Hoy 26 de Abril se celebra el día de la mujer Autista. Ser mujer es difícil en esta sociedad, ser autista es doblemente difícil pero ser mujer y autista es decir muchísimo. Es difícil tener que lidiar con los comentarios típicos "Ah pero no pareces autista" o el "Ah pero no es para tanto, todos tenemos un poco de autismo", sin saber que si es para tanto, donde el autismo no me define quizás, pero, si define gran parte de todo lo que soy, de cómo actúo, donde muchas veces para tranquilidad de los demás debo doblegar quien soy para parecer una neurotípica, porque a la sociedad le hace ruido que sea yo, le hace ruido que me cueste esperar turnos, le hace ruido que sea franca al decir las cosas, le hace ruido mis esterotipias cuando trato de regular mi entorno tan abrumador, ya sea social o sensorialmente, les hace ruido que no los mire a los ojos, les hacia ruido cuando tenía que comunicarme de una manera alternativa, les hace ruido inclusive hasta mis talentos, en fin, todo les hace ruido, que buscan hacerme saber que están de mi lado, pero diciéndome cosas como que soy más fuerte que eso, o que puedo con todo, o que no le de importancia o lo que ya mencioné, "a todos nos pasa" y no, no, a todos no nos pasa, y no, no todos tenemos "un poco de autismo", como humanos podemos tener similitudes, pero tener moderadas necesidades de apoyo, a pesar de no verme autista o tener una extrema inteligencia, no lo puedes entender si no lo vives desde dentro. Yo escribo para ayudarme principalmente a mi misma a autoentenderme y en segundo lugar, puede que ayuda a alguna madre a entender a sus hijos, o a algún autista a entenderse a sí mismo, o simplemente a una sociedad a tratar de ser más empatica y respetar las vivencias de cada persona sin restarle importancia a su sentir y su vivir. No busco compasión, ni mucho menos llamar la atención, simplemente busco educar desde lo más sagrado que es mi existencia y de que a través de eso, se llegue al respeto de la diversidad. No pretendo seguir tratando de encajar en una sociedad que no valora mis esfuerzos, en una sociedad que anula mi sentir, soy una mujer autista, pero nada me hace menos valiosa

PDA has been talked about A LOT on social media, often without nuance or accurate information. As it was new to me, I took a lot of time to really learn about it before I posted. And even then, I thought this would be best if collaborated with a PDAer so I’m so thankful for @rabbishoshana for writing this post! What I’d like people to takeaway from this post: PDAers often fawn at school and then let it out at home. It’s not always explosive behaviors (but it can be!). And this is a nervous system response - NOT something a person chooses or does to manipulate others. PDA is not the synonymous with demand avoidance, which happens for everyone for various reasons. PDA is a complex neurotype. When we support PDAers, we want to support the underlying nervous system disability first and foremost. This usually looks like lowering or dropping demands that put a PDAer into threat and offering as much social equality and autonomy as possible. These accommodations look pretty radical from the outside, but they help PDAers of stay out threat response so they can meet their basic needs, learn, grow, and even thrive. This week summed up for Leo 🤍 Lots of outdoor time and lots of sensory/emotional regulation breaks needed. Thankfully, the weather has been much better this week, which has meant that while I've been getting well at home, Leo has been able to get outside with his Daddy & little brother 🌳🚲👏🏻 Both the boys would spend 24/7 outside, which is great because it does wonders for Leo. When he's been at home, he's spent the majority of the time stimming, either quiet/having a meltdown or drinking milk with his blanket (his go-to). Sometimes the only way we learn about such cases is because there’s someone who cares enough. What is Ohio doing to prevent further cases of children being adopted, abused, and tortured to death by the adults who adopt them? Since there is no formal research on this, it is hard to say how many children have been killed in their adoptive placements. However, it seems there have been a number of these cases in Ohio. I cannot imagine the pain of losing one’s child in such a horrific way after making an adoption plan, with the promise of giving the child a better life. To put one’s trust in a system, an agency, an adoption worker or attorney, who makes this promise to them. #childabusepreventionmonth

As a counsellor, I organised Autism Awareness Assembly in NGFS,Alaknanda and was an essential part of it too. I felt very overwhelmed with the responses that I got after the performances by principal ma’am, teachers and students. Everybody appreciated it and felt that there is very less awareness about it and we should raise awareness and create an inclusive environment for these kids. Students enthusiastically participated and demonstrated all the required emotions for both skit and dance. I am very glad that Schools have started talking about it. The change is slow and steady but very essential and beautiful ❤️❤️ Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD is a neuro-developmental disorder that leads to communication, social and behavioural challenges. To create awareness, acceptance and appropriate supports for children with ASD every year 2nd April is celebrated as World Autism Awareness Day and month of April starting from 2nd till 30th is observed as World Autism Awareness Month. In the skit, a school setup was seen where a child played the role of autistic child and showcased his problems in the class. The skit also depicted how teachers and students helped the child who faced difficult situations in different areas of the class. The dance was based on the song Anthem of Autism which is directed by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment- Government of India. It depicted the emotions of a child who has autism. The dance also gave the message that more than a disability Autism is about having a pure heart and being very sensitive. It is about finding a way to survive in an overwhelming and confusing world. Growing up with undiagnosed autism was hard. I knew I was different. I never fit in with the others. Things that seemed easy for others were hard for me. Every day was a challenge & I was always unprepared. I struggled to make friends & rarely maintained friendships I did make. I could never grasp social ques or standards. I was irritable, emotional & overwhelmed. I was labeled as a difficult, defiant child. I was told to try harder when I was already trying as hard as I could. I was told to behave when I behaved the only way I knew how. I was constantly being reminded that I was not the same as my peers. I was bullied. I came home crying because no one wanted to be my friend. Teachers belittled me, adults scolded me & peers isolated me. So, I belittled myself, I scolded myself, & I isolated myself. I began to believe that I was broken, that I didn’t deserve to be loved, & that I was the problem. I allowed the ghostly version of myself that others created to haunt me for the first 25 years of my life. I became a timid, meek shell of the person I was created to be. After a complete emotional breakdown in my mid-20s, I decided to set myself free of the weight I was carrying. This is when I began to suspect that I was autistic. I allowed myself to heal, gave myself grace, forgave those who hurt me & forgave myself. MY STORY is why autism acceptance is so important. Late diagnosed autistics grow up hating themselves because there is little understanding of autism. We & others are aware that we are different. It is not enough to just be aware of someone’s differences, we need others to accept that we are different & understand why to create a safer environment for autistic children and adults. I am not blaming those around me for growing up undiagnosed. Just like myself, they were unequipped with the knowledge needed to make me feel accepted. If you are a parent who wants their child to have a neurodiversity-affirming IEP, these are some of the goals to get rid of. I see them on about every IEP. I also see them in many "treatment plans" from home-based providers. . What is or is not appropriate for your child is highly individual. It depends on who your child is and what is important for them at this time in development. It also depends on your parenting values and what you as a parent want to prioritize. . The bottom line is, any therapy goal needs to work for your child. It needs to consider your child's skills and the skills that are important for your child to learn. It needs to be realistic. It needs to be child-centered, i.e. it needs to serve the child. It should not be aimed at making the child more convenient or "palatable" to adults around them.
