Sooooo about that well behaved dog… What is a well behaved dog to you? One that heels the whole walk? One that comes when told to? One that completely ignores their environment and responds to their owner immediately?! Yeah I’d have looked at those things too and thought “wow, why doesn’t my dog act like him?” 🐶 what would you think if I told you not every trainers dog is happy and their needs often are unmet (not always!! But sometimes). ❤️‍🩹 Having a dog who has been corrected enough so they stop showing behaviour isn’t a well behaved dog, that boy is struggling. Without a way to communicate they simply shut down and no ‘reward’ after this is going to make it better, because the fear of punishment is looming over their head. Until that tool or method is taken away, your dog will suppress these emotions and learn how to avoid punishment. Now not all trainers think this way, but a lot do so looking at a trainers dog doesn’t necessarily mean they focus on the dogs mental wellbeing during training sessions. Dog owners that focus on behaviour are the bees knees 🐝 ensuring a dogs mental wellbeing is in check during training sessions is a necessity for the relationship and trust built between yourself and your dog. These dogs don’t always appear to be the ‘well behaved’ type. If your dog trainer can explain WHY their dog isn’t the most ‘well trained’ dog, that is so much more valuable to your training journey than any dog that blindly obeys their owner. They’re working on this as a team, and they definitely can show you how to work with your dog to gain results through trust. #dogtraining #dogtrainersofig #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainingadvice #aversivefree #aversivefreetraining

Active Disengagement. Something you don't want your dog to do when you work with him. But can be seen in many aversive handled dogs as they know the punishment comes from the handler. Ever saw a movie with a person that is being threatened? The way they look to the side once the abuser approaches? It's the same. This behavior is often paired with other stress signs as: lip licking / lifted paw / whale eyes / pinned ears / stress yawn / cowering #aversivefree #balanceddogtraining #prongcollar #stress #awareness #dogtraining #dogbodylanguage #dogtrainingtips #cutedogs #k9training

Well my feed seems to be flooded with e-collars and prongs…it’s pretty disturbing! Asking people to comment “zap me” on a post to register interest in an e-collar course?! We live in a society of instant gratification and quick fixes which is steamrolling its way through to our dogs training and behaviour. There are zero benefits to using these collars…they cause emotional and physical harm. Training without them isn’t a “cheese tossing or fairy dust” approach. Learning the skills to work with a dog to find emotional equilibrium and reinforce the behaviours you would like to see takes time, patience, a huge amount of self reflection and development of your own mindset and emotional regulation “how can YOU develiver the information better for the dog to learn” No quick fixes. Dogs are always doing their best with the information YOU are providing. No dog should be subjected to wearing these collars or receive training from people who ever advocate their use. 🤍🐾 #ditchtheprong #ecollarawareness #prongiswrong #trainwithoutpain #gsd #malinois #gsdmalinoislove #ecollarban #dogtraining #dogbehaviour #aversivefree #advocateforchange #ecollarfreedom #noprongneeded #ethicaldogtraining #banthecollar #noprongnoshocknochoke

Heartly guards things that are valuable to her. Her food bowl and water bowl and any bones or toys with food in them. She also sometimes guards locations like a bed she is sleeping on. In addressing any resource guarding case the first critical step is to prevent the dog from feeling like they need to resource guard by managing their environment. This means, for example, feeding them in a place where no one will approach their bowl and giving them space to eat or giving them high value toys in a similar set up where they can enjoy them in peace. Once their environment is set up in a way where they can avoid the stress of thinking their things might be taken away (no matter how unfounded that might be, guarding often doesn’t not seem rational from our perspectives, but it’s not our perspective that matters right now.) then we can start to address the issue itself by gradually teaching the dog that our approach means only good things for them. We teach them the game with items that they don’t guard and progress to ones that they do, demonstrating that our approach means a great bonus and does not result in loss of the item. Here you can see Heartly’s expectant and hopeful look that the approach of her person means good things for her! Bingo. It may look impressive for a dog to perform behaviors out of fear to the untrained eye, however those that can see what is really going on know the dog is scared, shut down or avoiding. It is not necessary to train dogs using pain, fear or intimidation tactics. We know that dogs learn the best when they feel safe and are rewarded with things that they value. I want my dogs and those that I work with to trust me. I don't want them to be scared to make a mistake. I want them to have agency. I want them to act like joyful dogs, not shut down and full of fear! Train without pain! Dogs have feelings too! #trainwithoutpain #dogshavefeelingstoo #positivereinforcementdogtraining #aversivefree #trainwithlove #humanedogtraining #moderndogtraining #evidencebaseddogtraining

