Heute am 9. Wandertag auf dem Portugiesischen Küstenwanderweg hatten wir nur eine kurze Strecke von 13 Kilometern vor uns. Gestern vereinte sich übrigens der Küstenwanderweg mit dem Camino Portugues Central- und immer sind noch keine Massen an Wanderern unterwegs 🤞Heute ging’s also raus aus Arcade über eine Steinbrücke, die den Rio Verdugo überquerte und dann durch kleine Dörfer mit teils schönen alten Steinhäusern, vorbei an Gemüsegarten sowie vielen Weingärten, die bereits klitzekleine Trauben ansetzen 🍇 Dann sind wir wieder durch Eukalyptus- und Mischwälder gewandert und wurden immer wieder von Wasserläufen/Bächen begleitet. Unterwegs mehrten sich kleine Verkaufsstände inklusive Sitzgelegenheiten, wo man Getränke, Snacks und Nippes erwerben konnte- Stempel gab es auch hier und da. Ruckzuck waren wir am späten Vormittag schon in Pontevegra, unserem Tagesziel angekommen. Camino Portugués memories day eight - 28 April 2022. A short walk from Tui to O Porriño. I had a late start on this day as I went to Convento das Clarisas to buy some of the nuns’ homemade biscuits. Well worth buying some when you’re in Tui. 😋 It was another grey start to the day but it didn’t take long before there were blue skies again. The road splits in two at one point - the quick route to O Porriño through an industrial area, or the longer scenic route. I took the scenic path which didn’t add too much distance anyway as it was just over 10 miles in all. On the road again 😃 Und erstmal führte uns unser Weg raus aus Vigo und dann immer schön bergauf 😅 und noch mehr bergauf bis 15 % Steigung ⛰️ Dafür wurden wir aber auch wirklich belohnt mit einem wunderschönen Weg oberhalb der Küste mit einem phantastischen Ausblick auf die Flussmündung Ria de Vigo - die wie ein Fjord aussieht ☀️ Der Weg überhalb der Küste verlief durch einen Eukalyptuswald mit klitzekleinen Wasserfällen und Bachläufen 🌳 ging zwischendurch immer mal wieder auf und ab. Nach dem Wald ging‘s dann wieder langsam bergab und durch Dörfer und Felder vorbei bis wir nach 22 Kilometern Arcade erreichten. Einen Zwischenstopp für eine Mahlzeit legten wir in Redondela nach circa 15 Km ein, da wir das Frühstück im Hotel ausgelassen hatten. Etapa 12 : Monteriggioni - San Gimignano. 30 km ( 325 km ). Etapa disfrutona , de las que nos gustan : bosques , atravesar ríos , subidas infernales , bajadas con barrizal. Los últimos kilómetros han sido intensos pero de nuevo ha valido la pena. San Gimignano es una auténtica joya de la Toscana. Además, por fin , nos ha acompañado el sol en toda la jornada. Hoy nos acoge un convento que solo admite a peregrinos de larga distancia , en el que no se puede reservar y se hace cena comunitaria con todos los peregrinos ( lo que viene a ser el auténtico espíritu). Nach einem Ruhetag in Baiona ging es heute (endlich) weiter 😉🥾 Nach guten 250 Metern auf dem Weg setzte der versprochene Regen ein, aber die Regencapes hatten wir natürlich griffbereit und so ging es trotzdem gut gelaunt weiter. Heute war der Weg generell urbaner und ein Stück von der Küste entfernt, aber es kamen zum Glück immer Abschnitte an einem Bach entlang, auf einen kleinen Berg über Stock & Stein hoch und über Stock & Stein auch wieder runter. Durch Waldstücke an Pfützen vorbei sowie an mehreren kleinen Bächlein 🌳🐌 Der Regen hörte nach gut 2 Stunden bei km 10 auf und wir konnten die Regenklamotten verstauen. Nach weiteren kleineren Ortschaften - die auf dieser Strecke eher sparsamer und liebloser den Wanderweg ausschildern- erreichten wir die Stadt Vigo. Der erste Eindruck: schön geht anders. Aber wir waren sicher, dass es auch hier schöne Ecken geben muss. Das Stadtzentrum hat schöne alte Häuser mit maroden Charm, eine breite Fussgängerzone und viele nette Cafés und Restaurants. Gestärkt haben wir uns im vegetarischen/veganem 🌱Restaurant in der Nähe unseres Hotels Compostela. Camino memories day seven - 27 April 2022. This was the day I walked from Rubiães in Portugal to Tui in Spain. Although the day started with rain the sun soon came out and it was perfect walking weather. 