Someone must take responsibility to reveal the shocking truth about how innocent plants are raised and killed in plant farms. I am not advocating for monoculture and chemical fertilizers and pesticides based industrial agriculture which entails clearing huge swathes of rainforest, destroying biodiversity, and so on. I am all for less invasive forms of agriculture that minimise land use and preserve biodiversity. However, given the fact that this is the food system currently providing for us, it's important to note that more than 3/4th of the world's agricultural land is used as pasture and dedicated to growing feed for the animals. Nearly half of global deforestation and all these plant deaths are attributed to raising and eating animals. So if we really care about the suffering of plants, the only logical thing to do is TO BE VEGAN. 🌱

REA39_BALIKA: Rammed Earth Construction Will Rammed Earth walls wash away in the rain? No, this will not happen. Rammed earth walls can withstand various environmental conditions. While rain can impact the surface of RE walls, particularly when they are newly compacted and not cured, it generally does not wash them away. In fact, rainfall and sunshine help the walls to become stronger over time once it is fully cured (Eyeson 2023). We built several RE walls since 2019 without the application of any hydrophobic coatings for research purposes and observed its response to weathering. Ranging from different wall thicknesses to variations of no reinforcements to bamboo and/or steel rebar reinforcements with different mix ratios. All of the samples are left exposed to sun and rain. It withstood the test of time: the sustained Alfonso Cavite precipitation, high humidity, and an all-day sun exposure left no visible damage to the RE walls except to a few crumbled corners and edges where fine aggregates can easily get scratched due to its porous nature. The density of compacted dirt along with the right soil mix and tamping techniques ensured the wall’s durability. Let us start changing the way we LIVE. Rethink how we design our Built Environment. The bigger the development, the more it equates to a dreadful consumption of concrete and other finite resources. Earth has proved once more the astounding benefit of the world’s greatest building materials. This significant reduction on dead load can then be converted to lesser structural cost. Truly awesome!