Also zur TÄ. ✨

Let's talk about aversive methods, which include tools like E-collars, prong collars, verbal intimidation, and more. 🚫 At AllCompanion Pet Care we firmly believe in treating our furry family members with the kindness and respect they deserve. Aversive methods, proven to be unnecessary and outdated, perpetuate speciesism and can cause harm by inducing fear and stress. We are challenging the human-centric approach to caring for other species. 🌍 We recognize that we are all animals, and it is time to let go of ego, force, and control when caring for others — human or beyond. 💖 Our companions are sentient beings, not objects to be manipulated. They deserve compassion, patience, and respect for their autonomy. 🤝 Opt for positive reinforcement, choose trainers and vets who prioritize fear-free methods, and embrace force-free pet services. 📚 Educate yourself on modern, positive training techniques to create a loving and stress-free environment for your pets. Share the importance of compassionate handling with fellow pet guardians to build a culture of respect and care. 🙏 Let's collectively make the choice to uplift, nurture, and celebrate our companions in the most loving way possible. #AversiveFree #CompassionatePetCare #RespectForAllBeings #AnimalRights #DogTraining #ForceFree #FearFree #CooperativeCare

Hundefamilie! 🐕 #positivedogtraining #bedürfnisorientiert #bedürfnisorientierteshundetraining #straffreieshundetraining #rplus #happydog #aversivefree #aversivestrainingkannweg #rplusdogs #dog #doglife #happylife #hunde #hundeglück #hundeleben #hundeverstehen #glücklichehunde #doglife #dogsofinstagram #dogtraining #trainingstipps #hundetrainingstipps #hundetraining #hundeerziehung #hundetraininghamburg #hundetrainer #hundetrainerin #dogtrainersofig #dogtrainierdog #hundemomente #hundeliebe #hunde #hundeleben

This hike will always hold a special memory for us. Our dog, who has struggled with fear aggression, not only walked through 30 screaming kids, but checked in throughout the chaos, didn’t bark, lunge or cower while 60 flailing hands reached to pet him. To say we are proud is an understatement!! He entirely surpassed my expectations. Adam and I were extremely overwhelmed by the amount of noise & disarray, yet our dogs held it together. If you’re looking for a sign to commit to your dog(s) this is it. We made it here with positive reinforcement & science-based methods!! I’m overjoyed to have succeeded without the use of aversive tools. It’s something I strived for. Asher is a very sensitive guy, with extreme ways of showing it. This was a very difficult behaviour to wrap my head around, but I’m so glad I took the leap, stayed consistent & put in YEARS of hard work. We made it, Bubbies!! 🥹💛 The gratitude is immense. #granddogsof2024 #dogtraining #successstory #dogtrainersofinstagram #positivevibes #aversivefree #hikingdogsofinstagram #moutainviews #gratitude

