I enjoyed reading this book! It was just a feel good, witty, light story and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. It also held my attention and I had a hard time putting it down. Jolene is a mess. But, at least she knows it. She doesn’t know what to do about it, but she’s not in denial. She has a crappy job and lives in a crappy apartment and drinks too much. But, she’s fighting like hell to save it all. She doesn’t always make the best choices, but she owns those, too. Cliff is my favorite current imaginary human. He’s just a good guy trying to do good things. Mom and the Persian aunties are just icing on the cake. I loved to watch Jolene’s evolution. How she develops and comes to terms with her past and her life. How witty she is and how innocent she is about so many things. How she develops the relationships with those in her life. Siege and Storm: the scene where Alina’s hair turns white! The Darkling is one of my favourite villains, because you really do understand his motives, even when he does terrible things. But I was so focused on her hair (I wanted it to look sort of magically glowy) that I failed to notice what I’d done with his. He looks like a cross between Steve Harrington and Danny Zuko. Apparently the 80s are coded into my brain as the default era, and mullets sneak in unless I make an active effort to draw something (anything) else. I’m not sure why they didn’t have this scene in the show (maybe the idea of wearing a white wig from this scene forward didn’t appeal?) but I’m very glad to have been given the opportunity to draw it! April 22, 2024 Book Review: Fangirl Down By: Tessa Bailey @tessabaileyisanauthor ⛳️ Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️🫑 Oh my gosh I loved this story so much!! It’s funny because I was listening to it while the Masters was playing. So I would come home to my husband watching the Master and I had to laugh. I kept thinking I would see a “Wells’ Belle” sign on the sideline 😂 ⛳️ This is a spicy golf romance (wait, Golf Romance?! Yep!). It was a lot of fun. It also brings about the awareness of Diabetes and how expensive supplies and medicine are in real life. And the struggles some people have to go through to get needed medicine. ⛳️ Wells is a professional golfer who can’t get out of a slump. As a result, he just gives up. But Josephine is his biggest fan and she won’t let him give up. Until he pushes her away, just like everyone else in his life. But when a hurricane hits Florida, he can’t stop thinking about her. He tracks her down only to find her pro shop devastated and her flood insurance invalid because she chose medicine over insurance payments. As a result, Wells hires her as his caddy so that she can earn money for the repairs. ⛳️ I really enjoyed this book so much. I listened to the audiobook which I highly recommend. We are introduced to Josephine’s and Wells’ friends who end up being the main characters of the next book: Au Pair Affair. ⛳️ I met Tessa Bailey on tour on the day of the release of Fangirl Down. I think I’m most excited for ‘The Courting of Bristol Keats’ by Mary E. Pearson. I’ve loved all of her previous books and this is her first new release in a while. Alina and Mal get attacked by volcra, and her Sun Summoner powers finally show up! (for the Litjoy Crate Shadow and Bone box set). I got so excited about drawing Kaz with blood all down his front for Six of Crows that when it came time for Shadow and Bone, they gave me all the traumatic scenes 😂 Designing the volcra was enormously fun too. The great thing about fantastical creatures is that you have a lot of freedom to play, as long as the anatomy looks believable. If it’s a real animal you have to make it “look right,” and you’re even more constrained when it comes to people because we’re very sensitive to the human form, so any errors of proportion (unless it looks deliberately stylized) are immediately noticeable to the viewer. But nobody has seen a real volcra (thankfully!), so I was going on the text description and the instruction that they look a bit like the creature designed by Giger for the film Alien. Vertebrate skeletons are all put together the same way, from birds to whales, which gives you a framework when inventing a new creature. I decided to make them look like big ugly bats with too many teeth and a vaguely humanoid shape. A River of Golden Bones by A.K. Mulford which is the first book in the series and was in my To Bee Read box a few months ago. Do I need more romantasy in my life…nope not at all. I am super burned out on the genre. However I am really trying to commit to my book box and read the books before the next box comes. Honestly I really enjoyed this book. It did what most books take 600 pages to do in only 376 pages, which I appreciated. While I have read a weird number of Sleeping Beauty retellings this year, I really liked that for the plot of this book. Mulford made it a fun twist by giving Briar a twin named Calla who has to save her. I also enjoyed the whole wolf people thing, it added nicely to the story. Calla also explores their gender identity which I think was handled really well. Calla could be kick ass, on an adventure, but still feel unsure about who they are. My favorite part was the traveling musician friends, I think they made the book. Overall, it was good. It felt like it wrapped up really fast and action never got too detailed. There could have been more world building and more character building. Part 1: Welcome to my library, which has expanded in the last 3 years. This part of my library is in the living room. The other part is in my studio, which I’ll show you another time. I love my collection of special editions so much. My collection are mostly from: Fairyloot, Illumicrate, Goldsboro, Juniper Books, Waterstones and LitJoy. I have shelves for my favourite authors and it looks like these shelves need to expand soon, because I’m quickly running out of space. Luckily, they mostly release new books once a year, but that doesn’t really help me because I buy multiple editions of their books. I display my books showing the stencilled edges because they’re too beautiful not to display. Fairyloot, Illumicrate, LitJoy, Goldsboro and Waterstones are experts on stencilled edges and I can truly just stare at these beautiful books for a really long time. Do you display your stencilled edges? I recently bought 2 (tall) Billy Bookcases from IKEA and 2 (short) Billy Bookcases with doors. I’m proud to say I assembled them myself.
