Caramel Earl Grey Custard Pie 🥧 🫖 STORY TIME: My dear friend @flour.clay visited me in Montreal earlier this month. This was my first opportunity to FINALLY make her a pie and impress her the way she impresses me with her holiday cookie boxes. Little did I know the pie crust gods had other plans 🙃 Only twice in my 3 years of pie making did my filling leak out from a hole in my pie crust: once on January 23rd 2021 (the second pie I ever made), and once on April 6th 2024 (the night I was having Tracy and her partner over for dinner 🤡🫠🫥) You can imagine the horror I felt moment I realized what had happened. Thankfully there was a section of the pie that was less affected than the rest… and the custard was actually super delicious so it wasn’t THAT bad… but still. Day or night? This PIEnimation focused on the solar confusion the animals faced as they wondered whether they should be awake or asleep in the middle of the day. 🤩😴 🥧🎨 I created 2 different pie crust backgrounds to achieve the daylight and the total eclipse darkness looks. However, I did not want to make 2 different caves and trees for each background piece for two reasons. 1. That’s a lot more work 👎😅 2. My main reason: there’s no way it would look exactly the same. 🖼️❌🖼️ For the stop motion to look as smooth as possible, I need all things to stay the same except for the pieces that I want to move. So, I made a separate piece with the foreground, the cave, and the tree that I could easily switch between the 2 background pieces. Later, I’ll post a BTS video of me moving the pieces so you can see it in action. 🙌 ☀️🌓🌑 For now, if you swipe to the end of this carousel, you can get a look at all the rabbits, birds, some of the bats, and the sun eclipse pieces I made to get the movement I wanted on the pie. April!!!!! The month of blooming flowers, warmer days and PIE! The #pieofthemonth is 🥁 ILA LA ROSE PIE named after Davey’s grandmother. It is a Raspberry Rose chiffon pie with cardamom whipped cream! We first make homemade raspberry jam, like @davey_wolfgang ‘s grandmother use to make him every year; keeping the tradition alive! We then make a raspberry rose chiffon with homemade rose simple syrup we make in house from the rose buds @mountainroseherbs Their stuff is absolutely amazing! We then top the entire thing off with freshly whipped cream with fresh cracked cardamom! Yum! 🤤 Congratulations to @jill for guessing it and winning a free pie! 🥧🎉 🌷First Clue: -The picture was that of rose buds. -In the description “another collaboration, this time with a lovely herb of the Mountain.” -Is referring to @mountainroseherbs of course. AND “named after one of the people who created a loving space growing up.” -refers to Davey’s grandmother that was talked about in a previous post. 🌷Second clue: “The Pie King” -was none other than Monroe Boston Strause, a tireless pie inventor who claims to have invented chiffon pie back in the 1920s! (I want that job!) 🌷Third clue: - the link is of Ila Butterfield Obituary; Davey’s grandmother that he loved dearly.