This post isn’t to debate the use of e-collars, as force free trainers we’ve made our stance very clear! We know you can work with high prey drive, aggressive, reactive, high drive, high energy dogs without the use of e-collars. The information is out there, it’s no secret. This post is about the false sense of security they can bring. No one is saying these aversives aren’t effective (to a point) but they are not INFALLIBLE. No matter what your trainer has told you. I used to live in America in a suburb where garden fences weren’t allowed to be put up. A lot of people used invisible fences (a buried wire that marks out a perimeter, sending a shock to a paired collar the dog wears if they cross it) I once saw a bunch of deer run through the gardens, and a dog chased the deer. Still yelped from the shock as he breached his perimeter, but kept chasing the deer. When a neighbour found the dog and brought him back, the dog then got punished by the invisible fence for walking back into his garden. My point is, there can always be that one time where chasing the squirrel is just worth the punishment! I see videos of people walking with their dogs on their e-collar but off lead through fields of livestock, or walking next to busy road, or a reactive dog through dogs and people. I’m not sure if it’s to show off or try and prove it works. But if your main point is that you’re saving a dogs life by using an e-collar, why are you putting them in a dangerous position? E-collars, electric fences, shock collars, vibration collars can all fail. It’s very naïve to think otherwise. #ecollarfreedom #ecollardogtraining #prongcollars #prongcollartraining #slipleadtraining #slipleads #slipcollar #chokechain #aversivefree #baddogtrainer #southenddogtraining #toxicmasculinitykills #dogbites #dangerousdogs #dogtraininguk #dogtraininggonewrong #noegoincluded #reactivedogsuk #dogaggressionrehab #cookiepusher #treatgivernotpackleader #dominanceandsubmission #forcefreetrainer #invisiblefencebystaydog #positivereinforcementworks

We were approached by @tlcdogacademy to be added to a list of resources for XL Bully guardians. This is a fantastic idea and we are only too happy to help. We want to support XL bully owners as much as possible as these changes come into place. All XL bully owners will need to be ready to have their dogs comfortable with muzzles and being a "perfect" dog when in public! They will face so much scrutiny and will be judged so unfairly. Remember, yelling at your dog or shouting "no" tells them very little. Techniques involving shouting at your dog are often ineffective in modifying behaviour, or if they do work, they can lead to fear and aggression. Whether or not your dog actually thinks you are both barking together, yelling at them is never a good idea. -- #Accessibility - ID: A yellow Labrador barking. Training should look boring. How many times have you seen a video on social media with an extreme before and after? This is how a certain VERY popular social media trainer has such a following, the dog is lunging and barking and then boom… the trainer takes over and the barking has stopped. But do you really think they’ve changed how the dog FEELS or have they just, punished the barking? The next time you see one of these videos, pay close attention to the dogs body language. Have a look what tools the trainer is using, is the dog suddenly wearing a slip lead, check cord, prong collar or e-collar? If so, steer clear! Find a trainer who will treat the cause, not just the symptom. #knowledgeispower📚💪 #ecollarfreedom #ecollardogtraining #prongcollars #prongcollartraining #slipleadtraining #slipleads #slipcollar #chokechain #aversivefree #baddogtrainer #southenddogtraining #toxicmasculinitykills #dogbites #dangerousdogs #dogtraininguk #dogtraininggonewrong #noegoincluded #reactivedogsuk #dogaggressionrehab #cookiepusher #treatgivernotpackleader #snackleadernotpackleader #treatthecausenotthesymptom #forcefreeaf #forcefreedogtrainermemes #dogtrainingtools #dogtrainingtipsandadvice #dogtrainingthoughts #dogtrainingonline

TRAINING TIP: Be patient. If your dog doesn't immediately respond after you ask them to do something, count to 5 before asking again. Often we are impatient handlers, wanting our dogs to do something right away, and when they don’t, we repeat ourselves over and over until they eventually do the Thing. There are a few reasons why this isn’t a helpful approach: 1) It put’s pressure on the pup and saps the fun out of training. 2) You can ruin your cue. Sit becomes SitSitSit and you have to say it every time to get a response. 3) Sometimes - especially with puppies and adolescent dogs - there is a lot going on and our dogs just need some time to think. If you are patient, you can almost see the cogs turning in your dog’s brain. They’ll have an “ah ha!” moment and succeed - all the needed was a little time to think. Don’t hassle your dog, give them the time to work it out and they may surprise you! If you’ve given them some time, perhaps there was a lot going on when you asked. Wait and try again when they seem a bit more focused on you. #spanielsofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #petsofinstagram #dogstagram #gundog #doggo #dogtraining #positivereinforcement #obediencetraining #clickertraining #forcefree #fearfree #aversivefree #forcefreetraining #trainwithoutpain #canineenrichment #enrichmentfordogs #dogenrichment #trainyourdog #jerseydog

