This past weekend, the Village celebrated 5,000,000 volunteer hours! We invited our volunteers out to the Park of Dreams to have some fun in the sun, enjoy delicious food, get a sketch from artist Dirk Wunderlich and even have the chance to put our CEO and President Pam Landwirth in the dunk tank! This was the perfect kickoff for National Volunteer week which is from April 21 though April 27. In order to keep the good times going for our volunteers, we are celebrating them every day this week! Thursday in the village is the Christmas party and we heard Christmas music all day long 🎄🎅🏼 We made sure to grab a pic with Santa & afterwards each kid (including wish siblings) could pick out a toy- so much fun!! The horse carriage ride had a lift on the back to get Levi up in his stroller - something I am sure we will never see again! We did another day at the village to swim, check out the arcade firetruck (again, once in a lifetime ride for Levi). That night after the party, Princess Evergreen came to tuck in the kiddos. Levi was pretty tired but still chatty flirting as she put him to bed 😂😍 A lot of first and maybe only times that Levi experienced this week - unlimited carousel rides with his sisters & touching an alligator! 🐊 As we return home and look back on the week we only become more thankful for the time we had and so sad that it’s over 😭 #christmasinapril #gktwvillage #gktw #epilepsyawareness #lennoxgastautsyndrome #makeawish #carriagerides #santaclaus
Day 3- GKTW village day There is so much I could say about the village. The way it feels like a tiny town community that makes everything easy for Levi, the focus on wish kids, the abundance of activities so everyone has something to do! They have character visits, horseback riding, parties each night, two pools, four rides & an unlimited arcade room. Plus mini golf, trains & a sensory / gaming room. I think Levi’s favorite part was the big accessible swing tho!! His laugh and smile made me tear up 😅🥰 Each kid has a star making ceremony & viewing. Their star is placed in the Castle of Miracles and will be there forever. There are over 188,000 stars and Levi’s has a special place we can come back and see. I wrote his name a little shaky after the emotional ceremony and he added a little lightning bolt for his epilepsy - to remember even with a rare disease and every day being a battle we have hope and we fight on ⚡️⚡️⚡️ #lennoxgastautsyndrome #epilepsy #gktwvillage #makeawish #castleofmiracles #horsebackriding #accessibility #disabilityawareness
Day 2– Animal Kingdom 🦒 This was the park I was most excited about for Levi! He listens to his lion king tonie every day and for Levi that consistency means he really loves it! He LOVED the safari ride (the bumps) and avatar Navi river was great for his CVI - the dark with glowing lights is perfect for him. Doing one character dining was on our bucket list to have memories for ourselves of Levi meeting the characters even if he doesn’t necessarily understand. I will say he did react to some way better than I thought he would. Something about them being huge and in his face 🤭 The lion king show VIP meeting after was so fun and once in a lifetime!!! Levi is a dare devil and loved flying high on the triceratops 👏🏻👏🏻 Back at the village each night has a theme so we joined in on the Halloween party where the girls played games & went trick or treating 🎃 #animalkingdom #disneywishtrip #gktwvillage #makeawish #epilepsyawareness #lionking

Wish Trip 💫Day 1 - travel: 4:45am pick up! Make a wish partners with Southwest Airlines & let me tell you they were so great. Found us when we got to the gates had gifts for the kids, walked us on the plane first & even carried our bags 😅 With all the medical equipment and trauma from past flights lugging everything by myself with one adult this was a dream! We arrived to the village around 1:30pm and went to lunch. The dining hall is great with small chairs (everything centers around the wish kid!) and the volunteers are wonderful offering to carry my tray when I push Levi 🥰 Our villa is in Banyan Park which is the newest apartment like style building. We saw the playground & pool for a bit and called it a night after some ice cream 🍦A 17 hour day meant we all were so tired and off to sleep 😴 Cannot wait to share more about GKTW village and how great it all is…. Last week we were fortunate enough to host Crops of Luv, an incredible volunteer group that creates personalized scrapbooks for our wish families. Although the group was founded in 2007 - and has created 4,000 scrapbooks - many of the Crops of Luv volunteers had never visited the Village. During their visit, more than 20 volunteers created 25 scrapbooks and met with families, staff, and other volunteers in a magical week that culminated with a Tea Party. Today is International Women’s Day and as we join in celebrating the achievements of women across the world, we’d like to spotlight our own President & CEO, Pamela Landwirth ✨ Pamela has been part of Give Kids The World since 1992 and has served as President and CEO since 1995. Under Pamela’s leadership, virtually every aspect of the Village has been transformed. The Village more than doubled in size, from 32 acres to 89 acres; the number of villas grew from 56 to 166; more than a dozen new venues and attractions have been added, including Julie’s Safari Theatre, Matthew’s Boundless Playground, the Amberville Train Station, and Towne Hall. In addition, volunteer shifts have grown from 421 to more than 1,800 per week, and the number of families who visit the Village each year has grown from 3,949 in 1995 to nearly 9,000 today. Pamela dedication to the mission is fueled by a passion and sense of purpose to create the happiness that inspires hope for each of those families. 🎊 Happy Founder's Day to the creator of @gktwvillage 🎊 Like the special children Give Kids The World Village serves, its founder, Henri Landwirth, a holocaust survivor, knew all too well what it was like to give up childhood. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, on March 7, 1927, Henri and his family were separated and became prisoners in the Nazi death and labor camps during World War II. Henri spent the years between the ages of 13 and 18 in camps, including Auschwitz and Mauthausen. By war’s end, both of his parents had been killed but, miraculously, Henri and his twin sister, Margot, survived and were reunited. Despite the nightmare he endured, this incredible man set out to make a difference and created a place where critically ill children can enjoy childhood without the worry of accessibility and doctors. Where families can simply enjoy being a family and making magical memories together. He is truly inspiring! My hope is to help make a difference for this magical place in my sweet boy's memory. Even now, the best memories that stick out in one's mind are the ones that managed to strike a chord with us in one way or another, showing the most moments where we pour our hearts and souls into what we do. This still rings true with me when I took part in @gktwvillage's #gingerbreadrun5k last month and not only ran and strolled along the entire village but also met the many wonderful faces and volunteers that made the magic on the village resort possible for all the Wish Children that are suffering from life-threatening medical conditions possible (allowing them and their families to experience the joy and happiness ripped away from them by hospital visits and medical examinations). This included characters such as Rugby and Reme, Kailey the Penguin, and a G4 #mlppony named #twinklehope who's the forerunner of her own spa in it.
