Scandaleusement Vôtre, Thea Sharrock, 13/03/2024. (1h40) Après avoir enchaîné plusieurs films aux thématiques sérieuses, quoi de mieux qu’une comédie britannique pour décompresser ? Étonnamment inspiré de faits réels s’étant déroulés dans les années 20 au Royaume-Uni, il est temps de découvrir ce que vaut ce long-métrage à l'accent british ! En 1920 à Littlehampton, Edith Swan commence à recevoir des lettres anonymes truffées d’injures. Rose Gooding, sa voisine irlandaise à l’esprit libre et au langage fleuri, est la coupable idéale. Très vite, toute la petite ville s’intéresse à cette affaire, tandis que l’officière de police Glady Mosse et les femmes de la ville mènent l’enquête… Comme présenté sur l’affiche du film, le gros point fort du projet va clairement être son duo d’actrices : Olivia Coleman notamment, en vieille fille prostrée dans une vie pieuse, bien soutenue par une Jessie Buckley rustre et grossière, à la limite du cabotinage. Cette comédie à l’ancienne reprend la recette britannique qui consiste à mêler l’humour à des sujets sociétaux, ici pêle-mêle : le racisme, la misogynie, le patriarcat et l’autoritarisme. Bien qu’assez simpliste, on prend plaisir devant cette comédie aux clichés assumés qui s'apparente à un scénario de BD dans le cheminement de l'enquête menée par l'officière et ses drôles de dames ! Bien entendu, l'ensemble reste plutôt standardisé dans sa production et ne brille pas par sa mise en scène. Si la séance est agréable, le tout reste assez oubliable. On peut également déplorer certains choix qui positionnent le récit à la limite de l’anachronisme tant il essaie de relier son discours féministe à notre époque. Enfin, la plus grande limite reste le manque de cruauté du propos qui aurait dû permettre un discours bien plus âpre à l’aune du coupable du film, tout en conservant son humour (toutefois davantage transgressif). En bref, je ne peux que conseiller «Scandaleusement Vôtre» pour une sortie familiale agréable (en VO cependant afin de profiter des accents so british!). Toutefois, la démarche de Thea Sharrock reste sur le fond plutôt chaste et ne marquera pas longtemps vos esprits. * La note : ⭐⭐⭐ - 3/5 (Sympathique)

“Wicked Little Letters” (2023) is a mystery comedy directed by Thea Sharrock starring Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Anjana Vasan and Timothy Spall. A film I was actually looking forward to after watching the trailers, and although it wasn’t bad - the trailers were funnier. The humour relies on the constant cussing from Buckley’s character and the shocking content of the letters she was supposedly sending to Colman’s character - but it gets quite old and tiresome after a while if i’m honest. Buckley & Colman both gave fantastic performances and showed some great on screen chemistry together. The film was also rounded out by a strong supporting cast whom all gave solid performances too. The film did drag at times i felt, it certainly felt longer than it was at certain points and as i mentioned, the constant swearing and humour got very old after a while and just wanted more from it. The script is very well written and the narrative itself is very interesting and intriguing, i just wish it was executed a little better. Overall, this was a pretty fun movie - with the swearing and humour toned down a bit, it could’ve been a lot better however. 🇬🇧🇺🇸📺 - 王冠 (共六季) 👑 The Crown (6 Seasons) ———————————————————— 像 shepherd’s pie 一樣: 外表看起來無堅不摧 但實際上一失去容器 底部的碎肉和上面的馬鈴薯泥 就會像土石流一般分崩離析 ———————————————————— 雖然這部影集一開播就很受歡迎，但我對英國皇室沒有太熱衷，所以是在 2020 年因為疫情關在家，為了打發時間才開始追的。 從 2016 年 11月的第一季首播，到 2023 年 12 月第六季的結束，以伊莉莎白二世為主角，導演跟編劇讓觀眾見證了英國史上在位時間最長（ 70 年）的君主，以及部分皇室家族的故事。 英國八卦雜誌下手之狠，這個在之前的 “Beckham” 紀錄片就見識到了。加上皇室成員都跟明星沒兩樣，就算不特別追他們的新聞，也都多少有所耳聞他們的那些愛恨情仇，尤其是比較近代的皇室成員。剛開始看的時候，對前三季的內容感到很新鮮。第四季開始，因為黛安娜生前一直是媒體追逐的焦點，所以她的語調、神情，舉動，甚至衣著，都是那麼地熟悉，以至在影集裡看到演員們的呈現時，則是有種喚醒在記憶深處，自己都不知道存在的畫面， 心中浮上一股淡淡的惆悵。 來到最後一季的 The Crown, 第一集開頭不到三分鐘就讓人心都沉到胃裡去了。雖然知道是木已成舟的事實，但還是很不想面對這個悲劇在眼前重新展開。黛安娜王妃的車禍，當年在所有人心裡，都劃下了深深的一刀。如今以戲劇的方式在眼前重現，還是讓人看了很揪心。 這部影集大部分劇情都是忠於歷史，但當然有些地方稍作了調整，或是用戲劇化的方式呈現，大家有興趣可以去網上爬文，這篇就稍微記錄一下我的一些雜觀。 所有出場人物裡面，我最喜歡的，是以敢愛敢恨敢闖禍的個性、有著大膽作風、過著奢華糜爛的生活、永遠是姊姊的 best friend、年輕時比明星還美麗的 Princess Margaret (pic 9). 印象最深的一幕，就是第四季第三集的最後一分鐘：身穿婚紗的黛安娜，背對著鏡頭，緩緩地往漆黑的宮廷深處走去，那一幕真的是雞皮疙瘩全都起來了。雖然地上的紅色地毯是象徵她的婚禮，但整個氛圍卻如同喪禮進行一般，因為觀眾都熟知，她走向的，是什麼樣的未來。 雖然我對凱特王妃的印象一直都非常好，但她絕非出身平民。而可以吸引到威廉王子的視線，她母親和她自己本身肯定是下了多年苦功才得來今天這個結果的。那場 fashion show 的吸睛演出，是我未曾聽說的一段，看到的時候非常驚訝，甚至心裡對凱特有一點點的扣分？！話說凱特本人太美太有氣質，找來的這位年輕演員模仿不來，反而某些角度跟表情讓我覺得她像 Katie Holmes. 