Everyone loves a good story of patience/perseverance. Close your eyes and Imagine this. You just woke up in the front seat, you have a 10 ish hour day staring you in the face. Gurgle guts decides to pay its usual early morning visit. But you aren’t quite ready to drop the kids off at the pool, the hype is palpable for the day ahead so you begin. Not even 15 minutes in to the Congo line that is the first 3 miles, your tummy demands you pay the dues. But it’s too crowded? What do you do? You anxiously and swiftly work ahead to gain enough ground but do so unsuccesssfully, 90 minutes in. You are hoping people drop off amidst the steep climb to the pass, they don’t. You’re in a full sweat, not from the activity, but from the anxiety. You make friends with a lovely older lady for the 2k foot climb that put symptoms at bay. 3.5 hours in, top of the pass and greeted with a gorgeous glacier alpine lake, symptoms remained very present, but manageable. You start ascending your peak via snowfield. The 100 foot no fall zone beneath the final scramble completely eviscerated any thought of a nature poo, as your sphincter was effectively glued shut from fear. As you crest said no fall zone beneath the 300 foot final scramble, you are graced with the some of the most elegant and fascinating cascade views youve ever seen, along with a come down in adrenaline and a stern reintroduction of the stewing 4.5 hour indigestion. You get out your bathroom kit, and took the most scenic numero dos you’ve ever experienced, followed by an enjoyable remaining scramble, a tasty grilled chicky avo wrap with spicy mayo, and a wonderful FaceTime conversation with your dad at the summit, and zero winds. “Is this euphoria?” You ask yourself. Yes. Indeed it is. Now open your eyes.
