The Ultimate Pumpkin Pie (Recipe adapted from @sallysbakeblog) Of all the pumpkin pie recipes I’ve tried, I really think this one is my favorite. I’ve tweaked the filling a bit, added an extra bit of this and a little bit more of that and even added a dash or two of something extra and the result was spot on!! The candied cranberries and whip cream adds a nice decorative touch especially when the pie has a few cracks (I probably didn’t need to cook the pie the extra 5 minutes 😉). In the end, the pie was demolished! Success either way! Nothing says slow Summer like homemade Strawberry Shortcake. Today is the first day of pick-your-own strawberries at our local farm but the farm stands around us have slowly been rolling out quarts of strawberries which is where I got these beauties for this delicious dessert. After paging through my aunts old cookbook filled with family recipes written in handwriting from my other aunts, I decided to get a few vintage cookbooks, some I would say are historic. Most of them date back to the 1930’s like pre-pectin in jams. Be on the lookout for jam posts after todays strawberry picking adventure. Cooking, baking and preserving food have become lost skills as convenience has taken over. I have been pouring over the cookbooks on how to prepare our pantry, I’m looking forward to preparing our pantry and freezer this Summer to provide for our family come the colder months.
