1000/10 recommend taking a cruise over New Year’s Eve. We had the BEST time ringing in the new year this way! 🥳 We sailed on the @disneycruiseline Wish 🛳️ ✨❤️ And I got to run the #castawaycay5k a second time! (I know this is 3+ months late in posting but I still wanted to share a few snaps 🤩)
I almost forgot to post about our last day on the Disney Dream. We had another stop at Castaway Cay. This time the weather was perfect! 😎☀️ I decided to run the 5k and then Ron and I rented bikes. Zoey was off with her new friends running the beach. Cookies BBQ for lunch again. This time they were out of hotdogs and the kids were not happy! The soft serve machines were all broken too! 😓 This time Minnie and Goofy came for the dance party in their fun Bahama beach wear! So cute. Dinner was back at Royal Palace. Zoey joined her friend for the early stage show, so we had another solo dinner date. The show was Disney’s Believe. Another montage show with lots of character appearances and kind of a cheesy storyline. Still enjoyable, but I had to race to the theater because I tried to squeeze in a facial between dinner and the show! We had a stormy day for disembarkation, but it was very quick and smooth. We were at our hotel by 9:00 or 9:30 am and had no room. We ended up at the movies seeing Ghostbusters with other bored people from the ship! The beach was across from our hotel, but it was windy and rainy all day. Hindsight we should have just hopped on the plane after we got off, but we had a very long travel day on Saturday. Day 8: Disney’s Castaway Cay. This was my absolute favorite day in a trip filled with favorite days. Started off with a very sweaty 5k—complained the whole time, but we were happy we did it. Then, thanks to Michelle, we got a cabana for the day on an even more private beach. I wanted to freeze time forever pushing my kid around on a raft in the ocean and hunting seashells. Did you know that Castaway Cay has its own 5k race! You can do it at your own pace and start when you want to. We tried it out when we were there last month and had a lot of fun! Even our 6 year olds (and 60 year old parents) completed it! It’s a nice trail to walk (there aren’t a ton of sites to look at but still fun). You share the trail with bikers and some runners. The start of the 5k is at the bike rental shack. They will show you the trail and there are signs along the way as well. When you finish you head back over to the bike shack to pick your medal out. 🏃♀️🏝️✨ Honestly I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life to run this particular 5k. Today we arrived at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, and it did not disappoint. I loved the 5K course, the lunch BBQ, the super soft sand and the entire vibe. And I’m thrilled that I got a medal for running the 5K. 😍 You can pick up the medal at the bike rental shack after completing the 5K on your own. (Non-pro tip: don’t do what I did on the 5k course and miss the turn off to the right once you make the left onto the landing strip.) I was particularly grateful for the water stations along the 5K route, those are key (cay?). MEDAL MONDAY! With the Princess Half Marathon weekend quickly approaching, I did not expect to have a new medal Monday the week before. ⚡️It was Castaway Cay day today! I started off the morning by doing the 5K on the island. It’s free and there is no sign up! I completed the Castaway Cay 5k! The course is open for all guests to complete at their leisure during their time on the island. You complete the course and then go to the little booth right near the start/finish to collect your medal. MY FIRST 5K!! Did I really do my first 5K on vacation? Yup! Honestly I know a 5K isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of it all but as someone who hasn’t been athletically inclined or ever interested in things like this, walking/jogging this scenic path is something I’m incredibly proud of. I really enjoyed that it was go at your own pace too. My watch kept pausing my time so I couldn’t even track it but at the end I’m kinda glad- it took the self-imposed pressure off to hit a certain time and just enjoy my surroundings. The best part had to be unexpectedly running into the best hype squad at the end. It started and ended at Pelican Point (the 2nd out of 3 beaches at Castaway Cay), so I ran into some familiar faces. And they celebrated me like I ran a marathon. Rinna & Dyan- y’all the real MVP’s. Swipe to the end to see probably one of my favorite moments from the trip🏅🙌
