Have you noticed any of these in your child recently?👆🏽 If so, don’t worry! Early intervention is all about giving your child the extra support they need to thrive. It’s like giving them a little boost to help them reach their full potential! Here’s the good news: There’s no single “right time” for early intervention. The most important thing is to SPOT THE SIGNS EARLY AND SEEK HELP! ❗️ Remember, early intervention is all about progress, not perfection! It’s never too early or late to ask for help! . . . . . . . . #thebrainhousecompany #specialeducation #specialed #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparenting #specialneedskids #adhdawareness #adhdkids #specialneedsfamily #autismawareness #autismmom #autismfamily #cerebralpalsyawareness #autismmonth #autismparenting #autismspeaks #autismspectrum #autismsupport #speechdisorders #learningdisabilities #learningdifficulties #learningdisorders #specialkids

It’s a sweet thing to share a friendship with someone who’s world intersects with your own in a variety of ways. @janelleandcoffee and I share photography, art, parenting the little years and our Christian faith in common. There is never a lull in the conversation! Not to mention, Janelle’s epic sense of style and self expression is silently spurring me on to shake off the cobwebs and pack away the mom jeans. I just wanted to pause on these sweet moments of Janelle and adorable Eli. Being born with special needs, this awesome little dude has needed a high degree of care from the very start. That didn’t leave a lot of room for peaceful newborn mom-and-babe photo moments, so we wanted to pause and capture their connection. I’ve loved watching from the sidelines as this sweet boy defies the odds by the grace of God, makes us all laugh (especially the grumpy lower lip!), and to see his mom advocate boldly for him and for families in the special needs community. #familyphotographydubai #familyshootdubai #motherhood #motherandchild #stylishmama #specialneeds #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsdubai

Concluding our throwback episodes by celebrating ‘World Autism’ month (April). Click below 🙏🫶 https://open.spotify.com/episode/0gATc0kmbbUZah8Vw6Karz?si=P0VlkRLgSl6eddBwEjX26A Today we talk to Mike, an old friend and Dad of 2 kids, both diagnosed with Autism. We dive in to the science and myths around this condition that affects 1% of children worldwide. The daily challenges in caring for them, the silver linings in being a positive parent and what the future holds for this dedicated father. Mike admits he has learnt infinite amounts from the eyes of his children and how they have changed his outlook on life for the better. Compassion, empathy and understanding are what we need to see how amazing these kids are. If we take time to really understand these special needs, then Mike reminds us that “the simplest things in life can be the most beautiful”.

Don't cry for me, mom, I'm here. I may. not share my words out loud by share my heart every minute. Don't cry for me, mom, I might be different from other kids, but you shown me how different is beautiful. Don't cry for me, mom, I'm stronger than you think, I face the world daily knowing you're behind me. Don't cry for me, mom, I may not have a lot of friends, but those who know me love me completely. These boys were in Salt Lake today for a couple of appointments. As of last week Owen is officially off his steroid and today his rheumatologist said he’s looking great. They did a blood draw (which took three tries and a couple of blown veins 😭) and will keep a close watch on those numbers for the next 6-12 months. We have noticed some AT symptoms coming back in full force without the steroid. His shakes and slurred speech are very present, but still - he’s just so dang happy. It’s hard to believe how sick he was last year at this time. We’re counting our blessings and are forever thankful for modern medicine that truly turned Owen’s life around. We still face the struggles that AT throws at us on a daily basis, but to have the autoimmune disease under control has been an answer to many prayers. #eosinophilicfascitiis #ataxiatelangiectasia #rarewarrior #specialneedsfamily #autoimmunedisease

