Today is my country dancing anniversary! One year ago today was the first time I went back to country dancing for reals after a long, long hiatus--we're talking basically seven years. I was dying a little on the inside from not having enough fun (and a bunch of other things, but we won't talk about those at present). And I had recently met someone who swore up and down that we probably had danced together years before at @infinity_event_center. But we didn't remember each other. He reminded me of what so many dancers had told me years before about how I should go check out the @westernerslc because I never had despite plenty of encouragement to do so. And once the idea was planted, I couldn't get it out of my head. So I eventually gave in. In true form, I went by myself. Needless to say, it was a blast. That's all it took, and I was hooked again! I didn't have much of a chance to go regularly again until last June. And then I actually injured myself at the Westerner in early July... But it's mostly been uphill since then. Last week, I finally got in a ski trip that wad originally planned for February, and I was greeted with a Bluebird day. While the spring conditions suffered from the low snow base, the sunshine and views more than made up for it. Here are some sights from Whistler Peak, Harmony, Symphony, and 7th Heaven. Towards the bottom of Creekside, the coverage was very thin with only one run reaching the base.

I’m so happy I got to spend time with my cousin Cindy Pete - Naziel when she was in town. Cindy is such an amazing role model for our family. She is fluent in our Wet’suwet’en language and is a traditional woman who practices our culture in many ways including making medicines from the land 🌿 She really raised the vibration at family camp by hitting us with spiritual wisdom while making us all laugh at the same time. Cindy’s mom Loretta Pete and my late mother Georgina Pete are sisters so that makes me and Cindy first cousins. Hotdogs are something I have been thinking about. A lot of my obsessions have been fueled by my fear and biases (self-taught and culturally absorbed). As a kid I knew I was gay very young, but denied myself this reality, and then avoided lots of things, including hotdogs with this magical idea that not thinking about or doing certain things would change my identity. Sounds wild, but I think a lot of people without OCD believe that by thinking something their “true inner identity” is revealed or can be changed.
