I am sharing this old battered, creased, worn book and is along with my old lord of the rings books has been my most often read. It is older than all my children, been my longest relationship and has been with me through some awful times but also happier times, it's never left me and is always with me. Is human nature good or evil? Are we born with those helping and hurting genes or do we change ourselves as time goes by. The good ole nature vs nurture question. Well, this was just the bowl to boil the story in. The recipe is much more interesting. We have a witch who brought in all the ingredients, witchfinders burned the fire (literally), an angel dropped the sweetness, a demon something sour*, and humans- they did what humans do best- mixing it all up!! Armageddon is coming. It’s been too long and heaven and hell need to have a war - A War to end it all. It is upon the AntiChrist to begin the War to end it all. And it is upon an angel and demon to make sure the AntiChrist does it. But the AntiChrist is an 11 year old boy and the Angel and Demon have started to love humanity because of their stay on Earth for the last 6000 years. What follows is an unusual plot weaved with dry humor, witty puns and interesting footnotes**. I was smiling and snorting at many points, and at times I’m sure the British humor of the authors went above my head. I thoroughly enjoyed the satirical twist they gave to the biblical stories which I have been listening to since childhood. The first half of the book was a bit slow for me and confusing at points, but as the story progressed the authors gave me the closure I needed. The kind of book I would go back to understand the missed humor, and comments which are meant to be re-read. Gaiman and Pratchett and their sarcastic humor, gives us a book with a plot that widens our imagination, taking nuances from the set beliefs and ideologies. A hell lot (heaven lot?) of biblical humor, preparing us for the Armageddon with cute hellhounds and cool bikers and the real son of Satan. *though he accidentally gave us some sweets and believe me when a demon gives us sweets, you take them. **which I am trying in this review (Maybe I shouldn’t have!!).
Booo... as much as I used to love Autumn in California, because it meant a sharp decrease in the insufferable heat, and amazing Halloween themed adventures, I don't get the same, " Wow!" feeling for Fall in the UK. It means more damp and cold, and only a few bits of Halloween, so this is a sad time as I admit it's finally time to swap over to more leggings and cold weather clothing. I also switched my @blackphoenixalchemylab perfumes over to the spicy and sweet scents I prefer when it's cold outside. Yes, I wear perfume to seasons, sweet, lots of fruity, light florals, strawberry, cotton candy and Bubblegum scents in Spring and Summer and dark resins, gingers, incense and cakey smells in Fall. So if this picture let you smell, it would be a gingery, cedar smell, with a hint of dry cinnamon bark. Named for Agnus Nutter the author of the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnus Nutter 😁😂😁 But any way now I smell like fall, I am getting out the clothes for Autumn, and have to finally admit, this weird ass Summer is officially at a close. The only other book to tv adaption I sort of like is Bones but that’s only inspired by the book and doesn’t follow the exact story line. Would you join a readalong/group read? Not for this book, in general. I watched it. I loved it. I read it. I'm gonna watch it again. #grimdragon "doomed! you're all doomed!" This book is about Armageddon, so geddon with it! Note: I recommend watching the show before reading the book, there were some good changes made between the two, some of the humor is quite old fashioned and dare-I-say uncomfortable. #bookreadhappyhour author you discovered because of #bookstagram At this point, so many of the books I know of have gained meaning to me from bookstagram. I'd probably have seen them, maybe eventually picked them up, but bookstagram gave me context and examples of fans who love them. I'm not gonna tag Ekho again 🖤 but they were the one who made me consciously aware of Terry Pratchett and actually pick up a book by him. Very grateful and looking forward to reading more by him. I'm thinking about doing a readalong of The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle in a few weeks, in October. Would anyone be interested? I've read it before, but the humor is like Pratchett and Gaiman, and it's timely in terms of it's ecological themes, also unicorns are awesome.
