Predicting the growing season is 1 part science and 3 parts sorcery. My prediction is that the seed starting time is NOW. 🍃 This is my 2023 Gantt chart, using May 14th as a last frost date. If you check the Farmer’s Almanac’s last frost date for our area, it says April 30th. This is where having your own garden journal (or consistent photos to reference) is really important! Last year, we had a fairly late frost and even had snow flakes as late as March 14th. 🍃 HOWEVER, a few years ago, I remember we had an exceptionally *windy* spring and summer came in fast and furious with a HOT June, and July and August were rainy and cold. My French-Canadian grandmother read tea leaves. She was very serious about it and even made a little money doing it. She had a sign saying, “Madam Louise is reading today” which she would put up in tea shops and even had a booth at a market in Vancouver, B.C. Her method was: drink the tea, turn the cup upside down, then twist it three times. Now the leaves were ready to be read. If the leaves didn’t tell her anything, she would just take a spoon and stir them a bit. Tasseography Over the weekend I had so much fun trying out a new form of divination called tasseography also known as reading tea leaves. You can also use this technique for coffee grounds, cacao and wine sediment. It reminded me a little bit of Nephelomancy or cloud divination because you have to identify shapes in your cup and on your saucer in the same way as looking for images in the sky. I had been following @hanleyalice online for a while since she teaches so many things that I am interested in so I was excited to finally meet her and it was way above my expectations. Such a warm lady with a magical house! I've never seen anyone in Ireland do such a cool job decorating for Halloween 🎃. What a cool setting and time of year to experiment with a new divination technique! I was seriously connecting to my inner witch! She baked us so many yummy treats and we had beautiful chats over our cups of tea in the most beautiful China. It was totally and utterly my vibe! She even had the coolest familiar called Paddy! An African Grey Parrot 🦜 who just sat behind me chilling the whole time I was there. Isn't it wonderful to find an amazing new spiritual teacher and friend near where you live! 🙈 When I first saw this book I was ecstatic. I mean: the pairing of tea and travel is well written, but the angle @lucieazm brings through the idea of errancy and migration is very insightful - and the way she writes is simple and filled with vivid images. Plus, the edition by @flammarionlivres is exquisite: the clothbound, the tipped-in image, the yellow markers that offer space to think... In one of these markers, the last one to be precise, there is a quote by Albert Camus that says (I translate from French): "Our task as humans is to find formulas that will soothe the infinite angst of the free souls." And I think that this project here finds tea and literature the most soothing. Formulas to love and think, if that makes us free is another story 🤍 ___ 🙈 Cuando vi por primera vez este libro estaba extática. Quiero decir: el maridaje de té y viaje es un maridaje ya escrito, pero la perspectiva que trae @lucieazm a través de la idea de la errancia y la migración es sumamente perspicaz - tanto como la forma sencilla de escribir, llena de vívidas imágenes. Además, la edición de @flammarionlivres es exquisita: la cubierta de tela, la imágen adherida a la portada, las portadillas amarillas de los capítulos que ofrecen un lugar para pensar... Day 31 of #julyminifun2023 with @vintagedollhouseshop is my favorite part. Creating and challenging my brain is my fave part. Looking at things in my life that bring me joy and finding a way to make it mini. My office at work is freezing all the time... So by mid morning I'm steeping a hot cup of tea. @republicoftea is my go to tea. When I realized I could fashion their tea tubs in mini I went to work. I had to create a label for the #lemonchiffon first because it's my favorite. (I'm out of it right now but can't order more until I drink through some of my others first). I keep wanting to try the #strawberryshortcake so maybe my next stock up. I've never been an iced tea girl but I keep seeing videos of iced tea latte recipes that might sway me... And blueberry anything could be a good slide for me into that world. Yep... So that's me.
