These are pictures taken at Teresita Fernandez’s exhibition, ‘Soil Horizon,’ on opening night at Lehmann Maupin last Wednesday. Similar to previous works, these pieces of art are excellently crafted and expand the idea of landscape to the underground, creating cross-sections in an anthropological and spiritual time-space journey. Notably, the exhibition also features a poetic 16mm black-and-white film co-directed with Juan Carlos Alom @juancarlosalom titled Cuajaní, which is highly recommended. The film, captured over six years in the Cuajaní community in Viñales Valley, Pinar del Río, depicts a dramatic prehistoric setting of mogotes surrounded by alluvial plains in a region left out of time due to political and geographical reasons. The film connects Fernandez’s sophisticated, impeccable—and, for those same reasons, in some measure, aseptic— conceptual work with the tangible reality of the Cuban countryside. It showcases the ready-made land art of daily life in the region, which is full of energy and lyricism. The exhibition includes many significant works, such as the beautiful and meaningful ‘Sky(Burial),’ a wall installation of over seven thousand ceramic cubes, like pixels or fragments, expelled by a centripetal force; the ceramic mosaic ‘Caribbean Cosmos (Earth)’; and the monumental cast concrete sculpture ‘Sunrise (Sunset).’ #teresitafernandez #lehmannmaupin #soilhorizon #womanartist #openingnight #juancarlosallom #cubanamericanartist #americanartist

¢K is an ONLY ¢HILD, wasnt a lonely child. it's interesting because people always tell me "swear I thought you had siblings" & curiously, not judgemental/only slightly self aware, I ask "how come?" they tend to say things like my social skills, ability to share conversation & not hog, my gentle but firm assertiveness. the last monolithic pic is a playful reminder of perception & the duality of projection. I'm reminded of all the love & nurturing I received as a child(despite no siblings) that allowed me the confidence to operate within respect of others.
