🍿Sunset Song (🇬🇧 2023) Acabo en ciclo de Terence Davies no con su última película pero sí con la última que he visto, de ahí el uso del verbo acabar. Esta quizás es la que tiene menos tintes autobiográficos de todas. Adapta una novela de 1932 sobre la forma de salir adelante con la vida de los campesinos escoceses a principio del s.XX, con protagonismo femenino. Las principales tesis sería el amor por la tierra y que todo el mundo es bueno hasta que la vida te trastorna. Típico de Davies es la bella fotografía y cuidada producción, pero la edición no es tan imaginativa como de costumbre. "Calibre" es una buena muestra de la influencia que han tenido, en el cine más actual, las historias violentas y duras, como la vida misma, de los trabajos de directores como Sam Peckinpah, John Boorman o Walter Hill. La suspicacia, la mezquindad, el desprecio y la violencia desatada como última consecuencia dentro de un ambiente tenso y amenazador, por parte de los lugareños de pueblos o parajes muy profundos, han servido como premisa a cintas imprescindibles como "Perros de paja" del maestro Peckinpah, "Deliverance" de John Boorman o "La presa" de Walter Hill. A su vez las dos primeras cintas mencionadas han calado hondo dentro del repertorio de un amplio espectro de directores, dedicados a mostrar lo más oscuro y salvaje de la naturaleza humana, con más o menos suerte. Lo intentó plasmar el director español Koldo Serra en la flojísima y prescindible "Bosque de sombras", ni la aparición estelar de Gary Oldman o Paddy Considine consiguieron salvar el frustrado a la vez que frustrante proyecto, Thomas Vintenberg, hizo lo propio, dirigiendo una angustiosa y desasosegante cinta llena de referencias "a la europea" al cine de las dos primeras leyendas antes citadas, con su magnífico film "La caza". Por último, menciono también una cinta menor narrada con grandes dosis de suspense hasta su violentísimo clímax final, la desconocida y menospreciada, "Straightheads" con Gillian Anderson y Danny Dyer como protagonistas. Pues bien, la historia de la película que nos ocupa es terrible y está llena de tensión pero con una peculiaridad, y es que en este caso en concreto, la crueldad y el menosprecio de los lugareños ante la aparición de forasteros "non gratos" por sus tierras, se verá reforzada ante la amenaza de dos figuras representadas en un par de amigos que se van de fin de semana a cazar y son los que van a propiciar y a precipitar, de forma caótica, los desagradables acontecimientos que darán pie a la cacería, por parte de la población local, en sus propias carnes. Los actores británicos Jack Lowden y Martin McCann están soberbios como los dos colegas expuestos a una situación extralimitada que les supera en todos los sentidos, al igual que Tony Curran... ⬇️⬇️

🎥 #Cinema: 🕍 #OConvento Será que A Freira de Invocação do Mal consegue uma vaga nesse convento? No filme, Grace vai até um convento em uma região afastada da Escócia após receber a notícia de que seu irmão faleceu, associado também com a morte de um padre. Nesse meio tempo percebemos que Grace tem algumas visões estranhas do passado e aos poucos vai compreendendo o que pode estar acontecendo de errado por ali. Achei o começo do filme bem promissor, mesmo sendo uma produção de baixo orçamento, com algumas cenas bem legais e todo um mistério interessante que instiga a gente a descobrir o que está acontecendo por ali, porém a revelação final é um pouco decepcionante. É algo diferente do que vimos geralmente nos outros filmes desse mesmo gênero? Sim, mas achei muito "sem pé nem cabeça" e uma viagem total, que não dá para comprar muito a ideia. Acredito que os novos filmes de terror devem de fato se arriscar e trazer coisas novas e diferentes do habitual, pois realmente fica cansativo assistir sempre as mesmas histórias e só levar sustos gratuitamente. Por esse lado o filme ganha pontos positivos, porém achei que não ficou legal o que trouxeram e bem difícil de acreditar na proposta, já que a história se encaminhava para um desfecho mais "possível", se é que podemos dizer assim. Consecration (2023) Genre : Horror Rating : 5/10 After her brother dies under mysterious circumstances, a woman travels to a monestary to figure out what actually happened The movie started off at a pretty creepy note but it couldn’t keep up the pace. The movie is just a rehash of old horror tropes with a Catholic theme. It adds nothing new to the horror genre. The voiceover is done by Jena Malone, and she can't even choose an accent! There are disturbing visions of nuns and priests jumping off cliffs to their deaths, memories of Grace's terrible childhood that may be hallucinations, and disturbing religious events that happen in the 12th century. The main plot is hard to follow, and the reveal at the end is both unbelievable and painfully obvious. This is because none of the many plot threads are ever tied together very well. Malone is not good at this, and she has never been able to find even a little bit of truth in Grace's stories. Even the minor characters don't get much of a chance to grow. Most of the movie's visuals are just as sloppy as the script that Smith and co-writer Laurie Cook wrote. It looks like they took a few scenes from that much better movie about religious fanaticism and