A tes côtés Je l’ai trouvé la, tapi dans un coin, il pleurait à l’abri des regards. Je suis d’abord resté en retrait, voir s’il se calmait, mais ses larmes ont redoublé d’intensité. Je lui ai fait savoir que j’étais là, je voulais le prendre dans mes bras, le câliner, le rassurer, lui dire que tout allait bien se passer. Mais comment pourrais je affirmer ça sans connaître le fond du problème ? Entre nous il y avait une sorte d’incompréhension et de pudeur. Je ne le comprenais pas toujours. Parfois il parlait une langue que je ne connaissais pas. Ses comportements aussi me questionnaient. Il agissait comme un enfant de 5 ans, insouciant, sans prendre aucune précaution pour rien. Comme s’il ne risquait pas de se blesser, de se faire avoir par quelqu’un de mal intentionné, comme s’il pensait vivre au pays des bisounours. Je voulais lui dire de faire attention à lui, de garder certaines distances, de se protéger au moins un peu. Je l’aurais bien emballé de force dans du papier bulle pour le préserver de la dureté de la vie mais il aimait se montrer fort et brave. « J’ai peur de rien » répétait-il sans cesse, « je suis invincible » pensait-il tout haut quand il s’élançait vers de nouvelles aventures. En réalité il était pas aussi solide qu’il l’aurait voulu. La preuve, aujourd’hui je l’ai trouvé là, tapi dans un coin, pleurant toutes les larmes de son corps. J’ai laissé tomber la pudeur et les discours moralisateurs et je lui ai ouvert mes bras. Ce matin j’ai consolé mon cœur. #WhatWillTheNeighboursSay #GirlsAloud Opening with #TheShow was always a good move; if it weren’t enough that the title welcomes you into the album, the music sounds so fresh, even by today’s standards. #LoveMachine, rightly one of their signature songs. I’ve never known another group to have such random lyrics as “let’s go Eskimo” and that’s why I love these girls. For some folks, it’s the original or nothing but I didn’t grow up with the original so GA’s version of #IllStandByYou is the one which made me fall in love with the song. The music video is still one of my favourite from the girls; I don’t know what it is but it just captures the strength and loyalty they’re singing about. #Jump, another iconic cover. How can it not have you dancing on the sofa like an idiot and screaming at the top of your lungs? #WakeMeUp is an underrated gem in their career. The problem with having as many hits as they did is that some will fall under the radar but it’s a totally different sound for them and it’s one which works for the girls (especially Nadine, Sarah and Nicola). I love the smooth opening to #DeadlinesAndDiets. It has a relatable sound as well as lyrical content, even for someone who doesn’t obsess over that stuff. It’s not my favourite of the album tracks but it feels like an honest look at life back in the day and has that gorgeous Sunday morning kind of feel about it. I always forget the melody to #BigBrother but it has a great chorus. #HearMeOut doesn’t interest me. I know this is the one Sarah wrote and the lyrics read fine on paper but the girls just aren’t selling it to me. #GraffitiMySoul never used to be a great song to me because of how zany and fast-paced it was but it’s easily the greatest non-single here. Of every album track, this had the most potential to be a single. I remember when it came out in the 90s and waiting with my cassette recorder for it to come on the radio so I could listen to it over and over. At the time I loved the lyrics, and I wished someone would sing them to me. I spent a lot of time alone in school and my early teen years, living in a tiny apartment alone, with only my kitties. I would be lost without them! Thankfully now I have my amazing Mike, who would definitely sing this to me (if I made him 😂).