⭐️ The Impact of Domestic Abuse on Children: • Younger children find it difficult to sleep, have temper tantrums, have anxiety issues and may suffer from separation anxiety when it comes to the abused parent. • Infants who are exposed to domestic abuse are more likely to have developmental issises and suffer from emotional stress. They can seldom have issues with toilet training. • Children of any age can develop PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) as a result of the abuse they’ve witnessed or been subjected to. It can affect their performance at school. • Older boys often lash out and act aggressively. They can mimic the behavior they’ve learned, and believe it’s the way to resolve problems. • Teenagers can be increasingly disobedient and start experimenting with drugs and alcohol. ⭐️ HOW TO GET HELP? Have someone that can listen to you and care for you and your child. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. This cutie and her sass are something else. This picture was from 2 weeks ago when she was throwing some sass at her not only mom and dad but her teacher too. Good thing we all secretly find it amazing! Since Emma wasn’t “suppose” to show any emotion let alone sassiness 😝. In this moment she was caught in all her sass. Dad asked if she loved him and she replied no with her eye gaze, then asked about mom and Red she replied with her eye gaze no to us too. But then he said so do you love your sister and she replied yes with this little smirk. She knows exactly what she’s doing little stinker! . Since this moment 2 weeks ago Emma was diagnosed with a UTI and was showing that it was taking a toll on her body. She started to throw up again, very very sleepy and seizures that we haven’t seen in awhile. Got her on antibiotics again finally on Saturday and things are looking up. Started on pedialyte again and hoping to move to 50/50 with formula tomorrow. Praying we can get through this and get back to increasing formula to get this picc line out! I want my sassy girl back! . #Embracelifeemma #lissencephaly #epilepsy #smoothisbeautiful #smoothbrain #nevergiveup #blessed #neversaynever #cbdoil #qualityoflifematters #rare #cannabismedicine #bestrong #bebrave #beyou #inspire #creatememories #cvi #cp #gtube #awarenessiskey #specialneedssiblings #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsvlogger #specialneedsvlog #vlogger #blogger #PAFAH1B1 #17p13.3 #vesicostomy

Posted @withregram • @benola_cpi What Is Cerebral Palsy? Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disorder that affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills (the ability to move in a coordinated and purposeful way). CP usually is caused by brain damage that happens before or during a baby's birth, or during the first 3 to 5 years of a child's life. This brain damage also can lead to other health issues, including vision, hearing, and speech problems; and learning disabilities. There is no cure for CP, but treatment, therapy, special equipment, and, in some cases, surgery can help kids who are living with the condition. Cerebral palsy is one of the most common congenital (existing at or before birth) disorders of childhood. About 500,000 children in the United States have the condition. The three types of CP are: spastic cerebral palsy — causes stiffness and movement difficulties dyskinetic (athetoid) cerebral palsy — leads to involuntary and uncontrolled movements ataxic cerebral palsy — causes a problem with balance and depth perception Because cerebral palsy affects muscle control and coordination, even simple movements — like standing still — are difficult. Other functions that also involve motor skills and muscles — such as breathing, bladder and bowel control, eating, and talking — also may be affected when a child has CP. Cerebral palsy does not get worse over time. Life has been lifing lately. Sebs is growing right before my eyes. We had 4 weeks off of therapies and today we started back up. Today was speech and his therapist was amazed at how much has changed in these 4 weeks and he didn’t regress. She was also proud that he’s now putting 3 words together. Sebs is in a stage where he’s talking a lot but most of it is jargon until you directly ask him something he will respond accordingly. He pretend plays now and it’s so crazy to hear him. I remember when he was a baby, I wished and hoped to hear him play by himself or even with his brother. Guys! Never lose hope I know that there are moments that we just think are we gonna see the light at the end of the tunnel but it doesn’t matter how long, it’ll happen. Stay consistent. Be there. Be present. Make sure to find the right team for your child because that’s how they will thrive. ADVOCATE. We went through 3 therapist until we got our golden Ms. Kristina. She has helped me as a parent & Sebastian to thrive. It’s not just therapies, it’s the consistency outside of therapy—using verbal language and reminding him to stop and say things. Also, I’ve noticed Sebastian lately had been wanting to use a backpack. I wanna see it’s the pressure and weight it gives him. He’s growing 🥲 🩵🤟🏼 #oursebsjourney #intellectualdisabilities #fragilexsyndrome #autism #fragilexawareness #speechdelay #pediatricspeechtherapy #speechtherapy #therapies #therapythroughplay #specialneedsfamily #specialneedmoms

