, I mean that are native to our geographical spaces (plants don’t have our territorial borders, right?) and that would mean a territory going from the south of Spain to Algeria and to the Saharan borders. Plants are attached to particular biotopes essentially delimited by climatic factors. Example: Atlas cedar is local (endemic to Morocco) but would never grow in Marrakech or Casablanca because it needs more cold in winter and less heat in summer.
