Founded in 1997, @mujeresdemaiz (MdM) is an Indigenous Xicana–led spiritual artivist organization and movement by and for women and feminists of color. amber_rose_go @feevaone and @nadiazepeda_ have put together a beautiful anthology that chronicles MdM’s quarter-century-long herstory. The book features 40 entries including academic essays, testimonios, and poetry as well as 20 works of art in color. Contributors fuse stories of celebration, love, and spirit-work with an incisive critique of interlocking oppressions, both intimate and structural, encouraging movement toward “a world where many worlds fit.” The multidisciplinary, intergenerational, and critical-creative nature of the project coupled with the unique subject matter makes the book a must-have for high school and college students, activist-scholars, artists, community organizers, and others invested in social justice and liberation. Join us for a BOOK Talk hosted by the Ethnic Studies Dept. at @chaffeycollege on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 2:30-4PM (WH-112) at the Rancho campus. This free event features MdM writers, artwork, poetry, and book signings. Books will be available for purchase and a few will be given away to those who attend. The family-friendly event is open to the public. My toolkit of reading resources has arrived. Yay! My moment of deep despair in early June shook me to my core. It opened my eyes to how precious it is to nourish our energetic life force. When I lost my will to live, I knew I had strayed much too far from who I am and was suffering from imbalance and fatigue. My dissertation work has been feeling exceptionally timely and I’m finding my way back to my studies to finish school by the end of the year. I’ve taken 2 leaves of absence because work and caretaking was all I could manage. Thank goodness leaves of absence are an option. Investigating the important role of spirituality and healing has me looking at how Gloria Anzaldua discusses soul work. Turning to feminists of color as my wisdom guides has never failed me. Sandeep Juahar’s book on Alzheimer’s is a key read for me as my father’s health condition shifts into a new phase. Lindsay Gibsons book on dealing with emotionally immature parents will help me maintain my sanity. Feeling relief already having the books 📚 in my hands. Also picked up a cognitive behavioral therapy book to accompany the spiritual counseling I’ll be receiving. ❤️🙏🏽❤️ I’m entering an entirely new way of being. The demand on my energy are many, and I need to calibrate, balance, and nourish. Despair is an insightful teacher. I am very grateful it was a short visit. One that is changing the pace and path of my life. #slowdown #selfcare #feministsofcolor #alzheimersawareness #immatureparents #cbt

At Dream Big Wellness we strive to see our privilege, and consistently evaluate our own blindspots in order to continue to better our practice. We acknowledge the many health impacts that exist from racial and cultural trauma, the harm that has been done from medical systems towards the black community, and the gap in equitable care that often exists. Close the care gap! Happy Juneteenth may the world continue to heal. May we all do the work of healing to change the world we live in. #juneteenth #equitydiversityinclusion #blacklivesmatter #Nonprofit #dreambigwellness #arttherapy #therapy #closethecaregap #accessibility #octaviabutler #mygrandmothershands #rossgaypoet #thebookofdelights #theparableofthesower #thisbridgecalledmyback #feministsofcolor #supportblackownedbusinesses #supportblackartists

Dear female leader, changemaker - if you are anything like me, you feel the impact of geopolitical events very deeply in your body. You see and hear the boardroom dynamics and feel it has if its happening to your own body, and then your body takes over and find yourself in familiar adaptive strategies - have an emotional outburst at home, or dissociate or take control of what we can. Many times, when we see systemic justice issues, it triggers a sense of powerlessness. Here is the thing - if we want to expand our ability to stay in our bodies through conflicts in the boardroom or as changemakers we must expand our ability to stay in our bodies and experience pleasure. Because power and pleasure are two sides of the same coin. Intrigued ? Want to redefine yourself in the bedroom so you can show up more powerfully in the boardroom and in parenting ? Book your free 15 minute consultation with me and lets talk.

Honored when @mariaochoaphotowriter asked to take my portrait and suggested doing so at the hella feminist exhibit. I first met Dr. Ochoa when she was my Women’s studies professor at SJSU. I would get to take three classes with her and she became a mentor and friend. For years she invited me to SJSU to lecture about Asian American women body image and eating disorders which was my final college project. #womenstudies #hellafeminist #womensupportingwomen #feministsofcolor #hiphopfeminism #bayarea #contentmatters #communityfirst #hellafamous

When my college mentor and friend Dr. Maria Ochoa invited me to see the hella feminist exhibit at @oaklandmuseumca it was a no brainer, hell yes. What a beautiful day reuniting and enjoying such powerful showing of feminist art and history. The folks from ICA in San Jose recognized me from performing at Chopsticks Alley Asian American month event in May. Thanks James. I was dragging on my trip up here so just for old times sake I was drinking coffee at Powder Face at Fruitvale Station. Back in the day it was lowkey my office when I needed to be in Oakland but I was early or other people were late. I would buy coffee and loiter on the patio. 🤣❤️ #hellafeminist #oakland #womenofcolor #feministsofcolor #reunion #artivism #womensrightsarehumanrights #contentmatters #communityfirst #hellafamous

What If Feminism Was The $? Is now live.... it will be on Spotify early next week but it is live on Youtube, Pandora, Itunes and more. Streaming links live at www.hellafamous.com this amazing art was such a joy because I got to collaborate with @spiscesart who brought my poem to life with her signature style of fun meets substance. As a poet I will never release a poetry book. As a young person I got clowned for a lot of shit including my voice, they used to say “why do you sound like that?” Youthful insecurities had me wondering if I would fail as an artist because I didnt sound like “anyone” grown me knows I sound like me and Im HELLA famous. #streaming #womenshistorymonth #woc #feministsofcolor #spokenword #artivism #bayarea #asianamericanartist #womensupportingwomen #contentmatters #communityfirst #hellafamous

#waybackwednesday Spring 2017 giving a lecture about Asian American women and body image/eating disorders. This was my final project to graduate from SJSU. Forever grateful to one of my college mentors and friends Dr. Maria Ochoa for supporting me and this research and inviting me for YEARS to her Intro To Women’s studies class and letting me give this presentation for the entire session. What people never understand is I would give this lecture and then be back at my day jobs in food where everyone wanted to “speak to my manager” when I wasnt “nice enough” people really talk to me like Im hella dumb. Its not my go to in life but my friends have enjoyed watching me destroy people. #sjsu #lecturer #womensstudies #doubleeyelidsurgery #doubleeyelid #asianwomen #bodyimage #woc #feministsofcolor #contentmatters #communityfirst #hellafamous

♀️ Today is International Women’s Day. Officially recognized by the United Nations since 1977, this day celebrates the achievements and advancements made by women while calling out and challenging inequality around the world. This year's theme is “Break The Bias” which envisions a gender-equal world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive and is free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. If you’re committed to combatting gender bias, discrimination, and stereotyping, you’re encouraged to strike the “break the bias pose’ and cross your arms in solidarity. To participate, share your BreakTheBias image, video, resources, presentations, or articles on social media using #IWD2022 / #BreakTheBias to encourage people to commit to helping create an inclusive world.
