This one goes beyond an everyday tip - it’s kind of a way of life around here at Period Positive. Period positivity doesn’t mean celebrating periods, or even having them. Here we believe that talking openly about all phases and stages of menstruation is a positive act. We also feel you don’t need to believe tacit messages around menstruation being dirty or secret, even if those messages are all around you. If you see other folks hiding menstrual products or not using the words ‘period’ or ‘menstruation’, that doesn’t mean you need to mask by taking up those behaviours or pretending you feel that way too. These attitudes became the norm because society was conditioned to look at periods as shameful, but actually, it shouldn’t be.🩸😀 It’s easier than you think to reverse these attitudes - for yourself at least. From founder @Chellaquint herself: “Do a deep dive into the history of menstrual product advertising - it’s fascinating and will help you to interpret modern media messages around periods!” 🩸 Leftovers and echoes of those old negative messages are still out there and can be found in new media as well. When you compare the old messages with the newer ones and spot the patterns in the types of language, negativity, and outdated imagery, you’ll have a lightbulb moment and realise you can reject these unnecessary period perceptions for yourself. 💡 Don’t feel you have to hide a product up your sleeve or find a euphemism for the word menstruation. If you are breaking social rules about talking about periods, keep doing it because we need more of that, not less! 🥰 We will post about this again in the future, but we hope you found the tips shared this week helpful and got to know a little more about how our team works and how our experiences translate into the Period Positive approach and the work we do. thought i’d do a fun post and share signs i had this week that told me my period was coming!🩸 this month i anticipated my period to arrive on Wednesday (she did) - and these are all just some feelings + experiences i had which told me my period was coming soon…❣️ this month was different as i was travelling/on holiday in the few days lead up to my bleed - this looked like being superrrrr active walking everywhere all day, not eating my usual homecooked meals, and just generally being out of routine. luckily my period was due the day i arrived home (thankfully she didn’t arrive on the plane😂) which meant i was able to enjoy the trip fully too, then ground and settle to welcome my period when i got home🫶🏼 (i’m convinced our periods know when to come at the best time for us🥰) anyway… all these experiences are patterns i have in the few days lead up to my period, which i’ve noticed since properly practicing cycle awareness over the past year and a bit💕 knowing the patterns of our unique experiences can help us be more compassionate with ourselves, as well as not surprise us when our period does arrive! other subtle signs i had in the lead up to my bleed were: • feeling super tired, and constantly yawning the day before🥱 • a few days before my Inner Critic was strong + i didn’t like what i saw in the mirror😪 • i got really irritated with my dad the day before (sorry dad😂) - though arguably was down to feeling hangry🫣 do you relate to these patterns? do you have other patterns of experience pre bleed?🩸 would love to hear in the comments👇🏼 • • • #periods #periodtalk #menstruation #menstruationeducation #menstrualcycle #menstrualhealth #periodpositive #womenshealth #shetheforce

I have a confession to make... I am not great at Instagram marketing. Some days, I feel like that's a badge of honor in a world of go-go-go. What do I mean by this? There is some positive movement on the femtech market - I'm not saying it's all bad - but overall, female and femme health is still taboo. Or have you tried talking to your uncle about the color of your period blood recently...?! Exactly. Now, there's a valid argument to be made about whether or not I would want to discuss such topics with a cis-man in my life... I won't rest until we live in a world where this is possible and not cringey for all those who don't have a "divine feminine circle of goddesses" in their life. I won't rest until periods are so commonplace in our conversations that we're bored not disgusted by talking about them. I won't rest until every last human alive understands how important a healthy menstrual/ovulatory cycle is to our entire life, not just our fertility. So, I am not great at Instagram marketing, because, I can never condense these important & nuanced topics down to bitesized content.
