Pink Ghost Pipes (Monotropa uniflora) 🌺💕 In honor of the Barbie movie that just came out, (that I sadly still haven't seen), I figured I should make a post about the Baby Pink and Magenta Ghost Pipes I've found over the years. 💕 Ghost Pipes are a parasitic plant, and are more specifically known as a mycoheterotroph. Instead of producing chlorophyll, it engages in a symbiotic relationship with fungi the Russula and Lactarius genera to receive nutrients. Each plant only blooms for 1 week out of the year before dying back, so it is always exciting to find them in good condition. Ghost pipes are also perennial - so you can return to a patch year after year for making tinctures. (Ghost pipe has extraordinary anti-anxiety qualities as well as being a mild sedative for physical ailments) Personally I have only found pink ghost pipes in July, and from my research I've found that the dark pink/magenta specimens are especially rare.
