🥂 WINE COURSE PREP 🥂 👩🏻🏫 April-May is one of the busiest times of year for me for the teaching side of my business! We’ll be covering a lot of great topics: climatic, grape-growing and winemaking influences, grape varieties and regions plus tasting skills, serving and pairing! Took a whirlwind trip to beautiful Deer Valley for goldmansachs Private Wealth Management's “At the Helm conference”. I was honored to be asked to speak along with my new favorite person antoni and iamtero about all things food(and dog food), wellness and wine. We finished the 2 day trip with a wine tasting for all the guests. I was so proud how the wolfferwine wines showed and we gained some great new fans! As always there are moments when you feel imposter syndrome at these type of events, but in the end I absolutely belonged there and was thrilled with the amazing connections I made. A lot of you may not know this, but before starting my own law firm, I worked as a corporate and commercial litigation attorney… and I hated my job. 😅I was unfulfilled and burnt out, to say the least. While I worked that job, I dreamt of THIS practice. [SLOVENIAN WINE] The story of Kalos sparkling wine is intricately woven with the rich history of the Vipava Valley and the Idrija Mercury Mine. @mohorickatarina , the visionary behind Kalos, has beautifully captured her love for sparkling wine and champagne in its name—KA tarina LO ves S parkling wine. This unique connection to the Vipava Valley and Idrija Mercury Mine is what makes Kalos more than just a wine—it's a story. I will use the Slovenian word "penina" for Kalos sparkling wine since it is our unique word for sparkling wine. The wine for penina Kalos originates from the renowned winemaking heritage of Vipava Valley, specifically from the Furlan farm in Zavin. Kalos's journey begins with the first fermentation in stainless steel barrels, followed by a second fermentation in the bottle (18 months on yeast). But here's where it gets fascinating—the bottles are then stored in the Idrija mine, 122 meters below the ground. This process sets Kalos apart, inviting you to discover a new dimension of winemaking. The concept of maturing sparkling wine in unique conditions is not a novelty; there are, fpr example, instances of wines matured in the sea in Slovenia and across the globe. This trend underscores the market potential for specially matured wines. The 2022 vintage of Pinot Noir, it has a profile reflective of a stronger vintage coupled with a Bench site: the structure, the tannins, the earthiness. 💪🏼 I found the 2021 to be lovely, perfumed, and floral. You could not see two more distinctly different vintages in a glass than if you pour the 2021 and 2022 Mason Vineyard Pinot Noir side by side. One vintage tested me to my limits; the other one was a welcome relief. Tiffany will share how writing fosters diversity within wine by inviting readers to imagine themselves as part of a story. Travel as a theme in wine writing amplifies the thrill of exploring a wine and region. You'll get to try your hand at creatively describing a wine, invoking three key ingredients: connections (people), journeys (places), and point-of-view(s). Bio: Tiffany Patterson, our esteemed workshop facilitator, has a unique journey that led her from the world of enterprise data products (American Express, IBM, Capital Group) to the realms of wine tourism and writing. Her recent acceptance into Virgin Galactic's Astronaut Program and participation as a fellow in the 2024 Wine Writer's Symposium in Napa Valley, California, are testament to her diverse interests and passions. It’s back! This is the third release of our Collab Viognier. So can @brookehusband and I say we are sort of experienced now? These are young vines and we work closely with Josh Mitchell @grimsbyhillsidevineyard to follow the block and collectively assess for the right pick date. With young vines, ripeness can be uneven and for us, we appreciate that some clusters will be at a different brix level than others. We’re looking for the balance between going past the translucent phase of the grape to a riper more golden and even bronze colour variation is nice. This gorgeous wine drops soon and it disappears fast. Took a whirlwind trip to beautiful Deer Valley for goldmansachs Private Wealth Management's “At the Helm conference”. I was honored to be asked to speak along with my new favorite person antoni and iamtero about all things food(and dog food), wellness and wine. We finished the 2 day trip with a wine tasting for all the guests. I was so proud how the wolfferwine wines showed and we gained some great new fans! As always there are moments when you feel imposter syndrome at these type of events, but in the end I absolutely belonged there and was thrilled with the amazing connections I made.