Join us for invisible: Personal stories from the front lines of disability A screening of short videos by and about people living with disability in Maine, followed by a conversation with the filmmakers. Thursday, May 2, 6:00 p.m. Picker Room, Camden Public Library 55 Main Street Camden (fully accessible facility) Free and open to the public. Please register at: https://communityconnectme.org/events-and-workshops. This ongoing, multi-year project was developed, with grant funding from the Maine Developmental Disabilities Council, by Community Connect Maine, a non-profit organization dedicated to the vision that all people have the support they need, when they need it, to live a full life in their communities of choice. A barrier to achieving that goal is that many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are invisible in their community. We hope to overcome that barrier by helping people in the disability community share their stories. Admission to the screening is free, but attendees are strongly encouraged to register in advance at https://communityconnectme.org/events-and-workshops. Starting our Keto Diet journey - zoom education appointment this morning with my little buddy! 💜 ~ We’ve almost started the diet multiple times during the past 16 years of treating Julia’s epilepsy - but in the past we’ve usually been in more of a crisis state with her seizures and ended up going with a med change instead. So this time we are giving it a try while we are fairly stable, in the hopes that it will help with Julia’s seizures or that we can rule it out as an option. ~ The keto diet, for mostly unknown reasons, helps control seizures - so that is our hope for Julia that we will see increased seizure control- but there is also a lot of research indicating that it can help with cognitive functioning and mood - which would also be great if that happens for her! Our other hope is that if keto helps her, we might be able to eventually come down on one or both of her current seizure meds - Julia can’t tell us how they make her feel - but kids who can talk often say they cause them to feel really sleepy and foggy. So any help the diet may bring to her is welcomed by us! ~ We have about another week or so of appointments and meetings to get everything in place to start- Julia will primarily be drinking a keto friendly shake for her nutrition and we will try to give her some keto friendly purees to supplement. All of her medicine has to be switched from liquid to pill to reduce sugars, and we have to get labs, an EKG and a renal ultrasound for baselines. We will be using finger pricks initially to test ketone and blood sugar levels. Once she is in ketosis we will give it 3-4 months to see what sort of impact it has on her - we should know by that time if it’s doing anything positive or not. I’ll be posting updates as we go - I know there are tons of families out there who have taken this journey already - we welcome ideas or lessons learned. ~ If you are open to praying for us - prayers that Julia likes one of the formula options would be my first ask - if she won’t drink the keto drink I’m not sure we will be able to do this. Thank you as always for all the love and support! Here we go! 🙏💜🙏

Does she know she has been fighting her entire life? She fought to get nourishment and to breathe. She continues to fight for comfort, fight for words, and fight for peace within her own body and mind. Does she know she was born into a world that wasn’t built for her? Does she know I will move heaven and earth to find the right tools to give her so she can walk through this world as safely and peacefully as she can? Does she know that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes? Does she know how deeply she has been loved by so many in her life? Loved by certain teachers, paras, and therapists that went above and beyond to create goals for success and strategies to work through some of her hardest days and moments Love by grandparents that have learned and do as much as they can to help her feel comfortable at home. Loved by siblings fiercely and unconditionally. They stepped up to teach, advocate for, care for, and protect her at all costs. Loved by parents that would give up everything to make sure she has what she needs on a daily basis. Parents that will care for her the rest of their days. Parents that will try to have the best possible plan in place for her once they are no longer able to care for her. Parents that are so proud of the warrior she is because she works hard every single day on things others don’t even have to think about. Does she know I will continue to stand right beside her in this fight? I will advocate as hard as I can. I will advocate for her to be seen, advocate for her to be heard, advocate for assistance, advocate for her health, advocate for her dignity, and advocate for her safety. Does she know? Have I done enough? Have I done too much? Does she feel safe? Does she feel loved? Does she know she has been fighting her entire life? #fcvblogsquad #autism #autismfamily #asdmom #autismparents #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismmom #autismlove #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryprocessing #sensory #sensoryfriendly #sensorylearning #specialneeds #specialneedsmom #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsparenting #specialeducation #specialeducationclassroom

When it comes to our kids with Special Educational Needs, early intervention is KEY! Early intervention is like planting seeds for a flourishing garden. It's about identifying and addressing potential challenges early on to ensure your child receives the right support to reach their full learning potential. How can you ensure your child gets the best out of this? ⏰ Timing is Key: Early intervention during their formative years can significantly impact their development and future success in school and life. 🤝 Team Effort: It's not a journey you have to navigate alone! Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and specialists to create a tailored support plan for your child. 👂 Listen & Observe: Pay attention to your child's cues and behaviours. Trust your instincts, and don't hesitate to seek professional guidance if you have concerns about your child's development. 💡 Empowerment Through Knowledge: Educate yourself about SEN and available resources (visit our page for quality info on SEN). Knowledge is empowering and can help you advocate effectively for your child's needs. 🚀 Every Child is Unique: Remember, every child is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Celebrate your child's strengths and accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. 💖 You're Not Alone: Parenting a child with SEN can be challenging, but remember, you're not alone. We are here to help you understand and lighten your journey. Together, we can rewrite the narrative, turning every challenge into an opportunity and every milestone into a victory. 💪 . . . . . . . . #thebrainhousecompany #earlyintervention #speechtherapy #specialneeds #specialneedsmom #specialneedskids #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsparenting #specialeducationalneeds #speechandlanguagetherapy #speechlanguagetherapy
