Effects of Chios Mastiha essential oil on cholesterol levels of healthy volunteers: A prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled study. Previous in vitro and animal studies have shown that mastic (Pistacia lentiscus, L.) essential oil has hypolipidemic effects. To evaluate efficacy and safety among volunteers with increased cholesterol levels, the authors in this study decided to perform a prospective, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial. The study included 160 participants who were allocated into two groups: 113 were given 200mg of mastic oil in a soft gel capsule and 47 were given a soft gel capsule without the oil, but with the same excipients and aromatized with mastic oil. Inclusion criteria were increased total cholesterol >200 mg/dL, in adult volunteers of any gender, who were either not amenable to, or not willing to receive pharmaceutical therapy. Participants took 1 capsule per day, 30 minutes before dinner, for 8 weeks. No other substances to lower cholesterol were taken, and no dietary or exercise instructions were given during the study. The main outcome measures of interest were the changes in cholesterol (total, LDL and HDL) and in triglyceride levels. Other serum biochemical parameters such as electrolytes, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), urea, creatinine, uric acid, glucose, and C-reactive protein (CRP) were determined as a secondary endpoint. Additionally, the study monitored for any adverse events related to the administration of the capsules. The study confirmed the efficacy of mastic oil in lowering LDL-cholesterol levels by 12% after 8 weeks of supplementation, and no adverse effects were seen. This constitutes a new intervention for dyslipidemia. Let’s talk OIL brands and how to find the best brand for your family🙌🙌 When I first started getting into essential oils years ago I researched every brand I knew of to find the best one. I was worried about quality and didn’t want to go from candles and artificial fragrances into the fire of oils with fillers (kind of the frying pan, don’t you think?🤪). A lot of my friends use Young Living. I’m sure by now a lot of you have realized I don’t. HERES why I don’t use YL or Doterra⬇️⬇️ First I want to say, I don’t have anything against these brands. I have TONS of friends who use both and I love that!!! There’s room in the oily community for all of us☺️🤗. So you will never hear me bashing Young living. However, I decided NOT to use them simply because 1. I don’t like only using one brand (or feeling like i can only use one brand) 2. I researched and found that there are LOTS of clean oils on the market and started using the ones that work best for me and my pretty small budget at the time. 3. I couldn’t afford them. 🙈 For me, that’s NOW and Plant Therapy (any fans around here?🙋♀️🙌). What I love about NOW oils: 🌿they are 100% clean and pure 🌿NO fillers 🌿tell you on the bottle how the oils are extracted 🌿give purity testing and quality assurance 🌿for the more expensive oils like my absolute FAV blue tansy, they give a MUCH cheaper option where the oil is diluted 20% in jojoba carrier oil. This doesn’t reduce the potency at all of the oil but makes it much, much more affordable. 🌿I have so many family members who have serious auto-immune disorders who CANT be around fake essential oils or they will have anaphylactic reactions (or my husband gets serious migraines) and they CAN be around NOW oils. This is just another confirmation to me that they are clean and pure!! 🌿They are SAFE for babies! I put NOW oils on my daughters skin ALLL the time. She broke out one time when I used a friends Huggies wipes because her skin is that sensitive and she has NEVER broken out to NOW oils. Weer aanpassen aan een ander ritme valt niet altijd mee.
