*************** Inaugural FJ40 CROSS-COUNTRY EXPEDITION Briefcase Handoff Passport to Adventure April 27, 2024 Part Four, the finally: We made it most of the way in the Cruiser but the last mile of road was overgrown so we tucked Tracks in the trees and continued on foot. About 1/4 of the way to the end I stopped and watched Gabe hike the steep 500ft elevation gain solo, while I enjoyed the scenery. At the end of the road was a mine and he found malachite, azurite, chrysocolla, peacock ore, quartz and other cool specimen in what appeared to be a prospector’s dig for silver. We made our way back out slowly after a 4 hour detour that we thought would be like maybe an hour… oh fun adventures are timeless! The lady pic shows the switch backs on the light colored mountain on the right and we travels left towards the light colored spot in the upper mountain. Fun fun fun! As we headed home we got some rain near ABQ and on home. It was a lovely adventure and we made two more friends to add to our cruiser family, @jericson and Cora, and Joel’s wife and two boyz, who were unable to attend, are also included cause if they are as cool as Cora, they are cruiser family for sure! Gabe tagged the rail with the sticker to@represent our mission! Then we found FR505, a dirt road, our kind of road so we had to explore. We saw switchbacks going up the mountain so we had to explore those of course, locked the cruiser in 4wheel and crawled up a steep, one lane, no pullouts 4X road to see what was at the end… an awesome camp site or a mine was our guess. Inaugural FJ40 CROSS-COUNTRY EXPEDITION Briefcase Handoff Passport to Adventure April 27, 2024 Part Two, the adventure continues… Joel’s 9yo daughter joined us and was a part of the handoff and pie eating! I thought this was super cool for her to experience this adventure with her dad and no brothers! Her memories of this adventure will last a lifetime! We got up the next morning after a crazy night of wind and rain/ice falling on us. We had a dusting of snow all over so the pictures of camp were lovely. We headed on to The Pie-o-need for pictures and pie! As we were sitting and enjoying the pie we were noticing all the traffic on Highway 60 with 100s of semis heading West on this little highway through this little town… i40 had been shut down at the NM-AZ boarder due to a train derailment and fire! I guess we made perfect timing heading there on Friday as neither of us experienced the traffic the day before. Yummy pie was had and we had our way home, Joel off to the West and Gabe and I off to the East. Inaugural FJ40 CROSS-COUNTRY EXPEDITION Briefcase Handoff Passport to Adventure April 27, 2024 PART 1 We are excited to be able to be a part of this hand-off… this is a hand-off of a black brief case filled with trinkets, flyers, stories, stickers and whatever else one wants to put in the case, like an acorn that was dropping on their camp during a handoff. This is between Toyota FJ40 LandCruiser owners to get our old vintage classic cruisers out on the roads to meet other 40 owners. Some, well most, will drive 100s of miles to meet up in some unique place to hand off the briefcase and share a meal. Some will hang out and camp some will quickly meet and be on their way. There is no right or wrong way to do this except for the handshake photo and a meal is a must! This is our second time to be in possession of the briefcase, last time we had it was in 2018 when we met John in Utah, hiked and camped out with him. Great memories there and we made a new friend. Then onto this trip with Joel (@jericson, @honger on IH8MUD), in his Middle East Spec restored 1977 dune beige FJ40 and Gabe (@mesaman_and _mesawoman, @mesa man on IH8MUD), in his modified 1983 jaguar green FJ40. We headed to Pie Town, NM from home and Joel headed to Pie Town from Phoenix, AZ. We met up at a campground in the village and made camp for the night. Joel cooked us up some yummy steaks and we all enjoyed a meal together then quickly headed to bed. Yippee! My vet said I don’t need my recovery collar now! He said I’m doing so well. I’m so happy… but I still have to be very calm (no jumping etc).. mummy said ‘well, that’ll be fun🙄’ I’m allowed 10 minute walks now too! It’s so exciting but I have to be a good girl as it’s still a long journey.. another 6 weeks until I have my next X-rays to check everything is in the right place! I’ve never LIVED this truth more than I am right now. - When I couldn’t find a place that made me feel safe, welcome and connected - I went on a mission to create it - One week into living in #bristolri a man walked up to me and let me know that he could tell by my colorful attire I wasn’t from here 😳 - His comments continued, he intended to make me feel unwelcome - it worked. But I knew then - the same as I know now, that he was wrong - So engaged my plan to infuse my colorful, community loving self into this new found home and I went to work cultivating a culture far different from the one i had just experienced. - I partnered with local folx like katie_c_blais - who GET IT and are willing to do the work to make a truly inclusive space happen. - What has unfolded? Local businesses jumpin in to support our eco minded efforts, the community full force with culinary delights and attendance quickly blossoming into friendships galore - Not everyone is going to like me. I get that. Im guessing - The same goes for you. I’ve come to realize sometimes I’m often yearning to sit at a table that in reality I don’t really want anything to do with - Creating and cultivating a space from scratch offers freedom and potential to breathe your desires into it. The workshop’s at @c2e2 are a big success. I won’t lie…I wasn’t sure how they would go over. The participants would come up after class, telling me, they got so much more out of the hands-on workshop than they ever did for the demonstration. MORE NEW FRIENDS. So this afternoon I met Paddy’s auntie and uncle. I took treats from them both and enjoyed head scratches ❤️❤️ I also met Milo ( mum thinks he’s a bichon?) and we got on really well. Milo wasn’t bothered about me at all so I didn’t react. Literally no issues on our walk. When the walk was over we went to paddy’s aunties house so we could all have a drink. These hills in wales are very tiring you know! 😂 I then met beautiful molly who is really quite old and a tiny Jack Russell. She is really quite frail but has the funniest personality. She kept wanting to sniff my bottom and I told her a few times not to as I didn’t like it but then she tried again and I barked at her. The feisty little lady had a go back at me and I was shocked. Everyone laughed as it was so funny that this little tiny , elderly dog had the guts to go back at me and win 😂. Paddy’s mum and dad are shocked at my progress and said I’ve come on in leaps and bounds since they saw me last.
