The Highmark Walk is coming up in just a few days, and it's time to meet our Team Leaders. Today we feature Penelope (Penny) and Pippa, miniature horse sisters who live with Program Director Christina Coxe. Click through to view photos and learn a little more about these Mobile Mini Outreach ambassadors. Our next post will share a video of the girls enjoying some downtime at home. Team Penelope: Penelope ("Penny," for short) is one of the newest members of our miniature horse brigade and is a Pet Partners certified therapy horse. She and her sister, Pippa, live with Equi-librium's Program Director, Christina, and happily hop in the trailer to lend a hand (or hoof!) to visit groups in the community. Penny loves to look fancy and wears braids and flowers in her hair when she's out and about! Team Pippa: Pippa is one of the newest members of our miniature horse team, and has quickly found her niche visiting schools. She and her sister, Penny, live with Equi-librium's Program Director, Christina, and were rescued through Last Chance Ranch. Meet Equi-librium’s Highmark Walk team leaders! When you register for the walk, you can join or donate to Team Penelope, Team Pippa, or Team Star at http://hcf.convio.net/equi-librium. Each of these tiny horses is a member of our Mobile Mini Horse Outreach Program, and brings comfort, connection, healing, and joy to members of our community who cannot come to the farm. We’ll be posting pictures and videos of each of our furry team leaders in the coming days, but today we’re sharing more about the good work they do. Where might you find a mini therapy horse? ~ Hospitals: Minis make their rounds for patient visits, bringing a soothing, loving presence to aid recovery. ~ Schools and libraries: Minis help build confidence, social and communication skills, and can even facilitate learning. ~ Reading with Minis: Mini therapy horses act as patient, attentive listeners for young children who aren’t comfortable reading aloud to teachers or adults. ~ Airports, college campuses, family court, first responder teams: Anxious about flying? Worried about finals week? Visits from mini therapy horses help reduce anxiety and bring comfort in times of stress. ~ Community & senior centers, veterans’ groups, assisted living: For those who want a joyful connection with animals and the natural world or those who prefer to sit quietly and share a moment of calm. In honor of our Mobile Mini Horse Outreach Program, our 2022 team leaders are small, fuzzy, and sure to warm your heart! When you register for the walk, you can choose to join or donate to Team Star, Team Penelope, or Team Pippa. Starting this week, we will be sharing pictures and videos of these three minis, as well as links to join or donate to their individual teams.
