Max is now 5 weeks post op and is doing well so far 🤞 he's up to 20 minutes on his walks, walking very slow but doing well. He's had a couple of 'oops' moments, jumping on the sofa and jumping at someone walking past but he seemed ok afterwards, he's having his x-rays next Monday to see how he's healing. I'm still a bit worried about his right leg, which started all this off, as he still drags it at times. But we're hoping the more he heals and the stronger he gets it'll get better, keep your fingers crossed for him! Max had bilateral TPLO surgery and PRP injections in his elbows last Monday 🤕 Having both knees done and injections in his elbows was rough!! For the first few days he was very sore and didn't want to move much, poor boy 💔 All the drugs made him incontinent, which was a nightmare as we were worried about his wounds were getting wet! Luckily it didn't seem to be an issue and his wounds are healing. He seems more comfortable on his legs and already doesn't need much help. Now he's starting to feel better he masses of energy 🙃 we can start short 5 minute walks, 3 times a day on Monday, increasing by 5 minutes every week so we're hoping that'll help with his boredom. I think sedatives are going to be our best friend these next few months! Poor Zeke had his 3rd major surgery on Friday. Zeke was born with dysplastic knees…just like me with my hips. He had both his knees pinned in place before he was 1.5 years old… 2 major surgeries 6 months apart. The past 4 years have been a fine line of letting him enjoy playing ball off lead time…being a dog and always managing his knees. 6 months ago he definitely tweaked the left and it’s been a strict lead only walks and caution since then. It finally let go and he ruptured his cruciate ligament and tore his MCL Zeke saw how much I enjoyed my recovery time at home he thought he might try out ceramics also. Just needs to cut his nails and stop sleeping so much. Teddy leg update 😢 Sadly the situation worsened today. This morning, Teddy being the bichon that he is chased after a cat worsening his poor leg. He's now not able to put pressure on his right back leg. We got him straight to the vets who informed us his cruciate ligament tear as well as patellar luxation and he will need surgery. I spent all morning crying but I need to be strong for him now and little Honey who was worried about her big brother. Right now Teddy is resting beside me which I hope he will do for the night His surgery is set for next Friday, we'll keep everyone updated how he's getting on. Maisie’s vet has identified an issue with both of her cruciate ligaments (CCL), and has recommended a TPLO surgery to correct. She also has mild hip dysplasia, and arthritis starting in both her knees and her hips as a result of both issues. Maisie came down with a sudden limp in September last year, and at the time the vet suspected it was just a strain and recommended bedrest and pain meds. It lasted for several weeks, but eventually did clear up. A little over two weeks ago, the limp came back after a very normal (but excitable) romp with some other dogs, so we decided to take her for X-Rays. We’re glad we know what the issue is now, but feeling a little daunted by what’s ahead. Due to student loans, extortionate visa fees, and other various “life things”, we’ve only just come out of a place where we were living paycheck to paycheck. Our insurance isn’t great and won’t get us that far, but we should be able to at least get her worse leg operated on this year and go from there. Send Maisie all your well wishes please! A common knee injury we see in dogs all too often is tearing of their Cranial Cruciate Ligament "CCL". The CCL in humans is known as the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Most dogs with this injury will not bear weight on the injured leg as it is very painful and unstable. If left untreated the instability in the knee joint can cause damage to the cartilage and surrounding bones in the knee, ultimately leading to development of osteoarthritis. When the CCL is torn, surgical stabilisation of the knee joint is usually required, especially in young, active or large breed dogs. We recommend surgery as soon as possible to reduce permanent, irreversible joint damage and to relieve pain. Saara, pictured here, recently underwent a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) to stabilise her knee in the strongest method possible by use of a metal plate. The TPLO surgery is offered at Heathmont Animal Hospital with an external specialist surgeon. Saara has been making amazing post surgery progress due to wonderful 'pawrents' caring for her and making sure she attends her hydrotherapy sessions! January has definitely lived up to it's expectations and Max is booked in for TPLO surgery next month 😥 even though his right leg still isn't great his left leg has been getting progressively worse. The vet confirmed he has now fully torn his left cruciate ligament. It's a different surgeon who did his previous surgery, she specialises in TPLO surgery and doesn't do the cruciate ligament replacement surgery he had on his right leg. When he's under anesthetic she will have a look at the right leg and may operate on it again if she can. I'm really hoping she can so he hasn't got to go through this a third time 😭 and we haven't got to keep finding thousands of £££ for surgery! Thank goodness for pet insurance! Efter 4 operationer i knæet, indlæggelser pga infektion og med udsigten til endnu en operation, er vi gået max ind på genoptræningen. Jeg er kun glad for at kunne stille min hjælp og vejledning til rådighed og så er det jo altid rart at have en træningsmakker 😁 Nu sætter jeg endnu mere pris på at vores træningsrum er næsten færdigt. Hun bor 500 m fra mig, så der er ikke megen spildtid på transport. (Og så er der jo lere tid til at træne snakketøjet 🫣) På den ene side er jeg imponeret over hvad vi kan få lavet igennem vores sundhedsvæsen, men samtidig er jeg også chokeret over at hun gik grædende med et monster hævet knæ og smerter i 4 uger, før de fandt ud af hun havde en bakterie i knæet efter operationen.😬 Jeg krydser fingre for at hun ikke skal have fjernet arvæv i knæet. Archie Fuzz 🐾 Another dog on rehab round 2 this week - Archie the terrier ruptured a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), a ligament in the stifle (knee) joint in 2022, and was successfully rehabbed with a combination of physio and hydro following surgical repair. 12 months later... the little monkey managed to do a number on himself and ruptured the CCL on the other hindlimb. Unfortunately, this is a fairly common occurrence - studies have found that around 50% of dogs will experience damage to both CCL's at some point in their lifetime, often in a fairly short space of time. 🥰❤️Our boy had a ANOTHER operation 🤦🏻♀️ few weeks ago in his back leg he ruptured his cruciate ligament and had a operation over the last few week he being going hydrotherapy and doing loads better but last week I took him for a walk and he now done the same to his other leg😭😭 had a operation on Monday and doing great. Vandaag zijn de sterke pijnstillers uit het dierenziekenhuis duidelijk uitgewerkt 😅 Ik blijf eigenlijk heel netjes van m'n wond af, maar als ze me even alleen laten gaat toch voor de zekerheid de kap er even om.