16. Etappe: Barbadelo - Gonzar ~26km Sonntag, 14.05.2023 Guter Tag☺️ Schöne Strecke, viel grün, viele Tiere, kaum Höhenmeter und Schmerzen, voll im Flow, lange Pause im schönen Portomarin. Die Kilometer waren nun zweistellig😯 Am Abend nach einem sehr üppigen Abendessen in der Albergue Casa Garcia (wirklich vollkommen überfressen, Empfehlung!) schmieden wir den letzten “Schlachtplan”: in drei Tagen wollen wir in Santiago sein - noch 3 Etappen mit 31, 33 und 19km - vielleicht etwas überambitioniert? 🙃 Highlights: - geöffneter Supermarkt am Sonntag (mit Kuchen im Gepäck fühl ich mich einfach besser) - Albergue Casa Garcia in Gonzar - hab mir selbst die Achillessehne getaped - Mein Opa, das bin ich, Truck Stop - Telefonat mit Mama zum Muttertag - treffe unterwegs, den Italiener wieder, der mir eine Woche früher seelischen Beistand geleistet hat, als ich mit Nasenbluten mitten im Nirgendwo saß - Sprachnachricht über meinen Weg an eine Freundin, die ich mir heute noch gern anhöre Funfact: auf Foto 5 sieht man einen Puma-Badelatschen, am nächsten Tag lerne ich den Schwaben kennen, der ihn verloren hat😆 #caminofrances #caminodesantiagodecompostela #espana #senderismo #hiking #jakobsweg #französischerjakobsweg #pilgern #akingcamino #caminolove #rutasasantiago #peregrina #castillayleón #ultreiaetsuseia #barbadelo #portomarin #gonzar #casagarcia

Day 5 of the Camino de Santiago La Costa: I covered about 20 km today because I wanted to spend the night in Tui, a lovely small town. My body has already adapted to walking and carrying a backpack, so there weren’t any major difficulties. Throughout my life, I’ve only stayed in hostels with shared rooms a few times and thought I’d never do it again. To my surprise, just six days into the journey, having decent bed linen in a hostel brings me joy, and a bed with a curtain feels like a five-star hotel. ‼️Reality of Camino. / Realita Camina. 🤳All the pretty pictures of nature and mountains and food and places. Walking for couple of hours, resting in the afternoons. It wasn’t that easy! 🧟It was dirty, muddy, dusty, whenever we went. We gave up on shoes, they would be dirty tomorrow again. Socks went straight to the bin after we came home from our journey. 🧺As we packed only couple of pieces of clothes, we had to wash those every other day. We usually hand washed, it was free and we didn’t have to wait for the washing machine. But being so tired after walk every day, it took sometimes took the last pieces of energy. 🫧And that isn’t all! Niekoľko hodín sme kráčali, poobede sme oddychovali. Nebolo to také jednoduché! 🧟Bolo to špinavé, blatové, prachové, kdekoľvek sme šli. S topánkami sme to vzdali, zajtra budú špinavé znova. Ponožky išli rovno do odpadkov hneď ako sme sa z našej cesty vrátili domov. 🧺Keďže sme si zbalili iba zopár kusov oblečenia, museli sme ho každý druhý deň prať. Väčšinou sme ho prali v rukách, bolo to zadarmo a nemuseli sme čakať na práčku. Ale zobralo nám to niekedy posledné kúsky energie, po tom ako sme boli každý deň unavené. 🫧A to nebolo všetko! Camino memories day six - 26 April 2022. This was a really wet walk from Ponte de Lima to Rubiães. It was a tough day as, apart from the rain which was pretty constant, there was a really steep uphill section through a forest. I just kept my head down for the hike uphill and didn’t even get to enjoy the view from the top as the weather was so bad! ☔️☔️☔️ On the plus side, I was staying in a lovely place in Rubiães (where I was the only person there) and had a great pilgrim meal at Bom Retiro. Camino Portugués memories day five - 25 April 2022. The rain had cleared so this was a lovely 12 miler from Balugães to Ponte de Lima walking through vineyards and beautiful countryside. My favourite day so far although there were still way too many cobbles for my liking! I was definitely counting down to crossing into Spain and sealed roads! Ponte de Lima was a lovely town to explore