Coming to you with a new make (while a stack of old makes are still waiting for the grid) I made this skirt recently and today I picked it up and tried some tips with it. Today I’m going for double animal print, zebra on the skirt and leopard on the shirt. I am actually not sure what pattern this is because it’s just one pattern piece that was with my patterns but it didn’t say which pattern… I can tell you it’s cut on the bias and the top is bound with bias tape with an elastic run trough. Such a simple make with great effect! One project I’m SUPER excited to sew this summer is the #seamworkkari romper! ⭐️ The funny thing is, I don’t think I would have chosen this project if it weren’t for the design process of #designyourwardrobe. I’ve always liked it, but would it have risen to the very top of my sewing queue? I’m not sure. But as I went through the process, I realized: 🌈 I have a vintage romper that I already love to wear, so I’d probably wear this a lot. 🌈 It would look really great in the fabric palette I’ve chosen. 🌈 I already have fabric in my stash to use! There’s so many little sentences from tv, music and pop culture I really want to put on a shirt. But how many shirts does one actually need? I figured one can never have too many white shirts. Especially when it’s in a super soft bamboo, and I made the letters navy so it’s quite versatile. When you so carefully think about what to make a previous fabric into, even pick a pattern you have made before, even in the same fabric type. And you still end up with something you don’t quite love. I’m not sure what it is about this dress, but something is just a little off with the shape. I don’t get it, it’s like the bodice is too short, but I never had this problem with the 3 versions of the @fridaypatterncompany #fpcdavenportdress I made before. My third Donny shirt. The love is real. This one is a long time coming. I've thought about a mixed chambray (from scraps) for quite some time. But it was the delight of sewing a Donny that made it happen. Hopefully it doesn't look too much like PJs coz I keep getting that vibe from the first photo. Another item off my DYW making plan! Typically when I’ve wardrobe planned in the past I’ve been very big ideas huge lists. And while I know it’s okay to not follow through it always left me feeling a bit disappointed in myself. This go around my list was 4 items long with the idea that it would build into summer plans. I think this has made it feel more approachable and I’m feeling more motivated to actually accomplish my making goals. Anyways on to the make! This is the #SeamworkLito dress. I didn’t make any huge mods to the pattern other than doing a bound neckline and removing 2” for my height. I was a bit worried that it was too short when I finished but this fabric relaxes enough while wearing that it doesn’t feel too short anymore. I did size down one after looking at finished measures and other people’s makes. I feel like baggier tshirt dresses feel night gown-y on me and that wasn’t the look I was going for. The fabric is a dreamy cotton/hemp/yak blend that was def a more expensive fabric for me but absolutely worth it. This dress is going to be on repeat all spring and summer! YeeHaa! Yes yes yes! What a perfect refashion. So I'd bought this fabric for a shirt originally but made a Caladium jumpsuit instead. I really never wore it, maybe a handful of times in 3 yrs. When I discovered how little fabric the Donny shirt takes I immediately thought of refashioning it to it's original intention. And I was right. It's perfect. I had to piece the back and lost about 15mm in width. I managed to lengthen only the front by 2.5cm and the back yoke is pieced but I pattern matched almost seamlessly. I added the gingham to the collar and the hem to keep the length. The pocket label is the bottom half of Sew Comfy, just showing the sofa. Inside is Pretty Guts label, although no flat felled were done as desired as I couldn't get any more SA from my fabric. Now I really need weather to wear these Donnys before making more to test the fit as trying on and wearing are two different things. Come in weather, I have at least another two planned! The Donny shirt. Like everyone else, I love it. Such a quick sew. I love making shirts but this has the blessing of it's speed. I did a high round back as always but waited to see if I needed a fwd shoulder. I could do a slight angle on the line bringing the sleeve side fwd but the neckline is good. @seamsabitmuch was right in me probably wanting to lengthen it but I'd cut it out already. So I added a facing to preserve as much length as possible only using 5mm at the hem. It's now the perfect length for me. It was a conscious decision to not try to match the front, but I did hope the pattern would be more forgiving. I now wish I'd spent the time looking at it. For a pattern with no darts I am in love with the fit of this shirt. It will definitely get made again. Probably with the facing as it's a nice finish. I'll probably increase the SA to allow flat felled seams too as I love pretty guts and think shirts deserve flat felled. An unintended side effect of doing the @seamwork #designyourwardrobe workshop is that I am crushing my WIP pile! I told myself I at least had to wrap up a few things before I started on spring sewing (see fabric on the right all ready to go), and I've finished up 7 things since then (all minor, for the most part), and decided probably about that same amount didn't excite me any more and they got the kibosh. Four things left, and I might get my list down to zero this weekend!