hysteria. The film's co-cinematographers, Rob Hart and Shaun Mone, don't do much to show off the film's beautiful settings, like green hills and old buildings. Instead, they use dark, murky lighting almost everywhere. It might have been more interesting if the screenplay didn't mess up the real plot so much, and there isn't much visual difference between the different timelines, which blend together inexorably. But the movie doesn't seem to care about exploring that tension, and its confusing plot, tired visual tropes, and unsatisfying ending make it annoying as a horror movie. К сожалению «Проклятие. Посвящение» не исключение, лента выглядит очень умеренно и продвигается весь свой путь без особых потрясений для зрителя. Даже заключительный финал, подразумевающий некоторый твист, проходит ровно и обыденно. А кто смотрел старенький сериал «Сумеречная зона», эпизод под названием «Воющий человек» сразу же узнает чем вдохновлялся и что сплагиатил господин Смит. ⠀ Сюжет будет крутиться все время вокруг Грейс, ее многочисленных галлюцинаций, периодических предсказуемых скримеров и попыток нагнать саспенса. И как раз таки жуткая атмосфера не ощущается, а банальнейшие пугалки прогоняют интерес и вызывают периодическую скуку. Consecration - ★★ (2023) Directed by Christopher Smith 45/100 Even with the presence of Jena Malone, and despite the fact that this story tackles some more serious themes than one would have expected at first glance, Consecration succumbs to almost all the conventions of the horror genre, and as a result, any potential that could have been developed gets buried by the stupidity of cramming it with scares that fail to provide any substance to the matter. #Consecration Movie Review (2.25/5): Always been a huge fan of twist endings. “Consecration” is clear proof that not all of them can save a film. This faith-based Horror film definitely has its fair share of loose ends in what it's ultimately attempting to speak on. Grace travels to a convent in Scotland, following the alleged suicide of her brother. As you'd expect from a genre film featuring nuns and religious commentary, there's something conveniently evil at play. While I give “Consecration” credit for attempting something sort-of “new” with its premise, as well as not giving us some cheap CGI visual of the #Devil himself, an overload of jump-scares and poor direction hold it back from succeeding. #TheHungerGames and #TheNeonDemon alum, #JenaMalone is one of the few redeeming qualities of the film. Giving a strong enough performance, her questioning of the church and its doings are particularly convincing. Director and writer, #ChristopherSmith uses “Consecration” as a talking point on the evil brought on by humans. It's tough to avoid major spoilers but, when all is revealed, I'm not too sure what Smith's stance on true wickedness is. Is it the fault of those who lean too heavily into their faith or some biblical manifestation of our sins? His execution feels more like a gimmick to explain away the strange occurrences that happen on screen with little fluidity. However, the cinematography of Scotland and the sinister tone the film evokes is strangely enticing from the jump. Setting plays a huge role in Horror and it's a bit of a let down that Smith falters on cheap tricks to tell his story. For obvious budgetary restrictions, the weak use of CGI also does it no favors. “Consecration” isn't without a couple merits of inducing dread in its earlier moments. It's a Horror film that ultimately thinks it's smarter than it truly is. Calibre (2018) Dir. Matt Palmer Very few things in this world beat the experience of going into a film completely blind only to be utterly flabbergasted at what transpires within. "Calibre" is one of Netflix's very best originals that I hardly see anybody talk about. If there ever was an overlooked gem, this is surely it. I don't want to get into any of what the plot is about, because as I mentioned, going in blind enhances the experience. Most films that come out nowadays are very clear cut in their morality. Good guys do good things, and bad guys do bad things. Or, if the good guys do bad things, it's very obvious how the audience is supposed to feel about them. "Calibre" is a film that isn't about good guys or bad guys; rather, it is about characters, who feel like real people, making decisions and coming to terms with the consequences of those decisions. Be warned, though, as this is an exceptionally dark and stressful - but impeccably acted and directed - experience. Jack Lowden and Martin McCann are two actors who I am now going to keep an eye on, as they both give truly remarkable performances. The raw depth of their performances elevate an already thematically deep and morally complex script. The only small misstep the film makes, in my opinion, is that it goes on for one scene too long. There was a shot that struck me as being a fantastic closing frame, and then it continued on for another couple of minutes. It doesn't ruin the ending or experience at all, but I feel it could have been that much more impactful had it stopped at that shot. That's all I'm gonna say about it, because the fact that this film is so buried pains me. Definitely make some time for this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