No need to worry! At Dixie Tricks you won’t find us using any ‘aversives’ 👍 What does that mean? Put simply - no prong collars, shock collars, hitting dogs, shaking bottles of stones at them or anything else that ‘works’ by making your dog scared, anxious or in pain. To maintain our listing on https://my.mtr.cool/rfhojvhadl we must continue to train using the ethos we were taught and that is positive and force free - and to be honest that isn’t hard as it’s exactly what we believe in! If you’ve read that and are thinking ‘oh no, I can’t train like that, I’ve always used ‘xyz’ then don’t panic - just let us know where you are now and we can help get you started on a path to a stronger, more positive relationship with your dog 👍 #forcefree #forcefreetraining #forcefreedogtrainer #aversive #aversivefree #dixietricksdogtraining #hartwell #northants #nn7 #progressnotperfection #dogtrainingtips

❌ Steer clear of trainers who try to tell you that certain breeds need a heavy hand. It's simply BS. ♥️ All breeds can be trained successfully using positive reinforcement. ❌ Shock, choke, and prong collars are not humane tools. Neither are slip leads. 🐾 Scientific studies have proven that aversive techniques increase fear, anxiety and aggression. They promote learned helplessness and are not effective at eliminating problem behaviors. They damage your relationship with your dog and impair their ability to learn. 🐾 Dogs trained with humane methods have a low rate of behavior concerns, compared to those trained with aversive methods, according to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. 😢 Humane trainers are called in to clean up the mess left by aversive or balanced trainers ALL THE TIME. 📢 It is time to call them out on their techniques. They are abusive and ineffective. Dogs and their people deserve much better! 👍🏼 Please share to promote humane dog training. #nodogneedsaheavyhand #aversivefree #humanedogtraining #moderndogtraining #positivereinforcement #positivereinforcementdogtraining #positivereinforcementtraining #ethology #positivereinforcementtrainer #positivereinforcementworks #trainwithkindness #bekindtoanimals #workingbreeds #nonsportingdogs #banshockcollars #banprongcollars #banchokecollars #stophurtingdogs

The importance of not getting upset at your dog 😕 . As humans, we are a very temperamental species. We have a certain way of living, doing things, being perceived, and a lot of times, this can negatively impact the things around us, like our dogs. If we have a certain perception of how a dog should behave, for example, if the dog “acts out”, our first response is to punish them. . This is something that’s been really hard for me to manage. Growing up, I was punished a lot and so it made sense; you do something wrong = you get punished. It’s even how our society works. And because I was cognitively aware of what I did wrong, the punishments made sense. However, dogs do not understand why they’re being punished. They cannot comprehend this, whether it’s because of the language barrier or the timing, who knows. We, as humans, are extremely slow incomparison to dogs so our punishments/corrections are never timed well. We may think that the dog ate from the plate so we yelled and this means they know to not eat from the plate. What really happened was the dog was eating happily (a high value) and the owner came and yelled. Now dog is scared of owner because owner is unpredictable. So dog will either eat in secret, or defend himself the next time it happens. This is normally how RG toward humans occurs (a fallout from punishment). . I have a couple of examples but the caption would be so long. The point is that punishment dealt by a human rarely works on a dog. It results in them being fearful of you, losing engagement, shutting down or trying other things to appease you but they’re not listening to you, or becoming aggressive (handler reactivity). Just think, the next time you want to punish your dog, ask yourself: Will my dog understand the reason for punishment? Will it confuse them further? Will they get scared of me? Am I, as a human, smart enough to find an alternative way to teach my dog what they did is wrong without resorting to corrections? . I challenge you to spend a day mute with your dog and without physically touching your dog (no collar corrections either) to see what alternatives you come up with to deal with these problems! . 🙋‍♀️ Ask any questions about these 5 things in the comments and I’ll answer. 🐾 Age appropriate socialization basically means socializing puppies in a safe way before they are fully vaccinated. 🐾 Socialization doesn’t just mean dog-dog. It’s means different sounds, new locations, new surfaces, other animals, strangers, and body handling. ❌ And socialization does not mean housemates and litter mates! That is a common mistake people make. 🐾 The critical socialization period is between 3-12 weeks old in puppies. This is why breeders must start this process and you must socialize before fully vaccinated. The critical period is considered over by 16 weeks, some believe it ends sooner! 🐾 Leading behavior and veterinary experts recommend starting after the first vaccine. However, you wouldn’t bring your puppy who isn’t fully vaccinated to a public park where it isn’t clean, and you don’t know if other dogs there are vaccinated. That’s risky! ✅ But you can carry your puppy. Or you can go to a friend’s house who has a fully vaccinated dog. Or join a professional puppy class that requires proof of the first or second vaccine. 🐾 Be safe, but definitely don’t wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated before you start exposing them to life outside the home. I see soooo many dogs develop behavior issues due to lack of early socialization. These issues are slow to improve and are preventable. ♥️ Reach out for help. We allow very young puppies to attend our classes in their guardians arms. This is safe exposure until they’ve received our required vaccines. #undersocialized #puppysocialization #letdogsbedogs #dogbehavior #dogbehaviour #dogadvice #responsiblebreeders #saynotopuppymills #saynotopuppydealers #saynotopuppyfarms #aversivefree #dominancetheoryisdead #banshockcollars #banprongcollars #banchokechains

