The @labiennale is far from an even playing field. While some nations, artists, curators and galleries can afford stunning spaces and architecturally designed exhibition spaces, other countries are forced to make do with limited resources. We Are One | Wan Acel | Turi Bamwe, the Uganda Pavilion curated by Acaye Kerunen occupied a storefront in the Castello and featured a mix of fashion / costume design, paperbead wall hangings, paintings, mixed media work, and traditional craft objects. The curatorial objective appeared to be to show the range of artistic production in Uganda. The spikes are actually modified leaves that have evolved to adapt to their environment. I wonder how plants adapt without brains to understand their surroundings. The Diriyah Biennale Foundation (DBF) has announced the shortlisted architecture studios, competition details and jury for the inaugural AlMusalla Architectural Prize, a unique international design competition for a musalla (a space for prayer and gathering). The musalla will be built on the iconic site of the Islamic Arts Biennale – the SOM-designed and Aga Khan Award-winning Western Hajj Terminal of the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. The five studios are: - AAU Anastas - Asif Khan - Dabbagh Architects - EAST Architecture Studio - Sahel AlHiyari MRC is organising the two-stage invited design competition on behalf of DBF. 🔎60a Biennale di Venezia 2024 | Stranieri ovunque 🥇Padiglione Repubblica Ceca | Eva Kotáktová con Himali Singh Soin e David Tappeser, Gesturing Towards Decolonial Future e gruppi di anziani e bambini. ••• THE HEART OF A GIRAFFE IN CAPTIVITY IS TWELVE KILOS LIGHTER ••• Ecco chi vince il mio personalissimo Leone d'oro. L'opera racconta la storia della giraffa Lenka, catturata in #Kenya nel 1954 e trasportata allo zoo di #Praga per diventare la "prima giraffa cecoslovacca". È sopravvissuta solamente due anni, il suo corpo esposto al Museo nazionale di Praga fino al 2000. Per arrivare a Praga aveva "attraversato" diversi paesi, straniera suo malgrado. In una Biennale estremamente e inutilmente antropocentrica come manco nel Rinascimento, Kotáktová recupera la storia dei tanti animali sradicati e uccisi dall'uomo per l'uomo, anche solo in nome della grandezza del proprio stato ("la prima giraffa Cecoslovacca"). L'opera è l'atterraggio di una serie di attività di sensibilizzazione portate avanti con bambini e anziani della Repubblica Ceca, per rinegoziare le categorie di identità e confini attraverso l'empatia e le emozioni. Questo lavoro mi rimanda a un libro pazzesco sul #Congo e a un altro padiglione (di cui scriverò più in là). Wenn ich ein Bild so weit fertig habe, dass ich es der Welt zeigen möchte, bekommt es zuerst mein Lieblingsmensch zu Gesicht. Ist er mal nicht ganz sooo begeistert, reichen seine Bemerkungen von „Ja, ist okay, aber ich bin mehr von dir gewohnt“ über „Mein Go hast du“ bis zu „Mir fehlt das gewisse Etwas, das Neue“. Und wissen Sie was? Ich verstehe, was er meint, und mache ihm eine lange Nase. Das Auge gewöhnt sich, alles wiederholt sich, wir vergleichen, was wir sehen, hören, schmecken, was wir erleben mit dem bereits Erfahrenen. Wir feiern das Einmalige und langweilen uns mit dem Bekannten. Oder auch nicht. Vielleicht wird uns das Wahrgenommene vertraut, wickelt uns in eine warme, wohlige Decke und umschmeichelt uns. Wir kategorisieren und etikettieren es, um einen Zugang zu finden, es wiederauffindbar zu machen. Es soll ja an die Wand, in die Galerie, den Katalog, das Buch, das Museum, in die Schublade. Nicht flüchtig, un(be)greifbar, Sie wissen, was ich meine. Wenn es uns dann wieder in die Hände oder vor die Nase kommt, überraschen wir und es uns vielleicht, indem uns etwas anderes auffällt, wenngleich das „schöne Stück“ sich nicht verändert hat, das Laute wird vielleicht leiser, das Grelle erschrickt nicht mehr. Was weiß ich. Ich weiß nie, wo mich die Farben und Formen hinführen. Das Kind in mir probiert gerne etwas aus: Gelb mit Ocker, ach nö, Schwarz mit Blau, may be. Kreise mit Quadraten? Morgen vielleicht. Mal wieder mehr figurativ? Ein Ausflug zurück zur Fotografie mal wieder? Oder doch nicht. Lassen wir uns überraschen, es kommt ja doch so oder so ;) Und der Text? Sie haben sich daran gewöhnt? Na großartig. Machen Sie sich den doch heute mal selbst. Sie kennen das, schauen Sie im Buch, dritte Reihe im Regal, Seite 24, Zeile sieben. Erstes, viertes und achtes Wort. Seite 36, Zeile zwölf. Zweites und sechstes Wort. Ｚｉｍｔ ｕｎｄ Ｎｅｌｋｅｎ Zum Ende des Jahres sind die Farben erschöpft, hängen etwas durch, chillen müde auf dem Sofa, die Füße auf dem Tisch. Das Blau ist verschnupft und Grün hat einen Kater. Wieder zu viel Gin. Der Versuch, nicht zu hören, nicht zu sehen, missglückt. Das Jahr war laut. Wieder einmal. Pink macht Urlaub und Orange backt Plätzchen hinter verschlossener Tür. Es mag den aufdringlichen Duft nicht. Ich würde ihm gerne sagen, dass das doch schön und anheimelnd sei, aber es hat Kopfhörer auf und hört mich nicht. Sie alle sind etwas blass um die Nase und tanken Kraft für ihren nächsten Gig. Ich höre ein leises Klopfen an der Tür und öffne überrascht. Da steht das Grau, von Weiß und Schwarz gestützt. In tiefem Bass sagt es, es sei die Vertretung und für den Dezember gebucht. Ich klatsche gedanklich in die Hände und freue mich trotz Misstrauen insgeheim über den seltenen Gast und gebe ihm verlegen ein übertriebenes Trinkgeld. Im Hintergrund suchen sich Zimt und Nelke unsichtbare Wege. Welch penetrante Mischung unterlegt mit leisem Schnarchen! Vor ein paar Tagen reiste ich in die Zeit zurück zum Cro-Magnon-Menschen, nach Vallon Pont d'Arc, nach Montignac, Altamira und in die Cosquer-Höhle. Nach Spanien, Frankreich, Italien, Afrika und Asien. Weit, ganz weit. Begegnete den ersten Homo sapiens und sah Schatten der Neandertaler und Denisovaner. Ich verlor mich in der Zeit, wo Erde, Kohle, Harz und Fett, Ocker und Pigmente mit Spucke und Blut etwas geschaffen haben, was so unglaublich ist, dass es einem tatsächlich die Sprache verschlägt. Ein Tor zu einer anderen Welt. Was wollten sie sagen, als sie in ihren Höhlen malten? Worauf verweisen, was zum Ausdruck bringen? Das Praktische? Religiöses vielleicht? Ich nehme Platon mit auf meine Reise und zeige ihm eine lange Nase, sperre ihn mit Wittgenstein und Heidegger in eine Höhle, in der sie die ontologische Differenz mit dem Höhlengleichnis bei einer Flasche Selbstgebrautem lallend bereden. In der Ferne höre ich das Blabla, wie es leiser und leiser wird. Ich wünschte, sie könnten malen, und male. Ohne Spucke mit Herzblut.
