Wine Discoveries @lodi_wine and chocolate 2024: I love to hit up the winemakers’ toast at Wine and Roses during the Wine and Chocolate weekend. All the participating wineries are in 1 location and there are plenty of snacks to keep you going. The wineries are pouring whites, rosès and bubbles which is perfect for the Sunday brunch time slot. Last year my great wine find was the Blanc de Noir from @intercoastalvineyards and this year I found a few other wineries that I have yet to visit. @priewinery has been on my bucket list to visit for quite a while but after today’s tasting, I will be making it a point to get to the tasting room. Their skin contact Picpoul Blanc was the highlight of the day. Coming in at 9% abv it is a perfect lunchtime quaff. Their unfiltered rosè was also quite refreshing. Rescue Dog Wines was another great discovery. Their Blanc de Blancs was superb as was their Sauvignon Blanc which was more of a Sancerre style. They don’t have a tasting room but their wines can be purchased at the Lodi Visitor Center @wineandroseslodi. As you can see from the pic, 50% of profits go to rescue dog organizations. Great cause!!! @rescuedogwines @christophercellars and @anayawines also had fantastic wines which I unfortunately forgot to snap pics of bc I was too engaged in conversation. Both are worth a try. Wine For The Weekend 😋 🥂 Beaujolais Nouveau Day is marked in France on the third Thursday in November with fireworks, music and festivals. Under French law, the wine is released at 12:01 a.m., just weeks after the wine's grapes have been harvested to celebrate the first wine of the season and as a hint to how the more serious wines of the vintage may eventually turn out. France’s Beaujolais [boh-zhuh-LAY] region was long ago deemed the best place to grow Gamay grapes. Beaujolais farmers first celebrated the harvest in the 19th century. Beaujolais Nouveau should be drunk as soon as possible, is meant to be enjoyed young, and often benefits from a slight chill as the wine is fermented for only a few weeks. This makes it a ‘nouveau’, a wine harvested for sale in the same year. Some people even say if you drink it in the same year it was harvested, it will bring good luck to you in the New Year. Above all else, Beaujolais Nouveau is a celebration of newness! It is an opportunity to toast the memory of the harvest in a spirit of renewal and regeneration. Most local wine shops will have these bottles (with gaudy labels - easy to find!) and may sell fast at a reasonable price as it is an annual tradition for many wine enthusiasts, even if the wine is not as good as they may drink on a regular basis. Think I found my Thanksgiving wine for this year!!!!! We were at our Friday Blind tasting last night and had tasted several of the usual reds and then this wine was poured✨✨✨ So refreshing! Slight spritz in the mouth and all the cranberry and tart red fruit flavors. I initially thought it might be a Gamay but was pleased to find out it was Cinsault from the #bechtholdvineyard in Lodi. This Zinfandel is excellent!! Exactly what it should taste like!! Not overly ripe and jammy, but light and dare I say it “refreshing!” That’s right, a refreshing Zin!! Many thanks to the staff (Jeremy) at the Lodi Visitor Center @wineandroseslodi for suggesting this bottle. This is one of my favorite places to taste, not only for the number of available wines, but this is the only place pouring some of these labels as many are small boutique wineries without formal tasting rooms. We love visiting Jessie’s Grove for so many reasons: the history, the Oak Grove, the animals, the live music, and most of all, the 𝕎𝕀ℕ𝔼! When your craving for a cold glass of Rosé hits this weekend, make sure to head on down to the newly updated Tasting Room and beautiful outdoor pavilion at the Grove. Special highlight to our Las Cerezas Vineyard Albariño as we officially entered the summer yesterday! Las Cerezas Vineyard is our small 3-acre organic vineyard in the backyard of the Bokisch's house on Cherry Road ('Cerezas' means Cherries in Spanish). What makes this vineyard so special is that it is the “Motherblock" for the Bokisch Spanish varieties. Markus imported budwood from select vineyards in Spain and became the pioneer in successfully planting Albariño in the Lodi Appellation. Come to our Tasting Room to taste it on our menu this weekend!