Being an aversive is different to functioning aversive. This stems from “Harnesses are aversive, my dog prefers their prong to a harness” Harnesses are not designed to function as an aversive. Car finds coats aversive, but these do not function to punish her. Both of these protect her physical well-being. A prong is designed to apply an aversive correction. It functions as such. I don’t use them because of that function. This is solely my perspective.

Need to muzzle train your dog? Step 1, order French Fries. Step 2, eat the French Fries. Step 3, let your dog eat the last bits of French Fries from the bottom. Are you Team Crispy or Team Soft when it comes to French Fries? Seriously, help your dog become comfortable putting their muzzle inside of various containers before introducing a basket muzzle. #muzzletraining #frenchfries #k9training #fluency #goals #dogtraining #aversivefree

Since our trip away last weekend we’ve been working on Marley’s boundary training and calmness with visitors. We had 2 wins today, the first was that Marley stayed on his boundary in the garden while I cut back the wisteria. This time last year he was chewing on the branches which isn’t ideal. Our second win was when @hannmoggridge came for a visit, he was excited but didn’t jump up and took himself to his bed and waited for his treat Nice work Marley! 🐾🐶❤️ #dogtraining #boundarytraining #aversivefree #calmdog #calmnessisking #marley #marleyandme #dogoftheday #dogsofinstagram

Did you know the dog training industry is completely unregulated? 🤮 Which means people are constantly misrepresenting themselves. Yes, even those daycares and sleep away camps you send your dog off to. You need to do your homework when you hire a trainer. I’ve had soooo many clients come to me after working with “dog trainers” that had no credentials to back up that title. Not only did they not see the success they were looking for but some were more unlucky, and their dog is now in a worse spot than before they started training. 🫠 Always ask about schooling background and previous experience. Ask about referrals. Read their reviews. Ask your veterinarian who they are referring out to. It’s important to be transparent and ask these questions for the sake of your dog. Simple mistakes can cost you time, money, and your dogs mental and physical well-being.