and, as well as it being market day, it was also Freedom Day in Portugal so the whole town was buzzing. Day four on the Camino de Santiago traveled 140 km+: I’m starting to enjoy the journey and understand why so many people who have walked it want to do it again. You happen to meet fascinating people along the way, exceptional even (for one must indeed be quite «exceptional» to leave the comfort of their home to walk 270 kilometers staying in hostels)😅. These are people from around the world, who are just like you, open and eager for new friendships. Yesterday, I had lunch with students from Asia, and dined with retirees from Germany and a Canadian student who met the (my😁) Asian students the day before😅 You are all so different, with different life experiences, yet you find it intriguing to be together. Camino memories day four - 24 April 2022. A short walk of just ten miles from Barcelos to Balugães but most of them were in the rain. It was just a bit of light drizzle when I set off but within ten minutes I had to get the rain poncho on. It’s the most unflattering thing but it did a good job of keeping me (and more importantly) my backpack dry. Apart from the rain it was a really lovely walk through the countryside - lots of vineyards but so many cobbles, and quite a lot of mud too. Heute, an unserem 5. Tag, ging es ab Vila Praia de Âncora der Küste entlang durch den Nationalpark Mata do Camido, der uns durch einen schönen, ruhigen Kiefernwald führte. Der Weg führte uns bis nach Caminha, dem letzten Ort auf dem Portugiesischen Seite der Strecke🇵🇹.Mit „Taxi Mar“ ging über den Fluss Minho, der gerade mal eine handbreit Wasser unter dem Kiel auf Grund von Ebbe führte. In Galizien angekommen, ging s um den Berg Tegra herum, durch‘s Dorf Saa und dann erreichten wir unsere Tagesetappe A Guarda/La Guarda 🇪🇸 Mit 15 Kilometern hatten wir heute unsere bisher kürzeste Strecke 🥾Noch immer sind die Wege schön leer und die Wanderer, die man trifft, hat man an den Tagen zuvor schon auf der Strecke getroffen oder sie nächtigen in den gleichen Hotels wie wir. 🍺 Salut! Just arrived to Gijon for a rest day or two for the feet & legs. Got a new hairdo! The ladies took excellent care of me. Deep clean wash for this scruffy peregrina, neck massage, scalp rub, haircut/style and blow out… all for less than 13€. I tipped well. 🥰 Found a Farmacia for Voltaren, now to book a bed or room. 🤚 It’s been a great day so far. Here’s a photo of @kcandersondiaz and I on one of our many walks while I train for a life giving opportunity. (& also for the algo.) You can read more of what I have been up to below. ⬇️ In little less than a month, I will be leaving for the Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, for discernment, continuing education, and an intentional unplugged sabbatical away from the community-building work that I do. This is a trip where I will be walking several miles a day from St. Jean Pied de Port, France, to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, where it is said that St. James is buried. The last 5 years of my life have been life-changing, but lack of proper rest in the midst of a quickly changing world and through my various jobs and roles has left me without anything else to give. A popular saying in regards to the Camino is that “the Camino provides.” It is my hope that I will receive exactly what I need from this opportunity and that it will help me reset and refuel myself for this next chapter of my life. Camino Portugués memories day three - 23 April 2022. This was a short day from São Pedro de Rates to Barcelos. It may only have been 11 miles but most of them were on cobbles and the ones that weren’t were on stony ground! I took a detour (deliberate, I wasn’t lost) that was super hilly but there were stunning views from the top of the Atlantic Ocean and the Coastal route. My first blister appeared so it was on with the Compeed before exploring Barcelos, a lovely town and home to the rooster, Portugal’s emblem.
