Fino al 28 aprile presso la galleria civica Cavour in centro a Padova vi aspetta la mostra 🎨EVASIONI🎨 a cura dell’associazione MoMArt che da più di due anni è impegnata in un progetto di corsi di pittura e scultura all’interno del carcere di Padova nella sezione di alta sicurezza. “Proprio il toccare con mano come l’Arte possa rappresentare un momento di evasione per chi ha perso la libertà ci ha spinto a creare il progetto di una mostra dedicata alle diverse forme di evasione. L’arte come evasione ma anche l’evasione come soggetto artistico. L’arte diventa soggetto unificante attraverso la proposta di una mostra in cui opere di artisti e persone in detenzione vengono esposte insieme sotto un’unico cappello comune.” Siamo felici di poter pubblicare alcune delle opere dei nostri attori detenuti, che in due occasioni, il vernissage e l’incontro col pubblico e i giornalisti, hanno potuto presenziare e raccontare la loro esperienza artistica. I used to keep my watercolors out on the kitchen table along with a water glass that I refreshed at night. Little slips of watercolor paper were cut and taped down, waiting for me in the morning. And in front of the seat to my right was a blank page for Ellie in case she wanted to join in, too. Then, while oatmeal simmered on the stove, I could spare at least 10 minutes each morning to paint. It was a way to commit to myself and my own joy. After learning to regulate my nervous system I looked around at my life and realized it was built off of survival — where was the happiness for happiness’ sake! So I created it. This how opening my creativity started – with a commitment to paint for a little bit every day. I painted splatters on the page and drew in spring flowers, wrote little postcards on the back to family and friends. They sat on the table addressed but never sent. While making art made me really happy, actually sharing it beyond my kitchen felt too scary. I held beliefs since I was a little girl that “I couldn’t draw” and “I wasn’t a *real* artist (since I focused my younger years on dancing, singing, and acting).” While I could quite literally see on paper that it wasn’t true, I still didn’t feel good enough. {cont in caption} #artoftheday #artistlife #art #creativity #momlife #momart #journeyofanartist

OREGON! I’m so pleased to share that I’ve been accepted to the Ceramics Studio Residency at Chehalem Cultural Center (@chehalemculturalcenter) in Newberg! The kids and I’ll be living back in Oregon for the whole month of June as I participate in the residency, making work about the research I started while I was pregnant with Sawyer. I’d love to connect with friends while I’m back in the area for such a long chunk, so let me know if you’ll be around!