Intentional walking! My client with her dog, Jasper, who has improved with more connection to her, checking in much more frequently, honing "leave-it", and with the support of chiropractic appointments, his body is moving more fluently and with less discomfort. See how she confidently walks her dog, rather than facilitating her dog walking her! That's intention, purpose, and confidence which this dog likes, and consequently listens to his handler more and over his environment, which then means fewer or no reactivity on their adventures. They are out practicing twice a day, so they're getting really good. No force here, just communication and pay for work done. #intentionalwalking #walkingyourdog #aversivefree #positiverenforcementtraining #confidence #chiropracticmedicine #enjoyyourwalks #Boxer #dogscommunicate #kindleadership #caringforyourdog

CHOOSING A CHEW Looking for a suitable, safe chew for your dog? Ask yourself these questions before you settle: • If you dig your thumbnail into the item, does it give slightly? If no, it’s too hard. •Does the item have easily removable parts, like eyes, tags, buttons? If yes, pass it by. •Is it rawhide? Does your chewer like to rip off large chunks and swallow? Pass it by •Is it “edible” plastic or rubber? Choose something of organic origin. •Could your pup get their jaw stuck in the item? Pass it by •Is it possible for your pup to swallow it whole? Pass it by. *Tennis balls have an abrasive coating and will damage your dog’s teeth WHAT CAN I GIVE MY DOG? A wide selection of treats of animal origin such as: •Pig Ears •Rabbit Ears •Dried Lung •Chicken Feet Durable rubber toys such as: •Kong •West Paw products Other toys: •Dog-Safe soft toys •Rubber balls with air flow - large enough that your dog cannot swallow REMEMBER… Supervise your dog when they have a toy 🐾🖤 . #dogsofinstagram #petsofinstagram #dogstagram #gundog #doggo #dogtraining #positivereinforcement #obediencetraining #clickertraining #forcefree #fearfree #aversivefree #forcefreetraining #trainwithoutpain #canineenrichment #enrichmentfordogs #dogenrichment #trainyourdog #jerseydog #cooperativecare

Reactive behaviour both on or off lead is an expression of our dogs underlying emotions Reactions can include: lunging forwards on the lead, growling, barking, snarling, growling, spinning, grabbing the lead, stalking, jumping up at the person holding the lead, barking at fences, gates or in the car The underlying emotions that trigger the reaction stem from: fear, anxiety, frustration, over excitement, and occasionally predation. Reactivity does not usually include outright aggression but some dogs can become so over aroused that they will nip. These problems develop over a period of time and have various underlying causes too detailed to go into here. Punishment and lead corrections ( terming your dog, yelling at it, using a punishing collar such as a choke, a rope slip noose or a prong collar) will usually make the problem worse because punishment does not address the underlying emotion. To change behaviour over the long term we need to address and work on the underlying emotion that triggers the reactivity. Is it fear and anxiety? We work on building confidence Is it frustration? We work on teaching impulse control and alternative behaviours Is it territorial ? We work on redirection and management skills We specialise in helping guardians of reactive dogs - if you need help please do get in touch. Dog training shouldn’t be scary or painful, especially for your dog. #dogs #dogs #dog #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #dogstagram #dogtrainer #dogtraıner #aversivefree #positivereinforcement #positivetrainer #positivetraining It can be terrifying for us, thinking we will never be good enough. If we are involved in sport, there are often additional pressures, and we may feel like we are unable to fulfil our own dog’s potential. Pain, fear, and stress are not emotions conducive to learning. These emotions can be impacted by using aversive methods. In psychology, an aversive is an unpleasant stimuli that changes behaviour via negative reinforcement (removal of the stimulus when behaviour is achieved) or positive punishment (applying the stimulus to stop an undesirable behaviour). In dog training, we generally consider choke chains, prong collars, bark (citronella) collars, and shock or e-collars to be aversive, but other tools can be as well depending on how they are used. Aversive techniques have been shown to increase the stress hormone, cortisol, in salvia. Dogs trained using aversive or punishment based methods show an increase in stress related behaviours. We, therefore, must consider the welfare of the dog before using these methods.

