The common kingfisher: incredibly shy birds! But when you do get to observe one, it's amazing to see it dive into the water to catch fish. Their call is also quite loud and easily identifiable among other bird sounds if you know it. The common kingfisher is @ishawonderfulworld and mine's "spark bird," the one that started our obsession of birds. 😁 We first saw one while walking around a temple, in Gyeongju, South Korea; it was hunting for fish at a creek below a bridge. Photographing swifts and swallows is a painfully difficult task. These birds are extremely fast, top that with their tiny bodies that makes them very hard to photograph. These birds are so dang fast that till you've focused the bird is already out of your frame. I've had instances where the bird is out of the picture and I am focusing on some random dude's head. The bird shown above, the crested treeswift is no exception to this. During my point and shoot days I've had countless instances where the bird is flying and I am struggling to even get an identifiable image. But fast forward to today, I got a picture of one of the rarest bird in the world, our very own Philippine Eagle. Your goals then have changed now and will change in the future. Do not mistake its change as a failure. The only accomplishment one must care about is to live life meaningfully." "CRITICALLY ENDANGERED. Previously considered Endangered. One of the world's most endangered birds. Global population calculated to be 90-250 pairs, or 180-500 mature individuals, based on an estimate of 82-233 breeding pairs for island of Mindanao, which supports bulk of population. Outside Mindanao, population is poorly known, but likely to be tiny: very few birds on Luzon, perhaps six pairs on Samar, and two on Leyte. "Throughout range, deforestation continues to be main threat to long-term survival of the species.
