Goldcrest, Regulus regulus . Ireland's smallest bird (approximately 9cm in length) - found throughout the island but often elusive due to its size and ability to navigate branches swiftly. . Males, when seen, are very obvious. They have a "gold" strip right down the middle of their heads bordered on either side by black lines, the rest of the head is a grey/green colour with no further markings. The body to the tail is olive green apart from a white wingbar. Females look similar to males, apart from the lack of an orange tinge to the head strip. Juveniles have a plain grey head. . They feed on macroinvertebrates found in their habitat. . They will also breed almost anywhere, and is one of the few species that will use conifer plantations. . Beaghmore stone circles - With tonight’s return of the great northern lights what better place to view them than this isolated Neolithic site. Nearby is the beaghmore solar walk. The area makes for a great natural observatory of the night sky & all the stars in it. She smiled at me at the train station, I smiled back and we engaged in glib, ‘it’s cold’ conversation. Her accent wasn’t local and being intrigued and a nosey bastard I asked where she was from. Somewhere in the Midwest, she knew Dylan in his youth and described him as eccentric but a genius. “What brings you to the centre of the universe?” She tells a tale of a local man and does a brilliant accent and they married. “You’re married.” I affect a breaking sound and tell her it’s my heart breaking. She laughs but he isn’t well. She is slightly manic and stressed. I know the pressure and stresses associated with end of life care. I tell her to look after herself that the smart thing in life is to know when you’ve been hit and when to take a standing count. She tells me her name, very similar to that of someone who once broke my heart leaving me broken and seeking distance from this life. Someone saved my life once and they didn’t even know they’d done so, exactly the right word at the right time. The conversation moves on,she has black belts in two Marshall Arts and fostered kids. We exchange emails and I send her what I hope is a positive message. This was a beautiful view.. 😍 but the drive up to it wasn’t easy. 🙈 Following the signs to Barley lake, I ploughed on up the road which turned into more of a dirt track and with not much opportunity to turn as it was narrow and needless to say, while I was taking these & was Googling to see where we where, my car tyres sank into the mud & would not budge! 😬 If I was back here I’d definitely do the hike on foot because the views are amazing but if like me you don’t enjoy first gear roads & really sharp corner bends going uphill, then leave the car and walk instead! 😂

Just watched In the Land of Saints & Sinners. An Excellent film which is more than just a typical Liam Neeson action movie but also adds the beautiful and magnificent Irish scenery. Great acting and great story. I also recognised some places in Glencolmcille where it was filmed. A great change from all the Hollywood stuff you see all the time.
