Felix has been having a pretty tough time adjusting to having a sibling who consumes the majority of his parents time and attention - so when I heard about this mommy son messy madness event I jumped at the opportunity to spend a little one on one time with my favorite little guy. As someone who can't stand being dirty or sweaty I knew this would be pretty far outside of my comfort zone.. but if we aren't willing to push our limits for our kids then what kinda parents are we 🤪 It was a hot and sweaty 90 or so minutes getting paint squirted at me, ketchup and mustard dumped on me, syrup poured on me, then crawling through mud and beans and who knows what else.. I don't think I've ever craved a shower so badly in my life as I did after that 😂 Before it was even over he was already asking if we could go to the next one (they do it every year), so despite how uncomfortable I was it was definitely a successful mommy son date 🙌🏼

I worked on lots of different projects today. After Mass, I did a quick run through the house looking for blankets and other items that could be used to stuff the new beanbag chairs. We already had the smaller polka dot one but recently purchased four more. They work best with lighter stuffed animals but blankets work, too. The bags are freeing up space in closets which is helpful. The kids are using them so it was a good purchase. James and I hung up a couple of random curtains we had tucked away. They make good temporary room dividers. We now have a dedicated music room and a library. Not very well thought out. Try reading a book while someone is playing the drums. 😵💫 The boys had server practice so we went back to church after lunch. We were gone for a couple of hours. I wandered around the Mary garden and admired some of the statues we have at St. Mary’s. I lit a few candles and prayed for some special intentions. James was pulling weeds when I got home so I quickly changed and joined him. The rest have to come out with a chainsaw that works again now that we replaced the chain. We’re so tired of fighting that front walkway. Hoping we can finally get some weed barrier and rocks down to keep it neat and clean. The front walk and the spot under the tree were a disaster. I had a roast cooking all day. I threw some potatoes in the oven and Ella cut up her watermelon. There are only a few pieces left. Ella took a small chunk of the rinds to attempt to make candy. I chopped up the rest of the remains and hope to make some watermelon jam tomorrow. It got too late for me to attempt it tonight. I baked the last of the cookie dough, enough for everyone to have two cookies each. Emma was putting one in her tummy. The lighting made her hair look so blonde! She has the craziest hair of all the girls. There has never been a more beautiful mess than that child! 🥰

It will likely be a very messy time, but it's important to give your child the opportunity to practice! It's much easier for your child to get thick and/or pureed food (like applesauce or yogurt) on their spoon than individual pieces or thin liquids!
