Marathon number 21 is done! @eugenemarathon is a great race, unfortunately this wasn’t my race. Due to some glute issues the last couple weeks and then consistent calf cramping (to the point of not being able to straighten my leg), I struggled, but I didn’t give up. There were many times that I wanted to quit, but I knew I was stronger physically and mentally to push through and get it done. 4:10:39 is by far my best, but it’s still another finish and I’m now going to pull back and restart my training from zero and work on taking better care of myself and getting stronger and faster. It’s been a minute since I actually posted but on this, my 8 year anniversary of running, I couldn’t not post! I wish I could say that I ran 8 miles in celebration but that’s just NOT where my fitness is currently. 🤪 Instead, I followed my Garmins suggested workout and ended up with a total of 4 miles. That works! 😁 I can’t believe I’ve been able to call myself a runner for 8 years! 🫢 As someone who grew up playing sports where running was punishment and I STRUGGLED 🤢, never in a million years did I think I would fall in love with it and that I would plan family vacations around races and meet up with random strangers from the internet to run with! It is SO wild that because of @toneitup and their old workouts that suggested 20 minutes of cardio along with the strength, I became a runner! While training for Dopey doesn’t officially start until June 1st… today was the day to find my “benchmark.” And I have to say, how humbling today’s run was. The 10-miler that felt like a marathon. Through the heat and humidity, I was so sure I wasn’t going to finish. But I did! My A goal was just got get to Hollywood Studios so I could run through Batuu in the Star Wars area, which I’ve never had the chance to go before. I was okay ending it there. But I decided one more mile. Then one more. Making to mile 6 and matching what I did the day before was by B goal. Then I started thinking, I might actually be able to finish this thing. Once the Epcot ball came into view around mile 8 I knew I had a shot. With the balloon ladies only 20 seconds behind me, I crossed the finish line and completed the 19.3 mile challenge along with my @americancancersociety fundraiser with @acsdnation. Over the last few months I’ve raised $2,000 thanks to the donations of my friends, family, co-workers, and even people I’ve met online but never in person. That video required the runner to get in side plank position before the test, needed full range of motion and strength on a stability ball (unstable surface) before the test started, and required full range of motion of the knee on a high surface before the test even started. Recreational runners like runDisney runners and injury-prone runners need a strength test that they can actually perform so you get real results. That’s why the Runner Strength Assessment I use for my clients has them start in normal positions they could get into: Sitting in a chair Standing Laying on back, belly or side, On all fours No special equipment, no unstable surfaces just for the test. The Final Finish Line of the ‘23-‘24 Season Was Full of Emotions #finishlinefriday 🧡❤️💚 Two Coasts! 11 Finish Lines (for me! Congrats to everyone who did them all!!) So much to celebrate and so much to look forward to! I’ve run this whole season through a little cloud- after the NYC marathon fiasco, running and I haven’t been friends. I know for a fact, without these runDisney weekends I might have given it all up together at this point. But I just love the people at these races too much. I love the antics. The medals. The glory of grown adults in wigs and oversized costumes drinking heavily before sunrise. I even love the 3 AM bus rides filled with anticipation and purpose. It’s a stupidly expensive therapy/ hobby but I love it. So I’ll be back! See you in a few months everyone! Congratulations on all your achievements this year! #rundisney
If you don’t know the story behind this costume, buckle up because it’s a long one. 14 years ago a single Veruca posted a meme about wanting her own Mr Fredrickson to go on adventures with. 8 months later Dan sent me a message on match. I thought he was too old for me and wouldn’t be much fun, but he asked me about gravy and if I had two kitchens so clearly he did his research about being Italian. It took us almost 3 years to get the timing right, but we have been on an adventure ever since. The theme for our wedding was UP and for our first rundisney race weekend we were Carl and Ellie. When the themes were announced for Springtime Surprise I knew we were running the 10K. I had awesome costumes planned but… life happened and it was the day we were leaving and they weren’t quite finished. As a costume designer making sure everyone else is taken care of@comes FIRST which means our ideas are last minute. 11am the day we were leaving I had the idea of being bride and groom Ellie and Carl. Thanks to a borrowed dress and a $4.50 suit jacket we were in business! This may be my most favorite race. It was magical. I don’t know if it was the chocolate, the balloons, the pretty dress or all of my favorite humans dressed as my favorite Disney movie but it was wonderful! Sorry to everyone on the boat who heard me swear when I saw our photo on the rundisney IG account. Oops.
