To start with, their wines are very well positioned for each level of champagne knowledge: Téthys as an initiation point, Prisme - for advanced champagne lovers, and then “De Caurés à Mont-Aigü” for those who have learnt what zen is. Karine and Richard have been doing a great job and, what’s even better, they’ve been doing it consistently great! Good/bad year, I tasted their wines at “Passion Chardonnay” or during my events - each cuvée delivered what it was supposed to. This year wasn’t an exception. Predictably good, each cuvée well-placed (I so much enjoyed the energy of "De Caurés à Mont-Aigü - 2016”) and so easy to recommend. Thank you so much, you make my job of praising them so easy! Damn, what a beautiful wine, Adrien's latest creation doesn't try to amaze with special effects but instead gets straight to the point, hitting the mark. A Meunier from "minor" terroir with a very short stay on yeasts (just over a year) and a rather recent disgorgement, dated September 2023. More a wine than a Champagne, with light body, sharp profile and excellent overall precision. Just a subtle touch of oiliness in texture where fresh but never unripe tones of white berries, peach and white grapes explode, then it's up to the incisive savory sapidity to take control of the sip: "sea" minerality, extremely crunchy acids and notes of sweet lemon on ending. Killer drinkability but also outstanding construction. The nose, despite its youth, is seductive and snappy, with a very light VA brightening up fresh floral hints, cereals, gooseberries and white berries tones. Has champagne Palmer been misunderstood or even miscommunicated in the Swedish market? After a couple of hours (and glasses of wine) with the winemaker yesterday, I am thinking that might the case. Palmer has been a big brand in the Swedish market for a long time, as well as one of the largest export markets for Palmer. But the notion has been that of a big brand. Maybe for some advanced consumers it has been known as a co-operative. Delivering a high qpr. But beyond that? I think there are some excellent stories to tell around Palmer as a company, how they were founded, by whom and who owns them today. Its more a story of a (number of) grower(s) than a story of a negociant. Its more a story around terroir, vineyard and producing great grapes than winemaking, packaging and sales. Its more a story in pursuit of excellence and the willingness to push the boundaries than clinging on to the past. I think that many other producers, for example, might envy the large holding of Chardonnay in the villages of Trepail and Villers-Marmery, in the Montagne the Reims area, that relays a special Id as well as benefits from the (unfortunate) climate trends. Founded 1947 by 7 grower producers in the Montagne de Reims region, they today manage 80ha belonging to 320 growers and produce around a million bottles of wine. Today a range of 8 wines, but maybe with some exciting news ahead, both in terms of new cuvees and new appearance. First out in that direction is La Reserve Brut Nature, with a pure, mineral, fresh, elegant and saline expression. And with a new label, supporting the transition ahead. I’ll write up some tasting notes when possible, for the below line-up: La Reserve, La Reserve Brut Nature, BdB 2018, ,BdB 2012 mag, Vintage brut 2016, Vintage brut 2013 mag, BdN, Amazone, Rose Solera, Brut Vintage 1996 mag What can be said already is that Palmer BdB is a really strong product, and maybe, just maybe, should a BdB also head up their range in the future...;)? Ich hatte mal wieder Lust auf einen Rosé-Champagner und daher gibt es heute Cuvée Rubis von Champagne Vilmart & Cie. Der Wein besteht zu 90% aus Pinot Noir - davon 15% Rotwein - und 10% Chardonnay aus Premier Cru Lagen in Rilly-la-Montagne. Degorgiert im Juli 2023 mit 8 Gramm Versanddosage. Der Wein kommt in einem kräftigen Lachsrosa ins Glas. In der Nase rotfruchtige Noten von Erdbeeren, Himbeeren und etwas Kirsche, dazu florale Noten. Am Gaumen zeigt er eine feine Perlage, dazu ebenfalls rotfruchtige Noten und eine herbe Grapefruit-Note. Mit angenehm frischer Säure, die durch die etwas höhere Dosage sehr schön gepuffert wird. Toller körperreicher Rosé-Champagner mit dezenter Fruchtigkeit und einer angenehm herben Note im Hintergrund. Alles andere als belanglos. La foto per me più significativa di questi printemps é questa, di #marienoelleledru , che qualche giorno prima dei printemps ha subito un'operazione delicata all'occhio, neanche perfettamente riuscita, per la quale da Ambonnay mi avevano anche già avvisato che avrebbe necessitato di alcune revisioni. E che lei non stava per nulla bene. Avevo paura a scriverle per chiederle come stava, di disturbarla vista la situazione. Pensavo fosse chiusa in casa. Arrivo giovedì diretto dall'italia alla festa che anticipa i printemps... e invece la trovo lì, con gli occhiali neri e i suoi 74 anni, sorridente. Che sorpresa bellissima!! Il momento é esattamente quello della seconda foto, foto rubata a @vdhvince 🙏 , che ritrae anche me sulla sinistra di spalle, che ero appena entrato e la stavo salutando. É la foto della resilienza champenoise, della scorza dura dei vigneron! Per il resto il mio commento sui printemps é che tanto i vini usciti brutti della 23 sono altrove rispetto a chi fa i printemps, ma tanto lo sapevamo anche a ottobre. Quello che esce per me dai printemps sono invece i confronti e i discorsi sui dati di mercato... come mi ha detto un amico "c'é tutto riservato ma nulla che parte, ovunque così". Forse si é corso un po' troppo, c'é qualche aggiustamento da fare, e chissà che a breve non serva proprio la resilienza di Marie Noelle. La champagne fortunatamente é unita, solida, dinamica e resiliente, e per questo sarà sempre grande! SALON 2004 CHARDONNAY 100% Non capita spesso di avere queste bottiglie tra le mani e c'era tanta curiosità di assaggiare quello che per molti è il miglior champagne in assoluto. Le aspettative non hanno deluso la realtà dei fatti, anche se poi i gusti rimangono gusti. Blanc de Blancs unico che deriva dalle migliori uve Chardonnay provenienti dal vigneto di proprietà “Le Jardin de Salon” e da altre piccole parcelle del grand cru Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, il terroir più prestigioso della Côte des Blancs. In seguito alla rifermentazione in bottiglia questa cuvée dimora per 10 anni nella cantina fresca e silenziosa della Maison, prima di rivelare la sua complessità e finezza, il suo prestigio, la sua classe. Il basso dosaggio è un tocco ulteriore ad una bevuta veramente affascinante. Si presenta brillante, di colore giallo paglierino con leggeri riflessi dorati, perlage fine e persistente. Il naso è intenso, complesso e fine, con note che spaziano dalla crosta di pane, al burro fino a note di agrumi e pasticceria secca. Al palato risulta secco, abbastanza caldo, abbastanza morbido, fresco e sapido. Buona pungenza e ottima persistenza.
