Thursday in the village is the Christmas party and we heard Christmas music all day long 🎄🎅🏼 We made sure to grab a pic with Santa & afterwards each kid (including wish siblings) could pick out a toy- so much fun!! The horse carriage ride had a lift on the back to get Levi up in his stroller - something I am sure we will never see again! We did another day at the village to swim, check out the arcade firetruck (again, once in a lifetime ride for Levi). That night after the party, Princess Evergreen came to tuck in the kiddos. Levi was pretty tired but still chatty flirting as she put him to bed 😂😍 A lot of first and maybe only times that Levi experienced this week - unlimited carousel rides with his sisters & touching an alligator! 🐊 As we return home and look back on the week we only become more thankful for the time we had and so sad that it’s over 😭 #christmasinapril #gktwvillage #gktw #epilepsyawareness #lennoxgastautsyndrome #makeawish #carriagerides #santaclaus

DREAM REPORT: Riley DREAM CAPTAINS: Amanda Niethammer, Beth Milam Riley is an amazing and spunky teenager that we had the pleasure of working with. She has a great love for all things Disney, taking care of and showing her sheep, and spending time with her family. Riley defied the odds after being diagnosed with a brain tumor as a toddler. She recently was diagnosed with a second type of brain tumor, but she does not let that get in her way of her love for life! She had been to Disney World as a child, but did not remember it because she was so young. Her dream was to go back and make new memories with her family. Through the Dream Connection and @GiveKidsTheWorld, Riley, her mom, dad, older sister, and little brother returned to Disney World for an action-packed week! Riley’s mom said, "She had the best time, and they met every princess while they were there! Some of her bucket list items that she checked off were riding a roller coaster, her favorite being Slinky Dog, and eating beignets for the first time, which she told us all about prior to going to Disney." We are so thankful that we could do this small thing for Riley and her sweet family, and even more thankful to see some of their sweet memories made! 🎊 Happy Founder's Day to the creator of @gktwvillage 🎊 Like the special children Give Kids The World Village serves, its founder, Henri Landwirth, a holocaust survivor, knew all too well what it was like to give up childhood. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, on March 7, 1927, Henri and his family were separated and became prisoners in the Nazi death and labor camps during World War II. Henri spent the years between the ages of 13 and 18 in camps, including Auschwitz and Mauthausen. By war’s end, both of his parents had been killed but, miraculously, Henri and his twin sister, Margot, survived and were reunited. Despite the nightmare he endured, this incredible man set out to make a difference and created a place where critically ill children can enjoy childhood without the worry of accessibility and doctors. Where families can simply enjoy being a family and making magical memories together. He is truly inspiring! My hope is to help make a difference for this magical place in my sweet boy's memory. Even now, the best memories that stick out in one's mind are the ones that managed to strike a chord with us in one way or another, showing the most moments where we pour our hearts and souls into what we do. This still rings true with me when I took part in @gktwvillage's #gingerbreadrun5k last month and not only ran and strolled along the entire village but also met the many wonderful faces and volunteers that made the magic on the village resort possible for all the Wish Children that are suffering from life-threatening medical conditions possible (allowing them and their families to experience the joy and happiness ripped away from them by hospital visits and medical examinations). This included characters such as Rugby and Reme, Kailey the Penguin, and a G4 #mlppony named #twinklehope who's the forerunner of her own spa in it. Daniel (17y/o) & I went #OverTheEdge for @gktwvillage! It was exciting, scary, and for my health reasons, was painful (but SO worth it). I felt “brave” doing it (& extraordinarily grateful for the opportunity), but it was nothing when compared to the bravery shown by the families who visit Give Kids The World Village. I get teary eyed just about every time I volunteer there because my child is healthy. We (Matt & I) are NOT parents whose child or children are facing a life-threatening illness. May people who stop to read this be inspired to support the mission of #GKTW, and to maybe step out of their comfort zone. Our hearts are full and our bodies are tired. We spent the last week in Florida celebrating Elliot on his Make a Wish trip. When we feel the world is so big, we are reminded of how we’re all connected, even in a completely different country. Both of our flights there and back had integral people on the boys team on them, friends, and another wish family. Our first breakfast we bumped into friends we made in Calgary while the boys had their BMTs. Talking to a volunteer one night at Give Kids the World and found out she also had 3 kids that share a diagnosis and it was a wonderful chat of camaraderie. We spent our days at Disney, Universal Studios and Legoland. We rode our first roller coaster, hugged princesses and Mickey, drove cars, watched fireworks, drank Butterbeer, watched Indiana Jones stunts, rode through a safari, and got held up by Storm Troopers. One of Elliot’s many highlights was meeting Blue the velociraptor from Jurassic Park. The evenings were spent at Give Kids the World. Give Kids the World is a truly magical place. The volunteers that give of their time make it such a special place. We had ice cream for lunch, rode the carousel a minimum of 32 times, visited with Mayor Clayton, rode a horse, played mini-golf and in the arcade, saw Santa, ate chicken nuggets everyday, held a crocodile, and were just cared for so well. Early in the week, Elliot discovered that he could order a custom pizza just for him. Every night, he ordered a cheese pizza without sauce. It completely made his week.
