Got out for some waterfall chasing this week. I’ve never shot these falls, the area burned before I really got back into photography, and was closed for so many years, and when I finally made it out there it was the winter and I didn’t have my camera with me. It seems like the traditional composition may be gone forever with the bridge being broken in half these days, and what appears to have been a large rock slide, but, I think this comp I came up with still does it some justice(I hope😅)

4/18/2024, 5:50:44 AM

I’m not usually one to rush out and chase down a colorful sky. I don’t believe you need a colorful sky to create a captivating image. However, when I’m at the coast I really enjoy watching the sunset!!! I grabbed my bag and went down to one of my favorite spots in Yachats. What a spectacular show it was. - - - #northwest #pnwwonderland  #pdx  #sunsetart #oregonexplored #beachlife #pnwexplored #bestofthebeaverstate #oregon_wandering #oregoncoast #oregonsunset #oregonbeautiful #pacificnorwest  #traveloregon  #cascadiaexplored  #oregonian  #bestoforegon  #naturaloregon  #conquer.oregon  #longexposure  #pdxnow  #oregonisbeautiful  #canon_photos #canonusa #canonphotography #shotoncanon #highway101  #thatoregonlife #elementsphotomag #sunsetsarebeautiful

Bandon Beach, Oregon. We'll be heading to this location next week for several days of fun and photos. Hopefully, I'll have better luck this time with the light. . . I wanted to post this photo earlier but it took me a lot longer to identify the butterfly. . . It's always a joy to see a beautiful Trumpeter Swan. Trumpeter Swans disappeared from Oregon by the late 1800s. In 2009, a desire to restore and maintain Trumpeter Swans in Oregon began with releasing birds at Summer Lake Wildlife Area. Trumpeter Swans released in the restoration project receive green neck collars. The Trumpeter Swan is the largest waterfowl species in North America; slightly larger than a Mute Swan and considerably larger than a Tundra Swan. At up to 6 feet in length and weighing more than 25 pounds they weigh almost twice as massive as a Tundra Swan. When seen separately, it can be difficult to distinguish between adult Trumpeter and Tundra Swans. Adult Trumpeter Swans are entirely white with a black bill and black legs. The black on the large bill forms a "V" between the eyes and slopes gradually down from the forehead. Conversely, the black on the large bill of a Tundra Swans forms a rounded "U" between the eyes as the bill slopes gently away from the head. The bill is mostly black and usually has a yellow spot at the base.

Sister Adventure #4 took us on a 10 day road trip through Central Oregon and the entire coastline! Again, my husband joined us for his second road trip with us. So many beautiful waterfalls, lava fields, colors of nature you don't normally see, stunning coastline, sunrise in @craterlakenps, Haystack Rock and finished a couple days in Portland. Unfortunately, due to fire damage, we couldn't hike to all of the waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, only got to see Multnomah Falls. Beautiful state that offers so much to explore!! 📷 #changeNfocus travel tips & photography with @amybinspired 👭 @h_eckyeah #sisteradventure 📍Oregon, USA 🇺🇸

Nothing screams Pacific Northwest more than a moody, rainy day waterfall adventure. Luckily I had my @merrypeople Bobbi rain boots to keep my feet warm and dry. . . Down and Out . When the temperature dropped to 3 degrees again yesterday, I was looking for something warm to wear outside. This recent photo of a Canada Goose and its layers of feathers which conceal its insulating core came to mind. Only eider duck feathers have more insulating warmth than goose down. Down feathers grow beneath stiffer exterior feathers. Each down plume is a three-dimensional sphere consisting of a network of filaments that branch into barbs that branch into barbules. The complex structures, which are the size of dandelion blooms, trap air close to the skin, keeping waterbirds’ core temperatures toasty when the mercury plunges. It is still widely used in outerware and has become more ethically sourced as an alternative to modern synthetic materials. P.S. Cool details: might be worth the zoom to check them out.

Located near Portland, Oregon, Willamette Falls are the largest waterfall by volume in the Northwest US & the 17th widest in the world! The falls were very important to the indigenous people who first lived here for its abundance of salmon. Tribes from all over the region would meet to fish & trade. The falls were once the home to the Charcowah village of the Clowewalla band of Tumwaters. They were removed by the United States government under the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 & sent to nearby reservation lands. After colonization, the falls marked the end of the line for boat captains making their way upstream, putting Oregon City on the map for commerce in 1842. Some 30 years later, a boat lock was installed & upstream travel was achieved. In the mid- to late-1800s, paper mills & power plants were built on the falls to harness the large mass of water spilling over its rocks. The mills are all shuttered, but the relatively small power plant still supplies 16 kW to the Oregon area. You can still see some of the falls in front of the dam, but, like the salmon that used to thrive in this area, they are a fraction of what once was. #TimeTravelTuesday #WillametteFalls #OregonCity #NaturalOregon #PacificNorthwest #ScenicOregon #ExploreOregon #OregonBeauty #Waterfall #GreatOutdoorsOregon #colonization #Indigenous #salmonrun #history #LandOfTheNatives #HistoricalJourney #IndigenousPeoples #IndigenousHistory #SacredLands