P+, azaz a Pozitív Büntetés Másnéven: büntetés.A büntetéssel az a gond, hogyha megbüntetsz egy kutyát nem tanítasz számára alternatív viselkedést, így a kutyában konfliktus alakul ki hisz nem tudja pontosan mi is az amit elvárnak tőle 🤨 Ahelyett, hogy megbüntetnéd amiért rád ugrál tanísd meg neki, hogy üljön le eléd Ahelyett, hogy megbüntetnéd azért mert szétrágott valamit adj neki helyette olyan dolgokat amiket szétrághat 👞 Ide tartoznak a szöges, folytó illetve elektromos nyakörvek is (melyek egyébként a testi fenyítés körébe tartoznak) --------------------------------------------------------------------- #doggurdian #fearfree #kutya #tanuláselmélet #dog #trainhumane #kutyakiképzés #doglover #doglife #kutyagram #magyarkutyások #kutyaélet #dogtraining #forcefreetraining #magyarkutyasok #forcefreetrainer #positivedogtraining #positivedogtrainer #averzív #aversive #aversivefree #aversivemethods #aversivefreetraining Források: https://hangakutyakert.weebly.com/uploads/1/4/0/2/140201321/averz%C3%ADv_eszk%C3%B6z%C3%B6k_%C3%A9s_tr%C3%A9ningtechnik%C3%A1k.pdf https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=435147511567439&set=pcb.435149788233878 https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=435147754900748&set=pcb.435149788233878 https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=435147761567414&set=pcb.435149788233878 https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=435147854900738&set=pcb.435149788233878

Fassungslos! Total veraltet diese aversive 💩!!! #bedürnisorientiert #esgehtauchanders #aversivefree #gewaltistkeinelösung #postivemindset

Why do yucky inhumane things to animals when you don’t have to? 🐕 The effectiveness of positive reinforcement is well documented. The fallout from aversive methods is also well documented. This makes the decision easy for me. ✅ You get so much more out of an animal that trusts you and is happy. The training you do together will be lasting and you will create a strong bond. I don’t want to risk: ❌ Learned helplessness ❌ Avoidance ❌ Increased aggression ❌ Stress ❌ Anxiety ❌ Unwillingness to engage with humans ⛔️ Don’t be fooled by “balanced” trainers. This label is just a way to make pain sound nice and acceptable. ♥️ I care about what does the least harm and what produces the most long lasting results. 👍🏼 Please like and share to promote animal welfare. 😳 WTF. What's the function? When talking about dog behavior, it isn't good or bad, it serves a function. It helps make something go away. It gets someone's attention, it releases pent up energy, it alerts you, it releases stress, it protects a resource, you name it. 📝 Dogs are certainly not thinking about what pleases us, they are thinking about safe vs. dangerous and how to get what they want or need. How to survive. 💜 Reactive dogs need our help. They need us to recognize that they are not bad or naughty. That they need a different approach. Often they need space from their triggers, they are fearful. Sometimes they are frustrated and desperately want to play off lead, sometimes they want to fight (this is not nearly as common as the first two). ❓ Did you know most aggression is fear based? ✅ We need to help these dogs feel better about life in order to reduce the unwanted behaviors like barking, lunging, or biting. ⭐️ Please reach out if you need a professional on board. In these cases your best bet is to go with a specialist. This work can be complex and isn't just about teaching dogs to walk on a loose lead or hold a sit stay around a trigger (the latter not recommended anyway!) The trainer or consultant must understand how to address and change emotional states in animals, and how to stop unwanted behavior from reoccurring over and over. ✅ Please visit doggonegoodbermuda.com for information about working with me and to fill out an intake form. #reactivedog #reactivedogs #reactivedogsunite #reactivedogsofinstagram #aversivefree #fearindogs #whatsthefunction #dogbehaviortraining #dogbehaviour #dogtrainingadvice #dogtrainingtips #bermudadogs

What’s in a Sit? When you ask for a Sit, do you check how your pup’s sitting? Are their legs tucked directly underneath them, nice and straight? Sunglasses are optional! What a Sit Isn’t If your pup is slumping to the side or their legs are sliding outwards like a snow plough then it’s time to work on tidying up your Sit Game. Go back to basics, and only reward tidy sits 👍🏼 Image Description: Top picture is a Miniature Pinscher sitting on a small round table, wearing sunglasses.
