- Oradour-sur-Glane - 🇫🇷 Oradour-sur-Glane est un village qui a été brûlé entièrement lui et ses habitants durant la seconde Guerre mondiale. Le 10 juin 1944, le monde s'est figé dans ce village, tout s'est arrêté subitement, tout est resté tel quel ou presque. Ce village aujourd'hui est "désert", "mort" ; totalement détruit. Les habitants en devant partir rapidement ont dû tout laisser derrière eux, abandonner toute leur vie ainsi que tout ce qu'ils avaient, leur maison, leur travail.. Depuis ce jour, tout est resté inerte. Seuls quelque reste comme des voitures, (rouillées par le temps et brûlées par les flammes) ou encore des vélos et autres objets témoignent du désastre et des dégâts causés ce jour. C'est en traversant les rues de ce village en ruine et calciné que nous comprenons la terreur. L'ambiance est assez particulière. En voyant tout cela, on se met en quelque sorte à la place de tous ces gens assassinés. On imagine toute cette horreur, la peur qu'ils ont dû ressentir, la tristesse, l'incompréhension du fait qu'ils aient subitement été encerclés et qu'ils n'aient pu s'enfuir. Les ruines de ce village Martyr sont aujourd'hui conservées, c'est un site commémoratif ainsi qu'un musée à ciel ouvert. Il est important de voir des sites comme celui-ci, pour se rendre compte de ce qu'il s'est passé. I haven't posted anything for a while as I haven't really done anything other than work and be ill! I'm finally on the mend, and glad to have gotten this illness out of the way before heading off! So, to prove I'm still about, here are some pics from a very harrowing place called Oradour-sur-Glane that I visited a few years ago when I drove from England to Morocco (with a couple of ferries obviously, my little campervan didn't float) Wandering around here really put things into perspective. I won't be venturing as far north as France this time around. I only have three days left of work! Not that I am counting down the days at all... On Monday I am meeting a mate who is going to help me make some professional standard video that I can use to promote my journey and fundraiser. I am literally leaving the country in a week and a half! It has come around so quickly! I have not had anywhere near enough training, but I will be fine! I will start slowly and gain fitness as I go hopefully. I am looking forward to actually posting relevant photos and videos of my journey! (I use way too many exclamation marks. On 10 June 1944 this village was destroyed when 643 civilians, including non-combatant men, women, and children, were massacred by German nazis. Men were brought into barns and sheds where they were shot in the legs and doused with gasoline before the barns were set on fire. Women and children were herded into a church that was set on fire; those who tried to escape through the windows were machine-gunned. The first part of this trip once in France, as it was so close to our route, was a quick trip in memory to 2 family members, who both died of their wounds during WW1, and although never meeting them (obviously), there is something quite emotional about seeing their final resting place, having heard a little about them from grandparents. Then, from my own personal journey, we continued through the French countryside, stopping for over nighters where we took evening walks along the Seine watch the business of freight boats and learning of the lovely surprise of freshly baked baugettes in vending machines along the way. Then, having recently read an article about a shocking WW2 incident, we decided to visit this unique place. En mémoire de l’anéantissement du village et du massacre de 643 personnes, le 10 juin 1944 par une section de la Waffen SS. 80 ans plus tard, la fondation du patrimoine a lancé une collecte pour sauver les ruines du village pour que les générations futures puissent se souvenir. Au programme : visite du village matyr d'Oradour-sur-Glane, atelier pédagogique et témoignage de Mr Hébras, Futuroscope, embarquement pour le marais poitevin et la Venise verte.
