That was a fun event up here in Campbell River for the Daybreak Rotary Club! The Blue Aura Lemonade was a hit. It's a beautifully crafted cocktail showcasing the essence of the Cowichan Valley. Made with @merridalecider and disillery's Cowichan Blueberry Liqueur, a lemon lavender lemonade, a fresh sliced lemon wheel, and topped with Cowichan Aura Gin; all to simulate a sunset over the ocean. Portrait of a tree. I've always been amazed by the resilience of the trees that decide to plant their roots in the alpine. This conifer stands tall near the summit of Mt Cokely and has somehow managed to survive decades of drought, wind, sun, snow, frost, and all other manners of environmental abuse. I had the pleasure of capturing its resilience last weekend in near whiteout conditions. There were no views or grand vistas, but the conditions allowed me to really isolate and focus on the subject. The second image attempts to show a closeup of the original to give a feel for the textured snow and frost covering this wind blown tree. The details captured on large format film are hard to represent on the screen of a digital device. WILDLIFE WONDERS WEDNESDAY: HOW MUCH FOOD DOES A HUMPBACK EAT? ㅤ A lot! Until recently, we thought that a typical 45-ton humpback gulps between 1.5 and 2 tons of krill or small schooling fish daily. But recent research suggests we should be tripling that number to a mind-boggling 6 tons. That’s the weight of an adult elephant! In a way, humpbacks and other baleen whales are gardeners of the sea.