查爾斯和卡蜜拉，雖然在某方面能同情他們，但真的無法喜歡他們，尤其是查爾斯，我真的一句好話都說不出來。而女王在他們婚禮上的致詞，經過一番內心掙扎後，在最後一刻做了修改，致詞時大家臉上微妙的表情，非常有趣。這段除了婚禮以外，都只是導演跟編劇的想像，但在幾個歐洲國家紛紛傳出讓位的消息的當時，想必這個念頭也曾出現在女王心中。這個揣摩雖然不真實，但讓故事更加有趣，也讓女王流露難得一見的人性，我還滿喜歡的。 伊莉莎白二世與生俱來的個性特質，絕對是她成為一個受人景仰和敬愛的國家元首的主要原因。雖然很多時候做出的決定看似不近人情，甚至犧牲身邊人的幸福快樂，但這也是源於她對皇室存在的意義有著堅定不移、永不動搖的信念，而她也用她的一生確保皇室傳統的延續，同時也維持皇室和人民的關聯性。可以說，如果沒有她作為容器來穩固整個家族，英國皇室就會像一盤散掉的 shepherd’s pie 一樣，被當做過去的輝煌，永遠留在歷史書裡，沒有未來可言。 ———————————————————— . . . . . #英劇推薦 #美劇推薦 #王冠 #thecrown #ClaireFoy #MattSmith #VanessaKirby #EileenAtkins #VictoriaHamilton #OliviaColman #TobiasMenzies #HelenaBonhamCarter #BenDaniels #JasonWatkins #MarionBailey #Imelda lStaunton #JonathanPryce #LesleyManville #DominicWest #ElizabethDebicki #JonnyLeeMiller #OliviaWilliams #MarciaWarren #SalimDaw #KhalidAbdalla #BertieCarvel #EdMcVey #LutherFord #MegBellamy

WNO CHORUS: I think I have seen a classic in the forming.- it’s a short film with live music, less than 30 minute long, concerning the sharing of emotion and hopefully finding love. It has no dialogue. It stars that master of subtle acting Jason Watkins, it has a wonderful score and is delicately directed. It’s a difficult concept to describe. A single bassoon player, is part of a small orchestra and simply plays one note in the repertoire. The film is essentially a build up of repetitions. I challenge anyone not to have a tear, I predict it will deservedly win many awards. The film is called ‘the One note Man’. The day I saw it, it was shown at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, I think its second only showing, there was mostly an audience of over 100 boisterous 8-10 year olds. A live orchestra was on the stage and to much joy many excited children were brought up and allowed to blow/stroke many instruments - Jason gave a running commentary, he was wonderfully funny. The children’s excitement was infectious. The film shows an orchestra playing, but the actual playing was by the live musicians in the auditorium. The effect is somehow magical. I will be surprised if at least one child is not seduced into music as a possible profession, and that is my slide into relevance to photography. I love childrens participation at any opening/exhibition I have. They should be made to work - stand next to their favourite picture, talk about their favourite picture, make a drawing of their favourite picture- which ultimately I always swap for an original signed print. The enthusiasm of the kids is wonderful. Watching “McDonald and Dodds” crime drama S3 Ep2 with Jason Watkins as Dodds and he was in a Matt Smith/Jenna Coleman Doctor Who episode called “Nightmare in Silver”. Then in the same episode Paul McGann aka Doctor 8, is a main character then Naoko Mori (Toshito Sato from Torchwood series) walks into Paul McGann’s building and says “It feels smaller on the inside” and then they go to an antique shop run by Louise Jameson aka Leela from the Tom Baker era. Plus they use the @haynes_motor_museum red room as their Formula 1 HQ. I only mention this as I’ve been there!! Nativity! (2009) Review: With Christmas right around the corner I thought it would be fun to review the most British Christmas film ever. Not only that it is also an absolutely bonkers film that I apparently like a lot more than other people do, probably just nostalgia I guess. Martin Freeman, Marc Wootton and Jason Watkins are hilarious in this, you can tell they're having a good time and just messing around, with the rest of the cast though the acting can be really stiff and awkward especially with the kids. Only about 50% of the film is actually funny with the rest just being super awkward. This film also bends the rules of reality a lot just so that the story can happen and doesn't give a good reason why this happened. An example of this is when Mr. Poppy and the kids send a video to Jennifer telling her that Mr. Maddens misses her. They haven't seen each other in 5 years so why on earth would Jennifer not be freaked out by this and why would Mr. Poppy even think she would be okay with this, why would Jennifer get back with Mr. Maddens. This brings me to my next point, we don't care about the relationship between Mr. Maddens and Jennifer. We as the audience don't care about their relationship or resonate with it because the film doesn't put in any effort to flesh it out. We don't know why they even broke up in the first place and if the film doesn't care to tell us, why should we.
